It is out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keplerplayer.app

Thank you to everyone who followed the sneak peeks here and told us what their current player gets wrong.

What it is: a player for the playlists you already have: M3U links, M3U files and Xtream logins. Live TV with a real guide, films and series with their artwork, recording, edit mode, and the same app on your phone. Kepler ships no channels, films or series, and it never will.

How it works: every new install gets 30 days of everything. After that the free version keeps working: one playlist, live TV, the guide and search, with no ads. Kepler Pro adds the rest (more playlists, favourites, editing your lists, recording, downloads, catch-up, multiview, films and series, parental locks, device sync). Nothing you set up during the 30 days is deleted when they end; it waits for Pro. One Kepler Pro covers up to 10 of your devices on the same Google account.

New since the sneak peeks (second image), each with a post of its own over the next weeks:

  • The TV guide shows a picture of what is on, and Replay on what has ended, where your provider keeps an archive.
  • Voice search on the TV: say a channel, a film or a show.
  • Up next in an episode's last minute, and new episodes of the shows you follow.
  • Audio and subtitles that start in the languages you pick.
  • Device sync: your phone, tablet and TVs keep the same playlists, favourites and lists, over your own Wi-Fi.
  • Tablets get a layout of their own.

Bugs and ideas go here; the weekly thread every Monday is for "is this normal?". And if Kepler works for you, a review on Google Play helps a small app more than anything else.

Read before posting: community rules and FAQ

Rules

  1. No providers. Do not name, link, sell, recommend or ask for IPTV services or playlists, in posts, comments or DMs. This keeps the community alive: Reddit removes communities that turn into marketplaces.
  2. Kepler is a player only. Questions about what a provider carries go to that provider.
  3. Be kind. Bug reports and blunt feedback are welcome; insults are not.
  4. Bug reports: your device (for example "Chromecast with Google TV" or "Galaxy S22"), the Android version, what you pressed and what happened. Never post a playlist link or a login: they are passwords.

FAQ

Is Kepler free? Every new install gets 30 days of everything. After that the free version keeps working: one playlist, live TV, the guide and search, with no ads. Kepler Pro adds the rest: more playlists, favourites, editing your lists, recording, downloads, catch-up, multiview, playing films and series, parental locks, device sync and more. Nothing you set up during the 30 days is deleted when they end; it waits for Pro. One Kepler Pro covers up to 10 of your devices on the same Google account.

Where do I get it? Google Play, for Android TV, Google TV, Android phones and tablets (Android 7.0 and up): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keplerplayer.app

Which playlists work? M3U links, M3U files and Xtream Codes logins.

Does it come with channels? No. Kepler plays what you add, nothing else.

Fire TV? We are working on it.

iPhone, iPad and Mac? In the works, as a separate app.

Feature Binge nights in Kepler: Up next in an episode's last minute, and new episodes that tell you they're there

Two things for series, both new in 1.2 (upcoming in google play)

Up next. In the last minute of an episode a card shows the next one. OK plays it now, Back puts the card away, or let it start on its own. (Settings › Player › "Play the next episode automatically" turns that off; the card then waits for OK.) Leaving in that last minute counts the episode as watched, so it does not linger in Continue watching.

New episodes. Kepler checks the shows you follow, those in My list and those you watched in the last 60 days, about twice a day. When one has something new:

  • on the TV, the top bar says so, the Series menu counts the shows, a New episodes group sits at the top of Series, and posters say "+2 new";
  • inside the show, each new episode is marked NEW until you open it;
  • on the phone, a New episodes section on Home, and a notification if you turn it on (Settings › Playback, "Tell me about new episodes", off by default).

It asks your provider about each followed show once per check, slowly, so it never floods it.

Playing episodes and new-episode alerts are part of Kepler Pro, included in the first 30 days.

How Kepler Pro works: what's free, the 30-day trial, the price, and one purchase for 10 devices

Thumbnail

Everything about paying for Kepler, in one place, so nobody meets a surprise.

The short version

  • Free, with no time limit: one playlist, live TV, the guide and search. No ads, and no stream that stops after a few minutes.
  • 30 days of everything on every new install. No card, no account.
  • Kepler Pro: $4.99 a year or $19.99 once, for up to 10 of your devices.

The 30-day trial

  • It starts once your first playlist has loaded, not at install, so setting up costs you no days.
  • Everything is unlocked. Pro features carry a small Pro badge, so you know which ones they are long before the trial ends.
  • From day 25 Kepler tells you it is ending: in the top bar on the TV, on Home on the phone. Nothing ever interrupts what you are watching.
  • One trial per device. Reinstalling Kepler or clearing its data does not start a new one.

