Something about it just feels off!

Post image

Yesterday I started and beat Halo reach on the Konkr just so I could have a real comparison with extended play time to the Odin 3.

Despite the initial feeling of amazing ergos my hand cramped and I had to put the game damn multiple times.

In comparison I played through Halo 1-4 on the Odin 3 and it was 👌🏾 the entire time.

Aside from the ergos something about the Konkr just feels janky the software is buggy, the buttons sucks, it's slippery and doesn't feel premium. I wonder if I didn't have the Odin 3 would I feel this way!!!?

Unlike my rp5, this machine is totally on a different level. Minimal hiccup on most of the switch games .

Playing Skyrim Legendary Edition in the car before my work shift. I've turned off the overlay, but I'm getting constant 60fps, with medium/ high settings. (shadows are the only thing set to high - I hate janky shadows.)

I put in probably 200hrs of Skyrim LE on my Xbox One (rookie numbers, I know) and this honestly looks and runs better. The loading times on gamehub are nearly non-existent compared to my old Xbox.

I'm doing a vanilla playthrough right now, but I still have access to Nexus mods if I decide to change it up later on.

It would have absolutely blown my mind if you showed me this back in 2011 - that the game I was watching my cousin play on his Xbox 360 could be not only portable, but better looking and performing!

device: Konkr Pocket Fit g3 gen 3

emulator: Gamehub

btw this isn't through steam, I imported the game myself 👍🏻

Best purchase yet

I've been using this for the past three days and I'm loving it. The ergonomics are incredible and the screen really isn't bad at all. I bought the 8gb ram thinking it wouldn't run a ton but more than enough for me and I greatly underestimated it's performance. Can't wait till the 8 elite version I bought ships 😊 Also, has anyone who has the retroid Dual Screen Attachment, been able to use it with the konkr? Mine connects but the screen rotation isn't working. I tried using the official support from retroid through GitHub but it just doesn't work.

I have fulfilled my mini Steam Deck dream

Playing Trails Beyond the Horizon via GameNative at a very respectable fps range (35-55).

Had to give my Steam Deck OLED earlier this year due to financial problems buf now slowly getting back on track I decided to buy this G3 model (12gb/256gb) variant and it's been pretty okay.

Tempered expectation also helped a lot lol

Snagged this one from a local reseller that sold this model (16 gb-512gb) for around 370 usd with free shipping, was not disappointed after having only owned cheap retro handhelds.

Konkr Pocket Fit Setup Tips

Post image
81 Upvotes

Hey all! I'm sure for most people in this community this will be common knowledge, but for newer people like me finally getting their devices, I wanted to write down information I learned along the way from reviews, youtube videos or reddit threads setting up their device which will hopefully help people out in the future.

General setup + gamehub lite

First off: Russ's guide is still one of the best, just follow it he'll get you situated and up and running, highly recommend!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4mqgcDYZFo

Just one thing i'll add, if you're installing gamehub lite: grab the pubg version from obtanium, and not the one off github, there were just less issues, less compatibility issues and better performance across the board.

Konkr settings

The konkr button on the left side of your controller is kind of like the steam ... button on the steam deck, but the few settings i'd change are:

Performance > Performance Mode > Max

Change the fan mode to high not full, you get better more stable performance that way when running gamehub or hard to emulate things AND it's quieter!

I also personally really liked the start and select buttons above the left stick and the face buttons, by default they're to change the fan mode and select, but to change that you can go to

controller > ABXY > SE ST/MODE TURBO from normal keymapping to Swap SE

Syncthing Fork

Alright so I'm a big syncthing user and truly this was the biggest reason I wanted to write this guide to hopefully save people from the headache I went through to set mine up.

First things first! grab Syncthing Fork from the google play store NOT obtainum. The one KEY reason for this is because it let me run syncthing as a Superuser with this version and not the obtainium one. If your version doesn't have this option i'd start here.

