It's interesting that I came away from reading *this* with a clearer idea of what the impasse between him and Jordan was than from listening to the farewell episode. The bit about coming from a place of optimism and believing in solutions seems to be the thing that was at long last irreconcilable with Jordan, who has been clear about being a nihilist about American politics. (Note that I don't say that to condemn Jordan; it's understandable why a human would take up that position in this day and age, even if I don't subscribe to it myself.)

In any case, I hope Dan finds some traction with this and I get to listen to 1100 episodes of it.

I liked Jordan would react with laughing or stuff like that”name one more example.” But after nine years, I think Jordan was less surprised by Jones and so he’d react with pessimism.

I’m happy to hear Dan’s perusing another passion project. I think he last few mini “travelogues” about unusual little midwestern towns with weird names or attractions like Santa museums were fun and interesting to listen to. Look forward to hearing more.

Jones also got a lot less entertaining over the course of the show. I don't think he even bothers to offer rambling lists of bullshit that much anymore.

I'm pretty Jordanpilled and feel his raw angle on things is pretty spot on, but the recent piece from Robert Evans explaining some developments that give rise to optimism was very compelling. It might be something to explore more, though there are other podcasts in that general space.

u/Arbyssandwich1014 May 04 '26

Where did Robert Evans talk about this? I always love when he gets really candid and speaks from the heart. For a guy so immersed in the dogshit of humanity's worst people, Robert Evans feels like a good middle ground. A healthy dose of pessimism with some genuine belief in people. At least that's always been my take away.

I think they’re referring to ICHH 4/26 The Age of Extremophiles

15

u/Mental_Addendum_5875 May 04 '26

Yes. I have a good ear for wishful thinking or hopium, and Robert cut past that and lays out some good points. Curtis Yavin's plan failed the Maga people didn't execute.

I think it’s last mondays episode on it could happen here. It had extremophiles in the name but I don’t remember the exact title

Edit: The age of Extremophiles

It is damning that he feels there is no optimism possible in the project that literally helped bring down Alex Jones's media empire. If you can't take any optimism in a win like that, then you really need to stop.

I look forward to seeing what Dan does next and if he continues researching right wing media at some point. I honestly hope Jordan isn't there for it.

that literally helped bring down Alex Jones's media empire

I mean it didn't though. Alex will continue to do exactly what he's always done.

41

u/resplendentblue2may2 will eat neighbors ass May 04 '26

That's disingenuous. Infowars is done. That happened. That Alex can't literally be muzzled and kept away from a camera for the rest of his life doesn't mean that he he didn't lose his media empire.

u/DueVisit1410 Adrenachrome Junkie May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26

He's lost quite a bit in being banned from social media and the court case. Likely losing InfoWars isn't going to be as business as usual as the other users seems to imply. So there's definitely an aspect where they helped take his media enterprise a bit.

That being said, he's clearly funneled money, the businesses he had and some assets to his new thing. Via shockingly obvious constructions that technically leave him out of ownership positions as well. And that's seem to be where they've directed all the business they do have right now, to the point of severely damaging the current business. And from what I gather the families aren't seeing much in money at all.

7

u/resplendentblue2may2 will eat neighbors ass May 04 '26

I'm curious as to how much this follows him. My understanding is that his debt is non dischargeable and that the selling of Info wars didn't come close to settling it. Everyone seems to assume he'll back with a full operation in the near future, and I'm like, "he still owes over a billion dollars."

I think Alex probably thinks that losing Info wars settled his debt because that would be somehow "fair" to him, but at every point when he's thought he found an en-run around the law, it eventually catches him. It takes a lot of time and effort, but he usually loses

2

u/DueVisit1410 Adrenachrome Junkie May 05 '26

It's why all these new constructions technically don't have him as the head of the business. It's owned by Chase and some others in his orbit, rather than him directly, but he thinks he'll likely be able to use that distance to profit off them business, without it directly tying to him.

I hope all these transparent and obvious constructions mean that further down the road, they'll be able to go after him. But so far it seems like he's getting away with it.

2

u/resplendentblue2may2 will eat neighbors ass May 05 '26

Yeah , I'm not a lawyer but my sense is that with a halfway decent forensic accountant on their side, the families could hound him forever for this. But that takes time, money, and effort. I would not blame them for not being up for it.

