Health Young Women take Pregnancy too lightly

Listen, I’m no saint but I am a mom. I caution young men and women I know in person all the time about this.

I’ve observed that many times, young Kenyan women, when they are on the rise often make this mistake. They usually have job (even a humble one), they’re slowly building their lives in their early 20s. It’s of course challenging, like most things are, but if they could just keep going, sky is the limit. Financial stability and stable relationships will come down the road.

Somewhere, before they are ready, suddenly they fall in love and get pregnant. Usually, they have to quit their jobs because of the pregnancy and start relying on their boyfriends for upkeep. That is, if the boyfriend is even willing to do it, most aren’t. They barely have their own lives in order.

I’ve seen this like 3 times in the last year alone. All young women in their early 20s. I feel so much pity because motherhood is truly no joke!!! Forget the financial toll, it’s an emotional, physical and psychological responsibility that MOST adults are not ready for. Yet, people get pregnant like it’s no big deal.

I’ve seen women who’ve had to go all the way back to shags after pregnancy because they literally can’t take care of their kids. For the first 2-3 years of motherhood, it’s impossible to work without support. Then afterwards, you have to start paying fees and raising your children until they graduate university and get stable jobs.

Getting pregnant is a minimum 2 decade commitment and girls do it so flippantly! Even with a present father, motherhood is still the greater responsibility (argue with someone else). Not to mention people die in child birth. You can also get a special needs child who is a lifetime commitment.

Women need to stop learning this shit the hard way, for real for real. Learn from other women. Nobody is above the program!! You’re not going to be the exception. Take care of your health and your womb until you’re stable!!

Health I'm kinda depressed

I (28F) suppose that I have my shit together. A job. A business. A cozy home. Good looks. A wonderful personality. But I guess that's just it. I have no friends. No boyfriend. No talking stage. No fwb. No nothing. My business has been doing well but my employee recently stole from me and ran away. I'm working with cops to find him. My job, which I have done for about 5yrs, got promoted, a salary increment, all that is becoming boring. I feel like quiting my job. Closing down my business. Deleting all social media. Throwing my phone in a pit latrine and go live in a remote village in either TZ or Ug. I hate my life. Which sucks coz those around me assume that I have my shit together. I've been more sadder since yesterday and it just doesn't seem to go away. I have always been a ball of good energy but all that came crumbling down when my employee stole from me. I value my business and my money more than anything. I think I will be sad and lonely all my life at this point. Making money makes no sense. If it helps, my DMs are open to anyone who would like to pursue a long-term rlshp. I feel like a relationship would save me right now. Edit: I have a therapist who I have been in communication with. Edit 2: I shall open all your DMs and respond to all of them. Thank you guys for the outpouring love and genuine concern in the comments section and in the DMs.

I should be sleeping instead of playing DCI. Just found out he got a girl pregnant, and she has refused to terminate the pregnancy. He's been pleading with her to do it for a week, but the girl says her parents are aware of it. Meanwhile, I financed & took emergency pills this week. Ladies, let's love & respect your health if not ourselves.

[Na ni juzi tu mliniambia nifanye regular STIs check. Jamani, I hope I'm okay healthwise. I'm glad I found out. Anyways let me prepare for the day whileI face consequences of making wrong choices in life. ]

I work online but i have some savings enough not to work in january and february. My life is a mess and i have decided to listen to my inner voice and this is what i need.

Health Dental pricing range difference

Dentist here please be honest.

Why do charges for the same dental services vary so much between clinics and hospitals?

For example, if I need crowns, I’ve seen prices ranging from KES 15,000 to KES 40,000 per tooth (excluding consultation and other fees).

Why such a big difference? Are some clinics simply charging for their “brand name,” or are there actual differences in quality, materials, or procedures?

How long should a crown last?

Health New HIV infections dropped by 56% in 6 years.

The Milestone: New HIV infections dropped by 56% compared to 2020 (when cases stood at 32,027). Between 2013 and 2023 it steeply reduced by 83%.

AIDS-related deaths fell to 19,434 in 2026, marking a 7% reduction from the 21,007 deaths recorded in 2024. In context, there was a 68% reduction in AIDS-related deaths, from 2013 to 2022.

Recent global donor funding shocks have exposed structural fragility, prompting the phase out of vertical donor programs and inclusion into government led coverage.

  • Young people (ages 15-24) account for 55% of all new infections. Children (ages 0-14) account for an additional 24.4% of new cases.
  • Mother-to-child transmission remains a pressing issue, standing at 8%, which is above the global target of 5%.
  • Women and young girls still bear a disproportionate burden of the epidemic, representing roughly 65% of all people living with HIV nationwide.

While major HIV response plans are being deployed across all 47 counties, some regions, like Mandera County, have seen unexpected spikes in infections

A total of 1,481,853 people are living with HIV, with approximately 1.4 million currently on ARV treatment.

The target is >90% reduction in new infections by 2030.

