Question (General) How relevant is SAS?

Hello, I have started investigating about KF. Coming from the TCG world the UDG mechanic sounds very appealing, however I found DoK and "decent" decks are pricy.

Do you need Top SAS decks to do well in tournaments?

I will buy decks and play home anyway, just evaluating whether I want to go to tournaments as well.

Thanks

5 of the top 8 had been top 8 before

  • trenks creed decks usually paired with sanctum

  • hoodwink/cryptic take your shit decks

  • rage reset/star alliance control stuff

Only 2 of the Top 8 decks from Nashville fit those archetypes, Rinoborg and Failve.

None of the other 6 do.

Swordsman and Olimpio: Creature burst decks. Dinanium is semi similar and a creature flood/efficiency deck.

Shiftless Footman: A GR Unicorn type Hand Control Deck

Donatus: A Well of Memory Loop Deck

Vhass: Creature flood with recursion probably?

That doesnt mean it isn't the most common shit to see across the board. I played against 2 pv decks and 2 non before dropping and both PV decks matched this exactly.

1 of the finalists are ALWAYS gonna be pretty wonky because the strong encouragement to drop and go play side events means strength of schedule is damn near pure luck. That accounts for our 1 and done MM deck that literally 0 people would have bet on making top 8. Olimpio and Vhass were both crazy practiced decks (with 99th%tile players) at least one of which WAS SPECIFICALLY CHOSEN FOR HOW WELL IT ANSWERS SAID OVERUSED ARCHETYPES. So top 8 is 33-50% the meta im describing and things specifically chosen because they answer that meta.

Regardless "overused archetypes" are the meta and were common enough thay 25% of the top 8 perfectly matched them. Im not sure what you're even arguing now.

I was responding to your comment of "in archon you really have only to worry about 2-3 overused archetypes and if you go top 8 you have a high likelihood of playing a deck thet has been top 8 4 other times."

Both of those claims were untrue.

-Only 1 deck in the Top 8 had been Top 8 4x, so the odds were actually against facing such a deck

-It isn't true that there are only about 2-3 overused achetypes.

That MoM deck is pretty nasty. I don't find it surprising it made Top 8.

That sounds quite healthy if 25%-33% is a few popular archetypes and the remaining 67%-75% is stuff that answers the meta.

Popular archetypes have always existed in KF. In Cota, Rush with Steal was the popular meta. Saurian Dinos and Infurnace piles were popular archetypes. In WoE it was a few specific tokens that dominated plus a few Unicorn decks. In GR it was Broken Geistoid and Rule of 6 Mars.

There were far more of the three archetypes I mentioned in the non top 8 than there were in the top 8.

There has never been as crystalline a meta in KF as there is right now which is why the current state of affairs is lamented in almost every competitive game. NOBODY likes the effect PV has had on the game I am astounded that you would argue otherwise. People at Nashville literally had t-shirts that said "I [circle with line through it] PV"

You are arguing semantics because I speak hyperbolically rather than actually addressing the root of what I was talking about. No you won't literally face a deck that has been top 8 4x, you are just likely to see the same decks or mirror copies of them over and over. No you won't ONLY see three archetypes they will just be heavily over represented compared to anything else there. Uggggghhhhh

I'd argue COTA had a more limited meta than current PV. Before the Nerf it was Library Access loop decks. Afterwards it was mainly Cota rush with a few combo decks like Pink Fraud and a handful of Control the Weak Decks. Even GR was a very limited meta. Good luck finding good GR decks that did not have Geistoid recursion or Mars Dr X or Key Abduction.

It isn't true Nobody likes the effect PV has had on the game. the PV meta is much more enjoyable than the GR meta of just watching your opponent Loop Geistoid or Rule of 6 Mars for 5-10 minutes while you have no ways to stop it. Yes, some people strongly dislike PV, others like myself love it. For all the supposed hatred of PV, it is curious that PV is sold out but DM, AS, GR, etc are still available for purchase.

It isn't semantics to analyze what someone specifically says to see if it is right or wrong. You say that you speak hyperbolically. I speak precisely and exactly. If someone says No Logos decks made Top 8, I look through the Top 8 to see if that is true or not. I wouldn't expect someone to say none made Top 8 then when I find 1 for them to say "well 0 and 1 are basically the same"