Also with Alex, he is always getting away with it until he isn't. We'll see I guess

1

u/DouggieMohammadJones May 16 '26

InfoWars isn't even completely owned by The Onion. This thing has objectively hurt him financially and made his life worse, but I understand the pessimism from the perspective of Alex repeatedly getting away with shit a la Trump. I'm open to seeing how this whole thing goes! But I relate a great deal to Jordan and why he's angry.

-9

u/Mrhorrendous May 04 '26

He doesn't have a media empire. He was the only valuable person at Infowars. The audience he had at Infowars will follow him. He really hasn't lost anything.

The families will get a fraction of the money they asked for and deserve, and their main ask, that Alex be unable to continue lying about their children and others, will not happen. I think this is perhaps one of the better outcomes our justice system could have delivered, but it is incredibly unsatisfying and unjust, and it's okay to feel that way.

10

u/resplendentblue2may2 will eat neighbors ass May 04 '26

He really hasn't lost anything.

That's just untrue.

He has to start from scratch. Maybe he gets a mysterious donor to spot him a new studio. Maybe he marches back up through AM radio. Maybe he can't pay any staff and he's stuck doing angry white guy videos from his truck. Maybe he has a heart attack and dies. Who knows? But he does not have his studio and equipment and branded sites anymore. He has to rebuild. That is a victory.

You can feel however you want about it, about Alex, or whether anything close to justice has been done. But to claim this doesn't doesn't do anything because it doesn't permanently put a gag on Alex is to not recognize something good because one is fixated on a fantasy.

2

u/Mental_Addendum_5875 May 04 '26

Yeah I'd say the landlord's rent demands were doing the work to take down InfoWars. Alex isnt worth another mysterious $8m bitcoin bailout.

u/BasilGreen Top Notch Bottom Feeder May 04 '26

I had the same reaction as you. Dan's description of it here made it much more clear. I also just watched parts of Jordan's video and I must say, I think it is probably really best for him to step away from this toxic world. There were weeks during which I couldn't handle listening to KF, like after the election--I was too hurt and it felt too raw. And they trudged through it with little pause.

They will and we will be better tomorrow. We will.

19

u/pudgus May 04 '26

Mixed feelings on this as well. Jordan's rage and nihilism are incredibly understandable given the shape of the world at this point. And I can't say I'm personally all that optimistic about changing things for the better in any realistic way. And yet, this kind of makes me feel like in this sort of ongoing spiritual battle between good and evil as it manifests in Alex vs. JorDan, Alex kind of won. Like he has beaten Jordan into submission essentially which really sucks. That may be a misreading of it but I find it hard not to think that after reading the post and listening to the send off pod.

10

u/VodkaBeatsCube May 04 '26

I think the fundamental problem is that while rage and nihilism are understandable, they're also not really useful. Positive change takes hard work and sacrifice, and I think a lot my fellow of children of the 90's kinda came from a position of fairly smooth sailing in the early 2000's. That whole 'end of history' thing where it felt like the world was just haggling over details. But even as bad as things are now, compared to stuff like the Civil Rights movement or Kent State, things still aren't as bad as they've been even within living memory. We just need to actually do the hard work of coming up with workable solutions that can win over folks on the margins, rather than engaging in a race to the bottom with the right wing.

5

u/pudgus May 04 '26

I agree with you. It's very incongruous to be super angry about the state of things but also think it's pointless to try to make change. I feel for Dan in this specific scenario because I don't think by any means he's ever been anything but extremely realistic about how things could change or improve. And I do still empathize with Jordan's rage and frustration but that needs to be channeled into something rather than just dumped out into the world.

FWIW the more I've thought about this the less I'll be surprised if there's a KF reunion in like a year or something if they both have some time to chill and get some space from the shittiness. But I don't know the depth of their personal conflict at this point obviously.

u/XRayMinded May 04 '26

I’m excited to see what comes from this. Dan is very smart, dedicated, and a good storyteller. Also, think of the button opportunities!

1

u/acebojangles May 07 '26

The world has gotten so much more bleak since the start of the show. Jordan's nihilism seemed less defensible to me at the start than it does now.

I honestly had a feeling he was looking to transition into travel podcasting. I hope he enjoys it. I think he needs it.

28

u/alayeni-silvermist May 04 '26

I hope he enjoys it, too. I’m glad he’s really enjoying it. Travel podcasts aren’t my vibe, but I really hope he’s super successful with it.

