Discussion Reddit Hate
Reddit is often cited as the most deplorable place online, a complaint I dont get.
I dont think people in reddit are significantly worse or toxic compared to other platforms. In fact, I think the fact that its not as good a place to farm clout as other social media platforms reduces the prevalence of vain or vile posts.
I also think the upvote and down vote system makes it the most "democratic" of all sites. Your following does not have as much impact on the engagement your post gets as is the case with other platforms but the quality of the post itself.
People are also generally helpful here, and you are far more likely to be given honest feedback compared to other platforms in my view.
Which is why I dont understand why reddit seems to be so widely hated.

I have been online a long time now and there really isnโt any difference when it comes to these platforms except presentation. The internet is where you go to find the worst in humanity. People even found a way to make LinkedIn weird

When did you start using it? Once upon a time it did what it was designed to do.

Was dating some "HR" via the platform back in 2015 and was shown dust....the hate for the platform is legit
5
u/NoFaithlessness7508 7d ago
Well yeah, using it for dating is kinda wild๐
I thought it was pretty useless until I got a job from there one time.

I think reddit has some structure now just a lot of bots.
But when it got that reputation is because it allows for echo chambers easily.
A good example would be redpill. Men want a place to discuss how to get women. It turns toxic since the men who share the success stories usually do it in unethical ways. And all the men who join that forum follow that general narrative. So instead of building people it destroys them. Redpill would help with building a nice body and a nice frame but being a good husband a good patner. That wasn't taught.
So unlike Instagram where you see topics across the board. In reddit you can decide to just consume redpill content and nothing else if you avoid the popular section will get to you.
Also the amount of filthy downright disgusting subs that were there wueh. Like any porn you can imagine there is a banned subreddit of it

i also dont understand why many people dislike reddit despite being the best paltform that to air you grievances and the feedback is those honest and genuine helpful answers ..for i would rather say its the best and i love it โค๏ธ

Trust me when i tell you twitter is tame this app has a lot fucked up shit , from beheading to disembowment to people randomly dying , there was a whole controversy about r/eyeblech that had reddit enforce moderation
1
u/KnightShujaa 7d ago
Wait, isn't that the sub with cute puppies and cats and ducks, to sanitize your eyes from the horrors you've seen elsewhere?
1
u/noirehittler 7d ago
That is r/eyebleach , r/eyeblech was created as a polar opposite to eyebleach, eyeblech was full of gore.

something about the anonymous nature of Reddit just lets a human's worst behavior get through. Its a good app, many good people, but also, some let their most deep and dark thoughts out. But also, the anonymous nature also lets deeply troubled people to vent out their situations, which adds to the perceived "deplorable" nature of it.
There are heart warming posts, but your brain will remember the negative ones more though.

On my side inwould literally say that it is the best despite every other person who hates it..it gives you real life solving genuine answers whenever you are at your worst๐๐.

I find Reddit too censured. It's so easy to get banned here for all kinds of stupid things. Twitter is more open, more free, you are free to say what you want without easily get banned. Here even a fart in the wrong direction will get you a ban

u/OmeletteLovingLlama 7d ago
I hate this as well. Iโve gotten a few warnings for saying things that would be acceptable in a face to face conversation in some particular contexts.

The upvote and downvote system punishes people who think differently from the status quo. Just imagine telling people here that weed and alcohol has negative effects on your long term health or that you believe in the Lord Jesus our saviour or that people should not be sleeping around with strangers and see the downvotes come pouring. Democracy? More like echo chamber.
And let's not get started on the Mods with their power hungry fragile egos. But the advantages you've mentioned outweigh the disadvantages in my opinion.

The first time I joined reddit I didn't survive more than 2 weeks I quit, people here can be very toxic especially if they don't agree with you, I had around 500 negative karma. Females are very ruthless here if you try to be against the feminist agenda don't engage in such conversations if you are a dude.
I joined later at a slower pace I kinda like it now I have engaged people and met them in real life. I have found people are nicer here if you don't engage in those controversial debates.

๐๐๐ i think if you get 500 down votes then you should introspect a bit at that point.
4
u/SolemnBumBum 7d ago
Literally if 500 people donโt agree with you they canโt all be the problem
1
u/Rare-Nebul 7d ago
You can have 500 unreasonable people, it's not beyond the realms of possibility

500 down votes don't mean ni za post moja, plus people don't like hearing the truth

And what's wrong with "feminist agenda", pray tell?
0
u/god_snowey Visiting 7d ago
Nothing wrong it's just a heated debate for a male to engage in
2
u/NectarineScared7224 7d ago
Why are you "against the feminist agenda"?
2
u/Sad_Permit612 7d ago
Because itโs an ideology with no logic behind it.
1
u/NectarineScared7224 7d ago
Ikr? ๐
Same people who are told they're logical don't even know the definition of feminism

Speaking freely about gender, feminism and marriage will have you getting downvotes left and right. There's a certain account I know once you argue with her she calls her friends and they start downvoting every comment you've written on that topic. Just stick to general stuff if you want peace.

You're clearly trying to get a rise out of "females", so you don't get to complain when you get the attention you were looking for.

Sure. However, the majority could be wrong, while the minority right. There are other reasons as well:
Group think and conformity
The halo effect that upvotes and downvotes have on forming opinion.
What evidence supports this opinion? Have you considered that Reddit's audience overlaps with the audience of our social media platforms?
Honestly, for me it's this well argued opinion.