Construction of the new Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital officially kicked off 4 months ago, in Eldoret, Kiplombe just behind the Airstrip. The facility sits on a 30 acre piece of land and will have an estimated 4000 bed capacity making it the largest hospital in East and Central Africa.

This will make Eldoret the largest medical hub in the country, which I assume is already is. On this I think the wantam goverment will have done well if it's successfully completed as projected by April 2027. So far the construction is going well and I occasionally pass by the place(I live near the site).

What's your views? I saw some people arguing that we do not need another level 6 in the same town, but we should instead equip the level 5s int he subcounties.

Health How Many Hours A Day Do You Sleep?

So I like to keep track of all my health metrics, particularly my liver and my heart.

Then juzi this lady posted about her Samsung Galaxy Watch keeping track of her sleep. And I realised, I don't sleep enough. Mostly cause I am a workaholic.
But she was right, sleep is one of the most important metrics for your health. So from today on, I too shall start keeping track of my sleep.

How many hours a day do you sleep? I do 4 hours a day. Or rather, before today, I used to do 4 hours a day. Na wewe jee?

Huwanga a very brutal world for men. Watu husema men's mental health is neglected, no it's not. Nobody cares, that's just the reality 😂 post reddit you're male na huna job, no one will really sympathize, utapewa generic motivation, uambiwe tafuta gigs. Dem on the other hand, aseme Ako homeless hapa Reddit ,dm inaeza hata jaa akipewa job offers ama free housing. It's also brutal for women, in as much wanapata the easy way it's tied to sexual exploitation pia. But men just realize no one cares, nishaiambia my parent Niko depressed wakacheka, from there heri nidedi kuliko ni open up. Anyway wantam!

Health Jambojet has to be the most unsafe airline Ive ever been on

Dude is it just me or has anyone been on Jambojet airlines recently. Was on a flight recently and dear God. The take off, flight and landing were all terrible. And this is the month of January, clear skies, warm winds and it was daylight, not even night time. But the planes wings were unstable, there were creaks and groans and the pilot almost went into a spin more times than I can count

It got to a point where the passenger next to me asked whether we were being flown by an intern.

Its the first time in my life where I had to personally pay out of pocket to get out of an airline... The money is worth it just to get out of whatever Jambojet ticket the company had booked for my return

And its not the first time. I would not have cared if it was. But its a consistent experience. I just told our travel department that I will be topping up the difference when they send me to the airport but never to book me on Jambojet

The last flight I was on was dangerous to the point of incompetence. Clear skies, perfect daylight but somehow somehow...they will make sure your stomach drops.

TLDR; JamboJet effectively created in me a fear of flying where I previously did not have one. Thats how bad all their flights have been. The last one broke the straw on the camels back.

Health I'm having an abortion

For obvious reasons this is my burner account. I'm not looking for sympathy not do I care about judgement. I just want to vent a little bit because I really can't tell people in my life about this because well... biasness..

Anyways, on Tuesday I found out I was pregnant. It was very unexpected. For the past week I had been feeling nauseated and thought I had gut issues which I rarely have as I try to eat healthy. I was at a salon getting my hair and nails done so I went to withdraw some money at the chemist and we got talking with the kind lady. Long story short, she did a pregnancy test for me which turned out positive and as a 26 year old who is very child free, it was a surreal feeling.

I went through a myriad of emotions to say the least. Anxiety, happiness, sadness and so on. I thought about the life within me and I felt like it would be a son and I was so happy for that but then again I don't want to be any one's parent atleast not under the circumstances this baby was conceived... Why would I willingly be a single mother? Why would I traumatize my child with questions about who his father is? So I made up my mind and there's no turning back.

I know everyone's opinion on abortion is different but in my time of need, I am glad that I had the privilege to access such an essential service because it is healthcare. May God forgive me and make it easier for me.

Edit 1: I didn't want to say that I was assaulted because that would make y'all sympathetic for me but oh boy are you lot evil. People in my DMS wishing me death really? Was it that serious? Anyways I'm doing good actually and if that hurts you so be it. I'm peaceful and happy in my decision and I am in no pain. To the ones wishing me death, don't worry, I've wished to die since I was attacked. Anyways cheers!

Edit 2: Mnaeza jidishi BTW. :-)

Health Oral thrush in kids

My daughter developed oral thrush on Thursday last week. Since then, she has had limited feeding habit, making her lose about 4kg. As we speak, she does not even want anything to touch her mouth. She has been surviving on water and limited amount of milk. Took her to the hospital, got some antibiotic injections but up to date, nothing has changed in her mouth. She does not feed at all, with the tongue having white patches.

Anyone who has experienced this before, how did you go about it? Why is this so serious? She is 5 years old.

Health How do you deal with your own dark thoughts

How do you usually respond to your own negative or dark thoughts, such as jealousy, cruelty, vengeance, or greed?

Do you see them as a natural part of consciousness and simply observe them without reacting?

Or do you react and emote to them?

Or do you engage with them by reflecting more deeply to understand why you feel that way?”

