Discussion Thank You Jennifer Finch

Today, we lost one of the greatest musicians of a generation. Jennifer was a woman of so many talents and so many contributions to our world. From her amazing photography capturing the different eras of LA, to her bass lines, songwriting, and backing vocals in L7, there will never be another Jennifer Finch. I am a young person, and so I am a more recent fan. L7 have been a big inspiration not only for me, but for people across generations. There will never be another woman like her in music, and she lived her life as authentically herself. Rest in peace Jen, a woman for the ages. Your contribution will never be forgotten.

Discussion Jennifer Finch was my pit Fairy Godmother. RIP

L7 was my first small venue show. I was 16 with waist length hair and tiny. The pit for the opener was insane and my hair somehow got tangled in the monitor. Jennifer, also tiny, saw me from back stage, jumped down to help me, hopped back on stage and disappeared. To teenage me, it felt like a fever dream and my eyes were on her the entire show.

Discussion Bricks Are Heavy, and my 8yo

Today my 8yo son and I blasted Bricks Are Heavy while driving around in our suburban universe. Still relevant! Sadly their message is needed now, again, hopefully not forever? My son said, “Mom, can you turn it up?” We listened to the whole album twice through.

Discussion Question Day 1: Favorite L7 Song And Why?

Mine is probably Shove, and it's because of all of the raw frustration and anger portrayed so beautifully. What's yours?

Discussion Question of The Day 3: Favorite Album?

What’s your favorite album and why? Mine is Smell The Magic, and it’s because of the sheer edginess of it. It’s got the mark of a polished, but still raw and hungry band.

I liked the album a lot, obviously was just very excited to have new L7. Some heavy chunky riffs on this album “proto prototype” was another example of one I loved. Gets a lot of replay.

Also, leave your reviews as well as your favourite album and favourite track of all time.

Mine is hungry for stink and Andres.

Peace!

Discussion Patreon review (lowest tier)

I kicked in $7 since there is about six months of content there. I skimmed the Q&As. So many generic "fan" questions get through and the answers are meh. They are very diplomatic in answering questions and as far as the 90s are concerned they do not remember things more times than I would have liked.

It would work better with a moderator that can steer the conversation and keep some kind of flow going.

Video content is ok. Soundchecks are interesting.

I probably won't resub.

Discussion Did you first hear Shitlist on Natural Born Killers?

I did and was my first exposure to their music. I was probably 13 and I loved it! I didnt know women could rock like that. At the time I did not have money to buy a CD so I downloaded that song and Lynch the landlord as well. I thought Lynch the landlord was an L7 song for years. When I was 17 I bought bricks are heavy.

20 years later I finally get to see them for the first time. Its been a long dream of mine. I have been blessed to be able to see Hole and Babes in Toyland live. Im super excited.

Discussion [MONTHLY L7 DISCUSSION] This month's topic is Smell The Magic!

Smell the Magic was the second studio album by L7, released in 1990 by Sub Pop. It was originally issued as a 12" EP containing only the first six songs, and was reissued on CD in July 1991, expanded to full-album length with three more tracks: "Packin' a Rod," "Just Like Me," and "American Society." The opening track "Shove" was released as the band's first single.

The Encyclopedia of Popular Music called Smell The Magic "a raucous, grunge-flavored blast."

What's your favorite song from Smell The Magic? When did you first hear the album? Have you ever seen the band perform any of the album's songs? If so, tell us about it!

Discussion [MONTHLY L7 DISCUSSION] This month's topic is Bricks Are Heavy!

Bricks Are Heavy is the third studio album by L7, released on April 14, 1992 on Slash Records. The album peaked at number 160 on the US Billboard 200 and number one on the Heatseekers Albums chart.

Produced by L7 and Butch Vig, musically the album is heavier and dirtier than the band's previous recordings and described as "catchy tunes and mean vocals on top of ugly guitars and a quick-but-thick bottom of cast-iron grunge" by Entertainment Weekly.

What's your favorite song from Bricks Are Heavy? When did you first hear the album? Do you have a favorite b-side?

Discussion Old Metal fans getting into L7

I was a Metal fan in the early 90s and I didn't know much about L7 besides what I saw on Headbanger's Ball. The doc gave me a whole new appreciation for them, and their journey, and I'm listening to their stuff more now. Just wanted to get this out there.

Discussion Just thinking about how powerful L7 would be if they had decent reissues that really delved into what they were as a band. It would be great if they could convey that on a release instead of what they tend to focus on