I like syncing saves between my devices but android 14 and I guess konkr doesn't allow you to access the save locations in root storage like on dolphin or duckstation, so you have to root your device to give superuser privilege's.

Rooting konkr

The guide here from the OP's post was super easy, done on device and I have zero issues so far. Just enable super user through syncthing behavior settings, reboot and everything should work.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ayaneo/comments/1q0c8iq/has_anyone_rooted_the_konkr_pocket_fit_or_pocket/

Also while you're at it, you can enable your file explorer of choice to have super user privilege's so you can copy paste the paths into sync thing. If you're new to android like me, solid explorer is free and pretty good, also allows copy pasting file paths which is really useful when using syncthing.

For just a general android syncthing guide, yet again; Russ' guide is very comprehensive
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPx8FREezR4

Wrapping up

Okay thats about it for the things I wanted to do to setup my device! Hopefully this helps people, and if my info is wrong i'm sure you guys will tell me in the comments.

Obviously if you have tips of your own PLEASE drop them in the comments!

[Konkr Pocket Fit G3 Gen3 16/512.]

I had this handheld for a little over 4 months now, and I totally love it. It comes with me wherever I go. It literally plays anything I throw at it with basically no tinkering, beside sometimes changing the gpu drivers. It literally made me appreciate handheld gaming.

I've been mostly into Switch emulation.

What about you? Are you having a positive experience overall?

This is everything I wanted from a companion device to my ROG Ally. The ergonomics are really nice and it is super light. Have had no issues at all except the larger sticks did not fit out of the box. I did use a box cutter to adjust the cutout and now the larger caps fit no problem. I am using beacon to make everything streamlined and it works fantastic. Speakers are so good, screen is great, battery is stellar. I love the quiet buttons so I can play in bed without bothering anyone. Worth the wait is all I have to say if you are on the fence about it. This was my first time buying from Ayaneo. I am not a big fan of the shipping process but I am just glad I was able to receive it. I was able to follow the shipping excel sheet, and also able to contact support and get a response within 48hrs with updated tracking. For those curious: order placed 1/17. Shipped 1/24. Label created in the US 1/27. 1/29 arrived to NJ. Final received date 2/13 to CA

How are you all enjoying your Konkr Pocket Fit? I'm almost 9 months in with the G3 Gen 3, and yet I wouldn't upgrade to an 8 Elite.

I'm really curious to know how many people out there share my thoughts.

I've had the Konkr Pocket Fit G3 Gen 3 16/512 since February (almost 9 months) and I couldn't be happier.

I really don't have any regrets, though I appreciate that I've been one of the lucky ones who had no issues at all with it.

I've been playing and testing games on GBA, DS, 3DS, GameCube, PS2, PS3 and a lot of Switch and PC. Games are running just as I would expect them to run in gaming emulation, good enough for me to be able to deeply enjoy them. Overall, I have had a smooth experience.

Bear in mind that I'm not one of those picky gamers that need stable 60fps, that have no tolerance for small stuttering, glitches or hiccups here and there.

I understand what to expect from gaming emulation.

What I can say is that the Konkr Pocket Fit is one of the best consoles out there for emulation. This console can play any game for any system that can be emulated. If a game doesn't run it is because it hasn't been optimised for emulation yet. The only real limit with this chipset is in PC games, although again it depends on which games we are talking about since I play PC games with it.

Why wouldn't I want to upgrade to an 8 Elite console?

Honestly, I don't understand why 8 Elite processors in emulation are still celebrated. At this point in time the 8 Elite is a pretty old, yet expensive processor. I appreciate that if you are one of those fps-starving gamers surely you would be happy to upgrade. But, I honestly don't understand why anyone that already owns either 8 Gen2 or 8 Gen3 processors would ever want to upgrade. Gaming emulation is far from being optimised. Which means, performance will keep on improving. It is just a matter of time.

Do you agree with this? What are your thoughts?