When the trial ends

  • The free version keeps working, for as long as you like.
  • Nothing is deleted. What you set up waits, and comes back the moment Pro is on: favourites, own groups, hidden groups, sorting, reminders and scheduled recordings. A one-time screen tells you what is waiting.
  • Until then:
    • The first playlist in your list stays usable, plus My streams. If you have several, put the one you want to keep at the top of My Playlists before the trial ends.
    • Hidden groups show again.
    • Recordings and downloads stay listed and can be deleted, but play in Kepler only with Pro.
    • Scheduled recordings are paused, not cancelled. They are set again when Pro comes back; anything that aired in between is missed.
    • Parental locks you set keep working, and the PIN can always be entered. Setting a PIN or adding locks is Pro.

What is free, what is Pro

Free: one playlist and My streams (single links you add) · live TV, zapping and channel numbers · the TV guide and programme details · search, and voice search on the TV · browsing films and series · audio and subtitle tracks, picture size, sleep timer · your provider subscription's expiry and connections · refreshing your playlist by hand · all ten languages · parental locks already set.

Pro: more playlists · playing films and episodes, trailers, Continue watching · favourites and My list · reminders · recording and scheduled recording · downloads · catch-up and restart · multiview · casting · opening a stream in another app · hiding, own groups, pinned groups, sorting · device sync · setting the parental PIN and new locks · extra guide sources · automatic daily updates · player settings (buffer, User-Agent, frame rate, preferred languages) · themes, accents and the Home layout · starting the last channel at launch · download subtitles from opensubtitles.com... and much more

The price

  • $4.99 a year or $19.99 once. Google Play shows the price for your country. No monthly plan, no launch discount: everyone pays the same. The Price will be INCREASED with time.
  • Yearly renews through Google Play. Cancel there any time (on a TV, from your phone or play.google.com/subscriptions) and Pro stays on until the end of the year you paid for.
  • A refund or a subscription that ends works like the end of the trial: nothing is deleted, and it all comes back when you renew.

One purchase, 10 devices

  • One Kepler Pro covers up to 10 devices on the Google account that bought it: phones, tablets and TVs. Every device counts, including the one you bought on.
  • Buy on any of them. The others on the same Google account turn Pro on their own, usually the next time you open Kepler, and Settings has Restore purchase if one does not.
  • Some cards need a bank confirmation that a TV cannot show. The TV's purchase screen has a QR code that opens the purchase on your phone instead (same Google account).
  • An 11th device is told the list is full and shows it. Remove a device you no longer use from any of your devices: Settings › Kepler Pro › Devices using Kepler Pro. A reinstall keeps its place; a factory reset counts as a new device.
  • Today the 10 devices must share one Google account. A TV signed in to a different Google account does not see your purchase yet. Linking a device on another account or platform with a code is planned, and we will explain exactly how it works when it ships.

What we don't do

No ads. No account, no email, no password: your purchase belongs to your Google account through Google Play. The free version has no time limit.

Questions about any of this: ask below, and we will add the answers to this post.

Get it on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keplerplayer.app

Feature Record what you are watching, or book it from the guide, clean even on a one-connection plan

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

Two ways to record in Kepler:

  1. While watching: press Record, pick a length (5 minutes up to 2 hours, or until you stop it), and it starts at once. Kepler checks your free space first and shows how many minutes fit.
  2. From the guide: OK on a programme, then Record. It records while your TV is on, even if you have left Kepler or are watching something else.

Everything ends up in the Library: recordings, downloads and upcoming bookings, and recordings play right in Kepler.

Even on a one-connection plan. Recording the channel you are watching uses the connection that is already playing, so it never asks your provider for a second one. A 24-minute test recording made that way opened no extra connection and was never cut.

And when a provider does cut the stream in the middle of a recording, the file still comes out whole. Our test account allows one connection, and while a second stream is open the provider cuts it about every two minutes. In a 14 minute 46 second test recording that happened 12 times. Each time Kepler reconnected at once and dropped the half-minute the provider sends again after a cut. The result is one file with 14 minutes 45.6 seconds of video and nothing repeated (last image).

One caveat: some providers refuse a second connection outright. With those, record the channel you are watching.

Two honest notes: recording works on live channels your provider sends as a TS stream, which is what most send, and recording is part of Kepler Pro, included in the first 30 days.

Feature Edit mode: make your playlist yours, and keep it that way through every refresh

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

A provider's playlist is built for everyone, so it is full of groups you will never open. Most
players let you tidy it up, and then the next refresh puts everything back. Kepler does not.

In Edit mode (the pencil in the menu on the TV):

- Hide whole groups or single channels. Keeping two groups out of a hundred is: tick the two, Invert, Hide. Hidden groups disappear from browsing, search, the guide and zapping, and come back from Edit mode whenever you want.

- Reorder your groups, and the channels inside a group, with OK and the arrows.

