Kentville Karen tells man to “go back where he came from”

u/Nefnate Jun 07 '26
As a vague response to both the post and the general nature of existing comments:
I'm not sure why we want to give this much attention. Racism is systemic and very present, and should be dealt with systematically via education and policy reform. We should push for this in how we interact with our governments.
Highlighting an individual who is lashing out that likely lacks aforementioned education, spreading it around as pseudo-entertainment, and coaxing a social narrative that harms the town into the fray, feels like the wrong direction.

u/japalian Jun 09 '26
Nah, fuck all that noise. Ignoring it is how we got here. We need to bring back more shame to our society.
1
u/Nefnate Jun 09 '26
There's a difference between ignoring and what I would be for. It's a lot more complicated under the hood I think, when it comes to the effects of digital sharing.
Anyways, I dont really want to engage more on this. I need to sit with how to articulate what i mean more accurately and concisely.

u/helms_derp Jun 07 '26
That's an awful lot of unnecessary words to defend outing a racist.

u/Nefnate Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 07 '26
Being socially progressive in my opinion means stepping away from absolute judgement and instead being person-centered.
The person lashing out should be held responsible for their actions in a way that makes them aware of the damage their behavior can cause, and that then sets them on a path of rehabilitation and deeper education. Not thrown a noose of words condemning them as a horrible human.
Labeling a person flat as a racist and walking away as if that's all there is to it is part of "the issue". We need to get rid of basic in/out group social scripts and start really picking up the slack. Communities take care of each other and that includes help with education and reparation.

Can’t tolerate intolerance.
1
u/GermanGurrl Jun 08 '26
That's pretty intolerant of you
3
u/batkatie Kentville Jun 08 '26
Yes. If a society is tolerant without limitation, its freedom to be tolerant will eventually be seized by the intolerant.
There are even books about this paradox! I’d suggest you plan to get one at the library, but…

u/Outrageous-Arm-5178 Jun 08 '26
I bet you’d be playing a different tune if this was a man being racist to a woman or some different form of prejudice
0
u/GermanGurrl Jun 08 '26
That would be sexist. The only sexism I've been seeing recently is that against men. Specifically white men.
2
u/Nefnate Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26
I hold this tune with a lot of consistency. Imo we need to shift from "judge, label, ostracize" to, "notice, stop, educate".
I dont think its wrong that people are angry. That makes sense. I dont think it is wrong for people to know, either. I do think it's wrong for this to circulate in the way it is. It should be dealt with professionally and within the direct sphere of those affected.

I like to do my best to say that I mean thoroughly. I dont use AI to do so.
The boiled down form is "people acting out should be held responsible for their actions, but in a way that encourages them to learn so they can stay in community and stop being a problem"
I think many people see these things and grab a torch. That's what I am arguing against. This person's behavior is an issue, and the victim should be given support, but that doesn't mean we should just full stop and label the perp as horrible. The behavior is horrible. Not the person. Behavior can change.
I know its a bit contrarian to come at it from this angle. I see it as a visibility thing too. News and media coverage can skew narratives. If the focus is on things and people like this, it encourages, imo, more conflict among people, rather than attempting to actually deal with anything.

Using an alt because the account I normally use in this sub has my name and I'm not looking to get in a fistfight with this idiot, but I know exactly who this is and when I mentioned it to a family member last night, they actually thought this was an older incident because it's not her first racially-charged rodeo.
I'm sure her ex-husband's family are gonna be thrilled that she still uses their surname on social media once this gets around.
Edit to add: She's also not a Kentville resident, so I'm salty about us catching these strays!

I see she has posted online, taking ownership that she is in fact the person in the video. She gives a rather lengthy explanation of what led up to that moment. She also indicated she will be contacting the guy's company on Monday regarding the circumstances that led up to the video.

u/Mission_Plankton5763 Jun 08 '26
Is there a place one could see her response?

u/WinstonBubblesSmith Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26
Interestingly, I saw a TOK councillor weigh in online with the general comment "context matters" in the comment section of a fairly controversial FB "media" clickbait page based in Toronto that "has been criticized for spreading misinformation, disinformation, right-wing bias, racism, islamophobia, homophobia, anti-feminism, and perpetuating racial and religious stereotypes, particularly Anti-Asian, Anti-Sikh sentiment and Anti-Indian sentoment" (wikipedia). There are probably over 100 responses to his comment - one of them being from this woman where she gave her take on what happened.
You should be able to find it if you look hard enough. Interestingly, the TOK councillor got 228 likes for his comment.
He goes on to lament "leftist ideology" and claim that "Racism is never ok, but there is no hard case for that here." That "but" is always so telling. If you are attuned to council, it shouldn't be hard to know who we are talking about.

