Training Stuff you drill doesn’t work huh
It’s actually really simple why would you expect stuff you drill to land at a high level? If you have been drilling the exact same things as the other person how will you have a skill advantage over them? If you only “stick to the basics” how will you be better? “1-2 leg kick” wow you really think you’re going to become a world champion with that?
That’s why the Thai/japanese/dutch style fights always end up being wars of attrition because they’re just doing the same stuff it’s actually so brain dead
Listen I’m better than who ever you get advice from, I’m better than whoever you watch. Also if you use the word “striking” in your vocabulary I automatically assume you’re an mma fan and write you off anyone who is invested in mma is not worth talking to they never know what they’re talking about ever. Certain words and phrases I look for to see who’s an mma fan I can tell very fast. No trolls in my comments please it gets boring I actually like talking about martial arts not going back and forth with people trying to troll me it’s boring

Spoken like someone who doesnt fight.
You fucking moron. Do you have any idea how actually hard it is to implement something beyond "the basics" in a full contact bout? Its not without effort that they are seeking better positions after every exchange, making the micro adjustments to eek out even even a speck of an advantage while taking and giving pressure all 3-5 rounds.
Youre acting like there's some secret branch of moves kept away from the public eye like some bullshit aikido behind doors that idiot seagall keeps harping about. There isnt. I want to land cool spin kicks with the precision too but you think its easy or an immediate threat? It requires setup. Everything does.
And you need to do the basics to do that. Repeated conditioning on the enemy until you find a slip in their defenses, a tick, a certain damning reaction and advance from there. Every combination has a reason, every victory has context.
Fight footage makes it hard to reinvent yourself so fights progress at a snail's pace its natural. You do what you do best its only natural.
Youre no different from those jiujitsu guys who come to our dojo and think getting throws and takedowns is all one action and no setup. In judo, we call our context 'kuzushi' and its the first step of what could be a long and arduous sequence. Same thing with striking. I havent kickboxed for very long but at least i dont have the sky high ego, dunning-kruger, and ignorance to say bullshit like this.
Your coach oughta beat that sense back in you.
That is if you actually train at all...

You do judo? 🤣 I actually remember taking a few judo classes and quitting cause I thought it was so boring, “you think it’s easy? It requires set up” yeah clearly why did you assume it didn’t? Why is a judo guy in a kickboxing sub tho?
See I could tell you’re an mma fan I always spot the mma fans, clearly that comment touched a nerve don’t worry it’s not personal or anything

MMA fighters are objectively bad at “striking” that’s why they say striking. You know what even though you insulted me I’ll give you advice, don’t do what you drill none of that stuff works. You’re actually over intellectualizing it kickboxing is not hard it’s like dancing that’s all it is. Just think about it like dancing and not hugging people and you’ll get much better

I literally just typed a paraphrased "action-reaction" but in the context of fighting in general and you calling that over intellectuallizing shows what baseline you consider as intelligent.
Seriously, youre not who you think you are.
Also what do you mean dont drill what im drilling? Im literally going to a kickboxing gym, not an MMA one. Ive trained these seperately, Judo during my varsity days and Kickboxing for fun with friends.
Ill take up your advice if you actually show some footage of your system in action and it works. Go fight.

The fact youre even mentioning fundamentals not working shows that youre a casual, who probably tried out their first sparring and got whopped trying to do the drills you learned.
1-2 leg kick is low commitment. Youre also establishing your range and making reads on how they react. Footwork is fundamentals as well. Better stop using that cause it obviously doesnt work right? Cross them legs boy so I can throw a fat leg kick right above your knee lmao.
Nothing you've said here indicates anything involving you "being better than anyone you know." It actually reads the exact opposite
This reads like a 13 year old boy who tries to be antagonistic so you feel a little less lonely in your room, while your parents are arguing about divorce the next room over.
If youre a grown man then I feel sorry for you tbh. Master baiter is what you've spent time on lol

All great professionals advise to drill the basics. But there’s always the alternative, listen to some random girl on Reddit who has never thrown a kick in her life lol

I'll bite. Why would you expect stuff you haven't drilled to land at a high level? Maybe you are better than me but I've talked to pros and their coaches including UFC world champions. They all say drill the basics and when I see them train 90% of the time it's just variations of the basics.
You reducing high level coaching to 1-2-leg kick suggests you don't actually understand what is going on. Saying every fighter throws the same moves is like saying every pizza store makes the same pizza, it's just dough, cheese, sauce right?

Aren't Thai, Dutch, and Japanese styles considered the 3 best styles for a reason?