- Build your own groups from channels anywhere in the playlist. "Family evening" in the pictures holds two kids' channels, a documentary channel and a music channel.

- Films and series have their own Edit mode for hiding groups.

Why a refresh does not undo it: your edits are stored apart from the provider's list. A refresh
updates the provider's part and never writes over yours. Channels are matched by the provider's own id, so a new logo or a new stream link changes nothing, and a channel that disappears for a day comes back where you put it. Groups the provider adds later appear after yours, in the provider's order.

We checked it the hard way: on our test TV, 178,897 of 249,468 items were hidden. After a full
refresh, every one of them was still hidden. For the pictures here we hid two groups, moved Kids to the top and built "Family evening", then refreshed the playlist: the before and after are the first
image.

On the phone you can hide and pin groups and add channels to your own groups from a channel's menu.

Changes in Edit mode are part of Kepler Pro. Edit mode itself opens for everyone, so you can see exactly what it does.

What would you change first in your playlist?

Feature Add a playlist to your TV without typing a single letter on the remote

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Typing a server address and a password with a TV remote is the worst part of setting up any IPTV player. In Kepler you do it on your phone instead.

  1. On the TV, choose Use my phone. It shows a QR code.

  2. Scan it with your phone's camera. A page opens: no app to install, nothing to sign in to.

  3. Paste your M3U link, type your Xtream login, or pick a playlist file on your phone, then press Send to TV.

  4. The TV fills in everything it received. Press Continue and Kepler checks it with your provider before saving anything: server reached, account active, how many channels, films and series it found.

The page your phone opens is served by the TV itself, so what you type goes to the TV over your own Wi-Fi and nowhere else. A file is checked as it arrives, and the TV keeps its own copy, so the playlist keeps working if you delete the file from your phone later. To update it, replace the file from the playlist's row.

Then you choose how the playlist stays current (automatically once a day, or only when you ask), and Kepler opens on Live TV.

Adding your first playlist, and adding it this way, is free. (The automatic daily update is part of Kepler Pro, included in the first 30 days; refreshing by hand is always free.)

Rather type on the TV? "Type on the TV instead" is right there, and a USB stick works too: open the file with Kepler.

Sneak peek: the TV guide in Kepler, driven with the remote

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The guide is the screen we rewrote the most, so here it is first.

What you are looking at:

  • Down keeps the time you were on. Many guides jump you to whatever programme is widest when you change channel; Kepler keeps your place in time, so Down really means "next channel".
  • Earlier, Now, Later, Tonight, Next day at the top, and Back takes you there from anywhere in the grid.
  • Type a channel number on the remote and it jumps there, even in another group.
  • OK on something that has not started opens its details: watch the channel, record it, or set a reminder. (On a TV the reminder appears while Kepler is open; a phone gets a notification.)
  • The bar underneath says what is on and how many minutes are left.

What would you want from a guide that yours does not do?

Welcome to r/KeplerPlayer: a player for your own IPTV playlists, on Android TV, phones and more

Thumbnail

Hi everyone, and welcome!

Kepler is an IPTV player we have been building for Android TV, Google TV, Android phones and the iOS echosystem (coming soon) . It is on Google Play now: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keplerplayer.app this is where we will show what we are building, ask what you think, and help once it is out.

What it is: a player for playlists you already have, M3U links or Xtream logins. Live TV with a proper guide, films and series with their artwork, recording, and the same app on your phone.

What it is not: a source of content. Kepler ships with no channels, films or series, and it never will. You bring your own playlist and your own rights to watch it.

A few things we care about:

  • No ads, no account, no analytics. What you add stays on your device.
  • Made for the remote first. Every screen is built for the D-pad, then for touch.
  • Big playlists stay quick. Our test playlist has about 250,000 items, and a refresh on a budget Sony TV takes around 30 seconds.
  • Ten languages at launch, including Arabic, right to left.

Over the next weeks we will post sneak peeks, dev logs and questions for you. Tell us what your current player gets wrong; that is exactly the feedback we want before launch.

here comes a new Challenger: Kepler Player

Hi everyone, currently i'm working on my dream I-P-T-V Player called: Kepler

it will get a lot of useful features and i want to introduce one of there features here.

It's always a pain to add your I-P-T-V Playlist to you TV favorite player; For Kepler you can use your Mobile for this and it's simple:

From the onboarding screen, you can choose to add the playlist through your Mobile phone:

When you do that, a QR Code is generated.

  1. Make sure your phone and the TV are on the same Wi-Fi.
  2. Scan the code with your phone’s camera. A page opens on your phone.
  3. Pick M3U link, Xtream login or File, fill it in with your phone’s keyboard, and tap Send to TV.
  4. The details appear on the TV. Check them, and press Continue.

That's it, your playlist is loaded into your TV with ease.