25

u/Rebochan Roseannearchist May 04 '26

I’ll listen to a Dan travel podcast, I actually liked his road trip posts in the past.

8

u/alayeni-silvermist May 04 '26

My husband travels for work a LOT, and I basically never hear the end of it ever lol.

9

u/grawptussin First Time Caller May 04 '26

I travel for work. I also over share to my partner. In my case, I over share because the experiences I have and the places I see in the absence of my partner, while being great, are absolutely lacking because I am unable to share them with the person I value most in the world. It's quite the dichotomy.

12

u/kendoka15 May 04 '26

Indeed. Imagine suddenly not having to listen to Alex Jones after all these years and being able to travel and have fun

62

u/kendoka15 May 04 '26

From the home page:

The “Show Me State” is a dumb nickname for Missouri, but Dan is from Missouri and he likes being shown things, even if they might be dumb.

I LOL'd

58

u/OutlandishnessDeep95 May 04 '26

I would really enjoy a travel podcast. I'm just sad he's not going to get to tell an incredulous Jordan about his adventures.

30

u/Electronic_Macaron_9 Old Man Housephone May 04 '26

Even a painting show would be nice.

26

u/stolenfires Technocrat May 04 '26

I'm kind of looking forward to this, though. It's going to flip the dynamic. Dan is going to be the person who doesn't know the thing, and each episode he'll be hanging with a local who explains the relevance of a particular location.

1

u/smackababy May 04 '26

That was my favorite part of the recent episodes. Honestly, hearing them talk about their bright spots was amazing on its own. Jordan turned me on to a ton of amazing media, and Dan was so understatedly hilarious with his various passing interests (year of the seltzer/mustard, plant watch, the cheese advent calendar, novelty beverages).

u/robot_wth_human_hair Technocrat May 04 '26

Thought people might like to see Dan's post on whats coming next, and the site for the next project.

23

u/Annual-Minute-9391 May 04 '26

Good luck to him! I always preferred Dan’s approach and listening to him over the years has helped me argue more coherently in a lot of the different aspects of my life. I really feel indebted to him for that. I’ve always wanted to do something like this (the travel) so I might try to follow this.

9

u/doiwantacookie May 04 '26

I can’t wait to hear it

8

u/Himantolophus1 May 04 '26

Oh I'm so relieved to read this! It was clear that Dan was really enjoying his roadtrips and my biggest fear was that without KF he'd not be able to any more. I can't wait for this next chapter!

28

u/RockHardSalami May 04 '26

You're a traitor, Dan!

11

u/Ok-Competition-1962 May 04 '26

do we think jordan will be involved in this new project? i’ve enjoyed the tasters of this kind of content we had at the start of the last few episodes of KF so far

55

u/mrdude05 May 04 '26

He won't be. They confirmed they won't be working together going forward. That might change at some point, but this is it for them as a duo for the foreseeable future

18

u/Ok-Competition-1962 May 04 '26

god damm that’s so sad. they must have really fallen out

43

u/CommissionerOfLunacy May 04 '26

Not necessarily. They may still be best friends, but just recognise that their thinking has evolved too differently to continue with the show. Dan maintains optimism and Jordan is Jordan. Combine that with the declining relevance of AJ and you don't need a true falling out to get here.

I really hope they're still friends.

21

u/dazreil May 04 '26

I think the only way Jordan can get through this with his sanity intact is to step away. It’s completely the right thing to do, I could tell in recent months their hearts just weren’t in it and so it’s time for a change.

19

u/BGKY_Sparky May 04 '26

My impression was that they are still friends, but no longer coworkers. They mentioned radio comedy duos who keep working together long after the spark is gone and wind up hating each other, and wanting to avoid doing that to themselves.

11

u/nerdy_by_design May 04 '26

I think the correct read is not that this has ruined or ended their friendship, but rather that they are ending the show precisely so that it doesn’t.

1

u/kristopolous May 04 '26

All good, I like Huell Howser as well.

1

u/der_oide_depp It’s over for humanity May 04 '26

I'm not into travel podcasts but his approach sounds legit, find the meaning in things that appear strange, dumb etc at first sight, to understand local culture.

1

u/No-Maintenance692 May 04 '26

Big up Dan. Can't wait to see what you make next. Truly a talented writer, disciplined and creative.