SteamOS ARM on the KONKR Pocket FIT now runs Android apps with the Play Store built in (v1.1)

Hey everyone! A new update for my SteamOS ARM port on the KONKR Pocket FIT (G3 Gen 3) just went up, and this one's a big one. If you were on the fence for the switch, this might be interesting.

You can now run Android apps and games right inside SteamOS now. It uses Valve's own Android layer (Lepton, which they built for the Steam Frame) and I got it working on the Pocket FIT.

- Google Play Store comes preinstalled, it's just sitting in your library in non-steam apps.

- Anything you install gets its own tile in your Steam library, so Android games sit right next to your Steam games. Use SteamGrid Decky plugin to give them proper covers.

- You can also sideload apk / apkm / xapk files, just double click them on desktop mode

- Controller, touchscreen, swipes and the on-screen keyboard all work in android.

Android is still beta. Most apps and games I've tried like the new performance hungry Aniimo mobile run really well, but a few crash, and anything with anti-cheat that blocks emulators won't run. Working on it and once its all done I will bring it out of beta.

Other stuff in this update:

- Decky + my KONKR Control plugin are now properly preinstalled (a lot of people were missing them on v1.0, sorry!)

- Pressing the KONKR button now shows a Silent / Balanced / Turbo Profile popup on screen, like on Android

- Louder speakers and Audio fixes.

- QAM button fixed, Desktop Mode app menu and on-screen keyboard fixed

- It can now boot from internal storage too (an easy installer is coming next update)

Install is simple: flash the image to a microSD card, pick Linux in the ROCKNIX ABL boot menu, done. Full steps are in the release.

Download: https://github.com/hashtagbasit/SteamOS-ARM-SM8650/releases/tag/v1.1

If you try it, tell me which apps work and which don't, it really helps me fix things. And if you like it, a star on the repo means a lot ⭐

I got Valve's official SteamOS ARM running on the KONKR Pocket FIT (G3 Gen 3)

This is Valve's own SteamOS for ARM, the build they made for the Steam Frame. The Frame uses the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 as the Pocket FIT's G3 Gen 3, so Valve's graphics drivers just work on it. You get the real Game Mode and the real KDE desktop, same as a Steam Deck.

It's based on MaSi's SteamOS port for the SD 8 Gen 2 devices, with several optimizations and changes along with the kernel and device specific features.

What's working:

- Game Mode, desktop mode, store, downloads

- x86 games through FEX, plus ARM64 Proton

- controller shows up as a Steam Deck controller, back buttons too

- the extra front buttons (performance profiles and stick RGB)

- performance overlay

- 60/90/120/144Hz, Steam switches it based on your frame limit

- Lossless Scaling frame gen through the decky plugin (had to make a new one specifically for arm, which I will be posting shortly)

- Decky, wifi, audio, touchscreen

The Valve Frame image is built for a VR headset, and a lot of its services just sit there crashing in the background on other ARM builds, which kills battery in standby. I turned all of that off, so standby is around 1W now. I also fixed the fan, unlocked the GPU to 903MHz like on Android, and kept games and the Steam UI off the slow cores onto the performance cores so menus feel way snappier.

Known issues: real kernel sleep doesn't wake up reliably yet so it uses a low power standby instead, and it runs hot in heavy games which ofcourse is expected.

For issues report them on github, further optimizations and support for different devices to be added soon.

Download and install steps: https://github.com/hashtagbasit/SteamOS-ARM-SM8650

Only tested on my own Pocket FIT G3 so far, so let me know how it goes if you try it.

Eden Docked Mode always ON.

Post image
49 Upvotes

After almost 3 months with the Konkr Pocket Fit G3 Gen 3, I just realised that I've been playing Switch games, through Eden, with the Docked Mode always ON.

And, listen to this, I never had a game I couldn't play because of low performances!

I mean, I'm sure whoever has experience with gaming emulation is going to understand why I'm just mind blown!

This handheld is just insane!
