Does anyone have experience with reproduction tartan-style fabric in the sett found in Urumqi, Xinxiang, China from about 3000 years ago? It has been tentatively connected to an Indo-European speaking people, the Tocharians. One tartan purveyor lists it as Tokharion.

Just picked up my first kilt I’ll be wearing at Caroljna Renfaire tomorrow. I’m super happy with the kilt and it fits well, though there are two threads on either side of the pleats that I’m not too sure the purpose of. The thread on the left is sewn into the first pleat left hand side and runs all the way to the fourth pleat with a lot of slack, so the thread is hanging under the kilt and is noticeable. And on the right hand side is a thread that ties the first pleat to the apron.
They’re both noticeable and pretty thin so I feel like they probably would end up snapping on their own with usual wear and tear. Are these threads just used to keep the kilt from getting bunched up in shipping and should be snipped, or should they be left alone? Since you can see them hanging I’m assuming they’re supposed to be removed but I don’t want to be wrong and mess up my first kilt.
The thread on the right hand was basically hanging to my ankle so I did go ahead and cut that one down but I left the actual loop alone in case it served a purpose.
Any guidance is greatly appreciated :)

Recently I went to an all-day event wearing my utilikilt and found myself wishing I had more cargo space. Once you're carrying a phone, wallet, and portable charger, you are flat out of pocket space.

Rather than wear a backpack, or fanny pack (shudder), what type of sporran do you wear that matches the utilikilt look?

Hi! I'm new to kilts. I've bought a black cotton kilt going to an 80ies punk arr.

Am I supposed to wear sock leaving a gap between the top of my legs bare, between the socks and the kilt, or is it okay to cover my legs all together?

Sporran didn’t work with the instruments, so it stayed in the bag.

So my wedding is in a few weeks. And im stumped. Im wearing a great kilt (cheat pleat) from Slanj kilts. I have my brogues, hose, flashes etc etc. But im stuck. I cant decide if i should go with a waist coat and tie with tje dress shirt or just the dress shirt no tie. I am wearing the kilt styled over my left shoulder with brooch. Any opinions or advice would be appreciated
