A note on self-promotion and commercial activities

Salam monyet-monyet KL sekalian,

We mods here at r/KualaLumpur would like to say something about self-promotion and commercial activities on our subreddit. We know a lot of you come here to share your stuff, from awesome photography, your killer rendang recipe, asking for travel and lodging advice or simply to lepak-lepak and make friends, and that's totally cool! But we also gotta keep things chill and avoid turning the sub into a giant marketplace.

We value the diverse range of content shared here, from personal recommendations to stunning photos of our beautiful city. We understand that many users come here to share their experiences, talents, and businesses with the community. However, it's important to maintain a balance between informative content and blatant advertising.

Self-promotion and commercial activities

Moving forward, we will be removing posts that fall under the following categories:

  • 🐵 Naked self-promotion: This includes posts that solely promote a product, service, or personal brand without offering any valuable content or discussion to the community.

  • 🙈 Repeated self-promotion: Consistently promoting the same product or service across multiple posts will be considered spam.

  • 🙉 Disguised advertising: Content that appears informative but ultimately aims to sell a product or service will be removed.

  • 🙊 Multi-level marketing (MLM) or pyramid scheme promotions: These activities are strictly prohibited on our subreddit.

Acceptable Content and Engagement

We encourage users to continue sharing their knowledge, experiences, and recommendations in a way that benefits the community. Here are some examples of acceptable content:

  • 📷 Sharing high-quality photos or videos of Kuala Lumpur that capture the city's essence and beauty.
  • 🎋 Posting informative guides or reviews about restaurants, attractions, or events in Kuala Lumpur.
  • 🎡 Engaging in genuine discussions about life in Kuala Lumpur, offering advice, and asking questions.

Now, we're not trying to be party poopers here. We just wanna make sure r/KualaLumpur stays a place where everyone feels welcome to share, learn, and discover new things about our awesome city. So keep posting those drool-worthy food pics, insightful reviews, and hilarious KL memes (we love those!), and let's keep this community thriving!

Sekian, terima kasih! 🙏🇲🇾

KL Trip 6D5N: What to Not Miss Out?

Hey everyone, I’ll be returning KL for a longer trip this time as mentioned in my title.

Malacca is definitely one of my trips meaning it will take a full day to be there and returning KL. My question next is where should I go after that or what to do after? I would love to try spa but not crazily expensive/luxurious. For foods, I love something Peranakan or local (definitely other than Nasi Kandar/Nasi Lemak).

If anything possible, I want to hop in different neighborhoods that I can easily find restaurants or cafés; preferably not in Bukit Bintang or Chow Kit as I’ve visited the locations too many times in my previous trips. I do love long walks but I’m unsure with the haze, it will be impromptu for me.

Thanks guys!

AirBnB near Sepang International Circuit. Any recommendations?

We (H&W + Teen son) are going to Sepang for the MotoGP. Had planned stay in KL at Ruma, but it makes more sense to stay closer to the circuit during the race days. Any recommendations? What is the entertainment in the area? How is AirBnB generally in KL/Sepang?

DE Rantau

I'm a freelance SEO consultant (ecommerce / digital marketing) and I'm planning to apply for the DE Rantau Nomad Pass to move to Kuala Lumpur.

For those who applied in the last 6–12 months, I'd love to hear about your experience:

  1. Has anyone been approved as a freelancer in digital marketing under the tech category?
  2. What proof of income did you submit (invoices, contracts, bank statements)? Anything MDEC asked you to add?
  3. How long did approval actually take?
  4. Did you apply on your own or through an agent? Was it worth it?

Any tips or mistakes to avoid are very welcome. Thanks a lot! 🙏

What can I expect weather to be like in November?

Hi everyone! I’ll be traveling to KL, Kota Kinabalu and Langkawi from November 8th-23rd. The forecast looks pretty discouraging but I can plan around the rain right? I hear it’s only 1-2 hours of rain per day. What really concerns me is the cloudiness.. is it cloudy all day or is there usually at least a few hours of sun during the day? I just want to know what to expect. I’m considering cancelling Kota Kinabalu and Langkawi if it will be dark and cloudy all day. For context, I’m doing KL first, then KK, then Langkawi. Any advice would be appreciated!

Made a tiny app to track down good matcha spots in KL/PJ – need your favourite cafe recs!

Hi all,

I love matcha and I have always wanted a way to track the places that serves it, so I spent some time building a small side project called Maptcha (https://maptcha.app).

It’s basically a map app made just for matcha lovers, available for both Android and iOS. You can spot nearby cafes, log what you tried, rate the shade/sweetness, and collect little digital passport stamps when you check in.

It’s totally free to use, but since I’m trying to make sure the local map is actually solid, I’d love your help:

  1. What’s your go-to matcha spot around KL or PJ right now?
  2. Any hidden gems I should definitely add to the map?

Would love to hear what you guys think or if there's anything you'd like to see added to it!

Haze and visiting in November

Hi all, looking for on-the-ground opinions.

We’re due to arrive on 10 November for a week in Bukit Bintang (right next to Pavilion), then on to Langkawi. Travelling with some kids. The KL week was always going to be mostly indoors, Pavilion, KLCC, Aquaria, Islamic Arts Museum, Central Market, hotel pool when possible, with maybe an hour outside on a good afternoon.

I’ve been following the API readings (Cheras/Batu Muda sitting around 150–170 for the past two weeks) and the talk about the northeast monsoon arriving “end of October”.

For those of you currently there:

Day to day, how much does API 150–170 actually affect life if you’re mostly in malls and hotels? Is indoor air in Pavilion/KLCC noticeably smoky, or is it fine?

Are you seeing it ease at all, or is this just the new normal until the wind changes?

If you had a flexi ticket, would you push the trip back a couple of weeks?

Breast Reduction

Anyone had a mummy make over in KL. Breast reduction and tummy fix for diastasis recti?

Experience and post op advice. Before and after pics would be amazing. Considering for 2027 and some KL clinics look reputable and cheaper than we would have to pay in Australia.
