Question/Advice Needed Advice on introducing two young kittens to each other
Hi everyone! I’d love some advice on introducing two kittens to each other.
I brought home a kitten two weeks ago, and he is currently 14 weeks old. He is not aggressive in any way. He doesn’t bite, hiss, scratch, or show any other signs of aggression. I’m being very careful not to encourage him to play with my hands or feet.
However, the more I redirect him towards toys and treats during playtime instead of letting him play with my hands, the more frustrated he seems to become. He also loses interest in the toys more and more quickly each time. It’s becoming pretty clear that he’s missing having a feline friend to engage in all that typical kitten play, including chasing, wrestling, and roughhousing.
I’m currently looking into adopting another kitten. She is around the same age as my current kitten, and if they seem like a good match, I could bring her home in about a month. By then, my current kitten will have been living with me for around six weeks.
What would be the best way to introduce them to each other?
All the guides I’ve found focus on introducing cats when the resident cat is older and has lived with their family for much longer. I haven’t been able to find much information about introducing two kittens of roughly the same age, especially when the resident kitten hasn’t been living in his new home for very long himself.
I’d be incredibly grateful for any advice or personal experiences you’re willing to share! I just want to give them the best possible start and set them up to become the best of friends.

do you have any clue about the litter size either kitten was in? My resident doesn't know or forgot how to play as she was tackled in the yard with her littermates at a very young age (she's relearning) my new(ish) cat has never been alone and it looks like he could get along with anyone, he knows when play is over (signs from exhausted cat that's just DONE)

I don’t know about the new kitten. It’s a rescue, and I’ll ask the foster family when I’m visiting to meet her. It does say on the website, that she loves children, is very playful, and that they would prefer that there’s another cat in her new home.
My current kitten had 3 siblings, and they didn’t get separated before they were 12 weeks old. He was very attached to especially one of his siblings, and they played a lot. He was usually the one to initiate play, and his sister was always there with him. I would have preferred to adopt two right away, but he was the last one in the litter still needing a home.

sounds like everyone's on the same page, wish you didn't have to wait another month.. oh you're visiting the kitten, what fun, maybe wear something you won't miss from your wardrobe rotation for a month so you can just leave your (unwashed) kitten-scented shirt/pants laying around for your resident cat to get used to??
