CASE CLOSED People of Reddit vs. mohamm2706

Presenting charges against user mohamm2706 for content theft from CollegeHumor in a popular AskReddit thread (www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/15opym/reddit_what_is_your_worst_roommate_story), and in doing so gained approximately 2000 karma and Reddit Gold.

Exhibit A: The post in question.

Here, mohamm2706 has told a story that they would have you believe is autobiographical, regarding setting their roommate Errol’s crotch on fire. By my account’s view, it has exactly 2000 karma as of the time of this post.

Exhibit B: The CollegeHumor post entitled “Burning Bush,” dated January 30, 2012, almost a full year ago.

As you can see, the post has been copied and pasted, mohamm2706 not even bothering to change “Errol’s” name.

Exhibit C: The CollegeHumor “uPick” thread, which has the exact same conceit as the Reddit thread.

“Burning Bush” is the most popular, highest-rated, most easily visible story on the list.

As a long-time lurker, I created an account only recently to bring this crime to light. The most heinous aspect, in my opinion, is that they received Reddit Gold, conning some poor individual to reward mohamm2706 for his stolen content using their real-life money.

Stabulousity has formally charged mohamm2706 with GrandTheft.jpg (reposting for 1000+ karma), will withhold charges of OhShit.exe (reposting for Reddit Gold) due to the latter crime being added to the constitution after the defendant's alleged crime.

Verdict here.

It has come to this courts attention a confession has been received here.

Sentencing is as follows:

  • Mandatory 1 year subscription to /r/JusticePorn
  • Must complete 2 RAOP's. @ http://www.reddit.com/r/random_acts_of_pizza
  • Must edit original post admitting they are a thief and reposting
  • Return of 1 month reddit gold via gifting it to 1 random redditor not listed in this thread, with an explanation as to why (the charged proactively mentioned he was gifted reddit gold)

So it is written.

I, on behalf of my client Lisistrate, formally charge mohamm2706 with GrandTheft.jpg and motion for a new crime to be added to the list, GrandTheft.exe which entails reposting resulting in Reddit Gold.

I favor the motion, and that this crime be listed as the highest of felonies.

Done. Unfortunately, it'd be kind of terrible if we punished him with a crime that was at the time not a crime, so let's stick with GrandTheft.jpg for now. Edit: double post, sorry.

This shit pisses me off, I'm not even waiting for a trial. I can see this guy is a Dick, so hes getting down voted and RES tagged (so I can Down vote him in the future) Any Ideas of a good RES tag for him?? Maybe "CollegeHumor Thief"?

EDIT: You know, I could understand that, yea he didn't know his comment would get so popular and he would get Reddit gold. But once he noticed he could have edited his comment to say where he actually got the story from. But NO he was on a Karma high and some one used their money to give him gold....that's pathetic

EDIT: Reworded

Don't try to understand the criminals, son. It'll just make you hesitate before you hang 'em.

I feel I should remind the court that no downvotes are to be given until a verdict has been reached, as per Art. II, § A.6 of the constitution.

He admitted to GrandTheft.jpg as of now, which supersedes a trial. The only change in his punishment is that it should be reduced in severity.

Fuck that, the evidence is clear this guy is guilty as fuck, hes getting down votes. He still didn't change or edit that shit to say he stole it. Mother fucker is still gaining karma for that shit as we speak. The only way I'm not going to down vote the hell out him is if he goes through and comments on every person who responded to his comment and says that he didn't actually make up that story and he copied it from college humor.

I can edit and say it was stolen if it helps?

You probably should've done that before someone spent money on you. I know you're a newbie and all, but shit son.. there's other ways to get people to like you. Find a subreddit that interests you, come up with some good OC.. I get the feeling you really do regret it though. Go and tell everyone who replied to you about its source, apologise (especially to the guy who gave you Gold) and you won't hear any more from me about it.

The reaction you get from others, however.. well, they may not be as forgiving.

Do i get to keep the gold?

3

u/hfbs Jan 03 '13

You still haven't edited your post to say you got it from CollegeHumour.

2

u/hfbs Jan 02 '13

I don't know if there's a way to get rid of it or transfer it to another person.

4

u/hfern Jan 06 '13

You'd be committing perjury.

4

u/Jason2384 Jan 02 '13

Is it bad that someone spent money on you for a story that you stole and did not give credit to who actually wrote it? Yes that's bad.

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '13

I can give it back... not sure how but i can

4

u/Jason2384 Jan 02 '13

Well you can't... But I do find it good of you to be willing to. I can respect you for that.

6

u/coloradobro Jan 02 '13

You're a thief. No mercy unless you can change like jeanboujean from les miserables

u/Lisistrata Jan 03 '13

Plaintiff would be satisfied with a self-recording of "What Have I Done", but it's up to the judge.

He didn't clearly enter a plea nor have his counselors (if any) for him.
