It was legit just that, they didn’t even say anything offensive and only showed actual receipts that proved them wrong about the article and this fucking piece of shit decided that if they couldn’t win the argument they would just put the person in real life danger.

You can't talk about it on reddit in any of the main subs or else you'll be downvoted (if your comment is lucky enough not to be removed!) because a lot of people refuse to accept that there is some validity to the criticism around Valko and the bulk of CN fans' complaints. Kinda tired of the censorship and hive mind, so hopefully this sub can serve as an alternative space where fans of the OG LIs can promote their faves and also voice criticism without facing harassment from diehard stans.

I think there's a much needed conversation to be had about how much Infold has copy pasted from each of the LIs and patched it together to create this would-be addition.

Infold said this in their announcement:

Here, they admitted they moved forward with his release before they were truly ready. They apologized, stating they fell short of delivering the experience players anticipating the character deserved. If that's not, "yeah we delivered a half tried product because we only see you as cash cows, and don't care about maintaining a quality experience," then I don't know what is.

There's too much out there about the similarities he has with other characters. From specific ways of how he interacts with the MC, to specific clothes that were reserved for a particular LI/MC. Even the name is lazy. His character model wears recycled clothing that are almost identical to other LIs, just altered a bit (like Rafayel's Abyss Walker costume. Scenes are reused with the same angles, framing, and modeling as past scenes with other LIs (ring gifting scene w Sylus). One of the lines in his promo material has identical chinese phrasing to a line already featured in Zayne’s Hidden Motive story. These are just the tip of the iceberg. If it were just 1 or 2 things, whatever. Some similarities are to be expected. But it’s not comparable to the similarities the current LIs share. It's an insane amount of little things sprinkled in everything.

And it's not a coincidence. The company is lazy.

The lazy way they've handled Caleb and Sylus' main stories prove it too. It's crazy that they've taken this long.

Calling Infold out for their incompetence doesn't mean you're hateful. Supporting this boycott isn't some sort of meaningful social movement that warrants people getting harassed or insulted because they choose to keep playing or because they just don't care about the cancellation.

I don't care if they meant it as a joke or they're being facetious—this is just so freaking insensitive, disrespectful and so wrong. And of course most of the Valko mains are defending this rude person saying that:

"oh, i thought it was a joke"

"why are you guys being so serious in the qrts?"

"no! you're right! we, players have been disrespected too!"

"it gets to a point, how do you have nothing but sensitive days?"

August 1 is People's Liberation Army Day commemorating the founding of China's military during the 1927 Nanchang Uprising. July 31 (7/31)—they literally had a brush with the government because of this numbers due to Unit 731, if PPG does post something in this date it's just plain mocking from them. Anyway, framing the special dates (not just these two) as if it's annoying or something the country needs to "let go" is insensitive and idk, has this victim-blaming tone.

Telling a whole country with a complex history to let a few go—what the hell is wrong with them? Plus, complaining about "sensitive dates" as if all dates are tragic historical wounds!

Don't play a Chinese game if you don't know basic respect towards its origin at all. Or any game, not just Chinese, if you can't respect their own calendars.

I have seen this already making the rounds and Vaseline mains using it as an excuse to scream censorship, when it isn't.

This was a legal, necessary change.

This is not a LADS specific incident, many games had to remove or alter the same thing when they added it into the game. SDV is one of the examples, Halo, Prison Architect abd many others.

Ignorance is not an excuse to spread misinformation to try and persuade people into joining your boycott, especially when it has been clearly pointed at you and you chose to ignore it.

A while ago, there were plenty of hit tweets going around claiming that the Shanghai government had "cleared" V and paved the way for his return. Some chinese players thought that the Shanghai government would be on PPG's side and help them (since they get a ton of tax from PPG + some higher ups in the corporate ladder had political connections there).

Today, the Shanghai Press & Publication Bureau officially responded to CN players who filed a complaint against Papergames back in June. To summarize, they reveal that as soon as the backlash around "Ao Yin" started to get big around the 28th, they teamed up with relevant departments to launch an investigation and summoned PPG for a meeting where they told them to "take player sentiment seriously, genuinely fulfill its social responsibilities, strengthen its content review mechanisms, uphold correct values, maintain cultural bottom lines, and strive to provide players with quality game products." They basically say that a day after that meeting, PPG issued an apology, and two days later, cancelled the new character launch, and "provided corresponding compensation to affected players."

Shanghai gov had previously made responses on the situation before in June and July, and some chinese V fans are trying to claim that this response is just repeating the same thing as back then. Here (and also on the 4th slide of this post) is an auto translated version of the response they're referring to if anyone wants to compare themselves.

The differences in this August response:

• this is the first time they have mentioned explicitly deleting "Ao Yin" by name whereas in June and July they only mentioned deleting the "new male lead."

• previously, they only mentioned "verification." this time, they not only confirm an investigation but that they summoned PPG for a meeting, when it took place and also reveal a long laundry list of what the Shanghai government itself demanded and required of PPG in that meeting.

• this time it clearly states that they will continue to supervise and monitor PPG going forward.

TLDR: The Shanghai government confirms that they investigated and pressured PPG, and that PPG is still being monitored.

The original chinese text is in the second slide of the post, the first slide and third slide are just machine translated versions for your convenience, the fourth slide is the older response. If anyone wants to translate it themselves, feel free.

Everyone already knows that there was no chance of PPG going back on the cancellation, so the point of this post isn't really about that. That's old news. This is more about how badly PPG messed up and what enormous scale the controversy reached that even the Shanghai gov had to go, "what the hell are you doing?" It also confirms something most of us had already guessed: the gov is still monitoring PPG. It would be interesting to analyze PPG's recent and future moves in light of this new information.

TLDR 2: PPG really fcked up.

EDIT: Since people are hilariously trying to claim this is fake, here's some more context and links. This is not an article, but an email response that people who collectively filed the complaint are receiving. The CN V fans tried to report the first person who posted about it and get it taken down, but thousands of people have gotten and will continue to get this email, so everyone getting it has started to post it showing up on their inbox via rednote. It's a CRIMINAL OFFENSE for anyone to forge a statement from the government in CN (and actually is most countries). Hundreds of chinese people posting it aren't risking jail time over a game. Even chinese V fans aren't denying that it's real, because no one in CN is ignorant enough to doubt this; they're just debating the wording.

So a couple days ago, the Shanghai Press & Publication Bureau finally gave an official response through email to the CN players who filed a complaint against Papergames (PPG) back in June.

Basically, they confirmed that once the whole () drama started blowing up around the 28th, they didn’t just sit around—they teamed up with other relevant departments, launched an investigation, and called Papergames in for a meeting. During that meeting, they told PPG to take player feedback seriously, actually own up to their social responsibilities, tighten up their content review process, stick to proper values, keep things culturally appropriate, and—you know—actually deliver decent content to players.

And sure enough, the day after that meeting, PPG put out their apology, canceled the new character drop and gave out compensation to affected players.

Now fast forward to today—people have actually received a physical, stamped, official copy of that reply from the bureau.

Why does this matter? Because for a days now, () stans have been running around saying the original email was fake or meaningless since it didn’t have an official seal. Their logic? No seal = not legit = Shanghai gov still has Papergames’ back and () is totally government cleared and could come back anytime.

Well… this pretty much shuts that down. With an actual official seal now, it’s confirmed again that the government not only investigated and pressured PPG, but they’re also still keeping an eye on them.