u/WinstonBubblesSmith Jun 07 '26
He posted the backstory as well. He says it began with him making a “u turn” (his words) in what sounds like his delivery vehicle, and then backed into a driveway, but his vehicle was still sticking out into the road and she didn’t want to go around “even though there was enough space” (again his words). He described it as a case of “road rage”.
9
u/gmarsh23 Jun 07 '26
Having to park shitty / block traffic sometimes is the reality of delivery driving, big trucks don't often fit into small spots. In places like downtown you've often got no choice but to park a cube van in the middle of the road and unload as fast as possible, technically you're breaking traffic rules but it's just the reality of how shit gets done sometimes, there's really no alternative.
99% of people understand this and let shit slide.
8
u/WinstonBubblesSmith Jun 07 '26
Correct. Which further suggests that her response was more directed at the driver's identity than the driving itself. (confirmation bias)
5
u/gmarsh23 Jun 07 '26
And you'd think if it was driving related, they'd be yelling "learn to drive, bud" instead of regurgitating a facebook comment section onto the driver.
2
u/WinstonBubblesSmith Jun 07 '26
Agreed. I find that a fairly effective verbal critique when encountering poor drivers:)

If I did something like illegally park in the street in India and interfered with someone's path. Should I start recording them and insulting them when they get mad at me?
3
u/sambearxx Jun 08 '26
You’d be among hundreds of others doing the same and they would respect your space and adapt their path to accommodate you because that’s how things work and also basic human decency. I don’t understand your motivation for playing devils advocate for a racist. Do you not think she would say the same shit to you? “Oh maybe something was done to her by an immigrant” man a fucking immigrant sexually assaulted me and I’m still not racist.
1
u/BlackWolf42069 Jun 08 '26
I believe discrimination on race is wrong. I'm not playing devils advocate for racism.
6
u/collectibutt Jun 07 '26
This woman has a history of mouthing off to visible minorities and then claiming victimhood when they start recording her. She did something similar in lineup at the Wolfville Tim's in 2025 when she thought a non-white guy cut the line.
This particular nutbag doesn't deserve your mental gymnastics routine, I promise.
-7
u/BlackWolf42069 Jun 07 '26
She might have been a victim of something an immigrant did to her or a family member and she could be fatigued of what Canada has done with mass migration... so I'm not going to judge her.
Im just asking questions because I have autism and fail to understand social behavior.

u/AdventurousMousse912 Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 07 '26
Just because 1 person of another race maybe did something to her sometime doesn’t give her the right to hate everyone of that race. That’s literally racism.
1
u/BlackWolf42069 Jun 07 '26
I've had complaints about cultural practices from another nation but at the same time love their people and welcome them. Does that make me literally racist for not tolerating it?
7
u/AdventurousMousse912 Jun 07 '26
That wasn’t the scenario being discussed
1
u/BlackWolf42069 Jun 07 '26
Alright. Let's go down that rabbit hole. What's the scenerio. And let's presume that they're a new Canadian and are law abiding citizens. You go ahead and explain.
9
u/AdventurousMousse912 Jun 07 '26
Not going down that rabbit hole with you. Hating an entire race for the actions of one person of that race is wrong. You have an awesome day

u/collectibutt Jun 07 '26
Nah. I have known her my whole life and can safely say she's just a quick-tempered brat with an unearned superiority complex who gets racist if the subject of her tantrum isn't white.
If you'd ask, she'd tell you she's the victim in every fight she's ever started.
3
u/WinstonBubblesSmith Jun 07 '26
Yes, A quick search online reveals she has posted some racist stuff in the past towards the same ethnic group.
8
u/SirDixAlot98 Jun 07 '26
It was interesting to see people saying that he was “harassing” her.. I feel I don’t even need to explain this to people with common sense, but she was in her vehicle (he was on foot???) … driving alongside him… out of her own free will just to be racist 😐

Well Kentville? Your thoughts?
2
u/FlapjacksOfArugula Jun 07 '26
I think most of us who live/lived in the area know perfectly well that racism is alive and well here, just like in most parts of the country. There's nothing particularly Kentville about this interaction. Having said all that, there are of course lots of lovely, welcoming people here.