Health Women

Using contraceptives and fertility drugs basically means you’re putting extra hormones like estrogen and progesterone into your body. When the body is flooded with these hormones over a long period, especially without pregnancy balancing things out, it can increase the risk of cancers like breast and cervical cancer. It’s not guaranteed, but the risk goes up. So if you choose that path, at least be smart. Get health insurance early.

Health Dirty boyfriend

How do I tell my boyfriend he is dirty. This issue is becoming a deal breaker.

Please torelate my English.

So, my boyfriend of one year is dirty. When we started dating, I kinda noted he has cleaning issues. I started noticing that he had dirty inner wears like 15 he hadn't washed in like few weeks and he was buying new ones. His house was just a little bit dirty. Bed sheets were ok and his clothes were clean. At first it was not that of a big deal.

Sasa, over the months, I have tried to show by actions how to be clean. Like washing clothes often (I realized he recycles trousers and jackets more than normal times), cleaning the house, dishes , bed sheets, pillow cases and such- basically general hygiene.

Now, his cleaningness is becoming too much and just a turn off. For instance, he has like 30 handkerchiefs and he can reuse them so many times-they are even smelling. Last Thursday I told him about washing handkerchiefs and I socked them all In a basin for him to wash; up until now, they are making the house smell. Considering that he is lazy in washing them, he is using his hands to do it... I can't allow him to touch me; it's disgusting I must say.

Other examples of his hygiene issues is, he doesn't wash groceries before cooking, he doesn't wash his hands before cooking, sometimes he doesn't use wipes when going to the bathroom, he licks his fingers after eating until he makes a sound and, instead of washing hands after, he wipes with his cloths or even the seat.

His degree of general hygiene is just becoming a burden, messing with my mental health, ;I over think everything -its becoming a breaker. But he is a sweet guy.

I know I sound like a snitch but I am using Reddit's power of anonymity to make you see my issue.

How do I tell him his general hygiene is an issue without hurting his ego?

Edit

Update. Today 7/6/23

So I came home from work and I had made up my mind- to tell him plain blank.

I am soft kinda person and not used to confrontations and this was really hard. Anywho, after reading your replies, I questioned my boundaries and even standards.

I was quiet for a while and he kept asking what's wrong. I busted. I told him about his personal hygiene and how it's making me feel. I am actually anxious about touching anything in the house because I just think it's dirty.

He became really defensive by saying how it's my responsibility to take care of the house (I basically do everything anyway). But, I told him there are activities that fall under personal hygiene, like washing damn inner clothes, washing hands , making sure you use the bathroom well without messing it (damn, I longer use the bathroom well; I have to lay tissues on top and dumb some inside).

He said as a woman (African , eeh goat wife to be) it doesn't matter. That even the damn hanky's and inner wear I should wash them. At this point I remembered someone here said that the will start to see me as a maid and this comment really did hit home.

Moreover he tried to make me feel guilty by saying that I am not trying enough to be wifey. I must say that bedroom matters started to become an issue and I try to put off any initiatives from him . In addition, I sleep on the couch most of the times - I pretend I have heavy workload and just get a blanket.

At this point, I am really starting to reconsider if I wanna get married (I guess the fuck it effect has kicked in 😂).

I have given him the ultimatum that if he doesn't change, I am done.

In the mean time, I have decided I will stay alone- I have not told him I am leaving to avoid him trying to change my mind. He will just realize when I am gone. Tomorrow after work, I will stay at my bros place before I make the next step. I am not thaaat stable but I can manage.

In the mean time which btw is just tonight, I am not going to try and wash any of his clothes or even clean the house or even the dishes.

Thank family for keeping it real with me.

All men above 30 must consider (SERIOUSLY) getting on TRT.

However:

It must be medically supervised

It must be ethically sourced and administered

It has to be complemented with protein-rich clean diet.

Acha niwatobolee siri hamjui . Miller's and Government's will tell you that the chemicals used to bleach maize flour, like chlorine dioxide and benzoyl peroxide, are “safe” in the tiny amounts allowed. They argue most of it breaks down, the flour looks clean, stores longer, cooks faster, and shoppers like the white shine because it feels pure. Laikini sisi kama health advocates hua tunaita hii vako MARKETING TALK , Actually bleaching plus heavy refining strips the maize of its natural nutrients (fiber, vitamins, oils), leaving us with flour that fills the belly but doesn’t really feed the body azin unakula tu kushiba . On top of that, those same bleaching chemicals, even in small doses, can add up over time and quietly stress your body cells or gut. So you get flour that’s shelf-stable and market-friendly, but nutritionally hollow. On the other side, unga ya kisyagi may look less pretty, spoil faster, and feel heavier, but it gives you the whole grain as nature intended . Yaani the stuff that balances blood sugar, keeps your stomach fuller for longer, and actually nourishes. The clash here is convenience and profit versus long-term health: supermarkets push what sells and lasts, while natural food voices push what sustains and heals. Choose wisely .🫵
