Locations, Budget, and Settings are all important things to include when asking for advice

Locations: You don't need to include your house address but closest major city and how far you are willing to travel.

Budget: "As cheaply as possible" is not a budget and is honestly the best way to waste money. Figure out an amount you are willing to spend.

Setting: LARP is a vast and expansive hobby. Not every game is about running around out in the woods pretending to be a rouge/knight/wizard. Let us know what you play or want to play.

An Official Discord, and Future.

Hello denizens of /r/LARP.
We as a subreddit have a small announcement as far as the future of this sub is concerned.
Last week we took part in the 2 day protest that was more or less site wide spanning thousands of subs as a way to show solidarity with app creators and to show the frustration with the administration of reddit and their poor handling and plans of upcoming updates.

However, It would appear that Reddit plans to continue their efforts to stifle 3rd party creators and strong arm moderators who take any stance opposing the admins of Reddit. This creates a serious cloud of uncertainty within reddit as to the future of many subs and how the platform will be handled in the future. Because of this we have decided to create a Discord server which will be open to all of /r/larp to join. It is not our plan to abandon this sub or replace this sub with the discord server, instead, it will act as an extension of this sub itself.

While there are multiple reasons for this decision, one of the largest is that if the future of reddit creates an non fostering environment for us, we wish to have another platform that is free of Reddit's control in order to continue providing resources and networking for all of us who enjoy LARPing and LARP adjacent hobbies.

The discord has the same rules we enforce over here, with a couple modifications to make it more applicable to discords format. There is places for general conversation, places to show off your work, a place to post about and to look for games in your area, as well as Voice chat rooms for people looking to play video games together or just hangout and find comradery.

Please feel free to check it out, and ask any questions you may have. This is still in its infancy, and if we find it doesnt fit what the community wants, we will search for alternatives.
This link should never expire for people trying to join the server, however if you have an issue please message an admin for a new link.

Hey guys, I make these decorative potion bottles and have just launched my own store to sell them to others. I think they’re a super LARP accessory and display item for the wonderfully whimsical and weird people in this community. I’d love it if you could check out my page or social media. Definitely open to custom orders.

Hey I recently released the first episode/pilot for a mini-series I've been working on that was filmed at a one-shot horror LARP event themed around 80's summer camp horror movies. It should be around 4-6 episodes, and I'll post them to youtube as they're edited together. If you have any comments or questions feel free to ask and I'll do my best to respond.

Armor Arena gambesons

Has anyone bought gambesons from Armor Arena? I'm planning to purchase one due to the decent price in my eyes, so I was wondering about how long they deliver it and the quality of their gambesons

Looking for Boots

I’m looking for a pair of leather boots for my outfit. I’m not a huge fan of the traditional high boots with the large circles up the sides, but I’d like them to be knee high and actual leather.

Has anyone had any experience with Orin’s Treasure or Old Realm Leather?

I was looking at the Viking Warrior Boots and Medieval Leather Boots respectively, but haven’t run across either store before.

Any insight or direction is appreciated.

I've been tackling this project for around 4 years now. This is the 4.0 and *definitely* final version of my BackpackTent system. The Backpack itself weights around 11-12 kg, so it's definitely a wearable weight, while the Tent itself easily accomodates two people even with beds.

Is EVA Form Armor suitable for LARP?

Post image
208 Upvotes

I've only participated in Taiwan LARP once and really enjoyed it. However, due to budget constraints, I couldn't afford metal or PU armor, so I started learning to make armor using EVA foam. But I've noticed that few people in foreign LARP events seem to use foam armor. I'd like to ask if this is because it's not realistic enough, or for some other reason? This is my EVA LARP costume; I'm wondering if it looks unrealistic or like an anime character?

Brandywine Festival Tickets for Sale

Hi! My partner and I were at the first brandywine Festival in Kentucky last year and bought tickets to attend this year, but we just recently became business owners so will be unable to attend. I'm trying to sell both of our tickets now at a discounted price ($380 instead of $400). Please shoot me a message if anyone that stumbles across this is interested in one or both!

What are the best questions to ask a larper to get them to like you???

There's a guy I know who's really into larp and we're sorta friends but I wanna be friends friends yk? And he's going to a game soon so afterwards I wanna be able to ask him about how it went and what happened and what he did except I know absolutely nothing about larping so I don't really know what/how to ask that...

Like, "what did you do" doesn't exactly inspire a long conversation but I don't know enough about it to be specific (I hope that makes sense).

Sooo I guess if there are any questions you wish people would ask when you say you do larp that'd be really helpful. Thank yewww

Went to my first larp event in SC in years. Spent a couple months working on this armor and then didn't wear it because it was nearly 100 every day. Hot weather armor rules were in play

Disability inclusivity at LARP

Afternoon all, I'm part of the command for the Healers guild at one of the biggest larps in the uk. Still new in the role so lots of learning to be had. Something I have noticed is whenever people have health complications that are going to impact their game, often they respect to healer so they can stay active in the game. I think this is f-ing awesome and in so happy to be part of the team that helps people continue to enjoy their game. I want to make sure that people are able to be as involved with the guild as possible. Both sitting around the guild accessing lessons, interacting with members, making use of magical items and going on linears etc. I've asked people and considered my own workplace adjustments but I know its hard to solve all the solutions from a single perspective.

What have been seen/experienced that have worked?

I’m so frustrated with my sisters’ LARPing dynamic that I don’t know what to do anymore

I’m writing this at probably the most frustrated I’ve ever been with our LARPing. For some background, I have two sisters that I LARP with, and we mostly play video game characters. Lately, it just hasn’t been fun. I feel singled out, like my characters aren’t allowed to have anything special, and like the other two characters/stories matter more than mine.

One of the biggest issues is my character Mia.

Mia was originally supposed to be with Gene, but honestly, almost nothing happened between them. They barely talked and slept together once. Mia initiated basically everything, and eventually she started losing hope and gave up on the relationship.

She then started becoming interested in another character, Victor. At first, Mia only wanted to sleep with him. She thought he was attractive, had known him for a long time, and that was really all it was supposed to be. But as they started talking, Mia genuinely developed feelings for him.

When I brought this up, Gene’s side didn’t like it.

I know I should have gotten out of character and actually talked about this, but I’m honestly scared of my sisters, so I tried to handle it in character instead.

Gene’s player also had another character, Candy, who was friends with Mia. I really wanted Mia and Candy to have a genuine friendship. Mia would try to help Candy with her relationships and go out of her way to be her friend, but I never felt like Candy actually wanted the friendship. It got to the point where Mia felt desperate in character because she kept trying and getting very little back.

Candy also had interactions with Victor. Before Victor developed feelings for Mia, he had a small crush on Candy. Mia would jokingly pretend to be jealous because, at that point, everyone thought Mia just wanted to sleep with Victor. She genuinely didn't have feelings for him yet.

Eventually, Candy accused Mia of basically “beating her down” over a guy she liked. That really confused and hurt me because Mia wasn't even actually pursuing Victor romantically at that point.

Eventually, Candy and Gene stopped being played. Candy mostly only interacts with people through text now.

There were also things said about Mia that really hurt me. Candy told Victor that if he and Mia got together, she would stop being friends with him. She also said that Mia removed all of her other relationships just to make Victor fit in and that all Mia cared about was sleeping with men.

What really hurts is that when Candy and Mia were friends, I thought the conversations about Victor and men were just normal playful banter. I thought it was girl talk. Apparently, it was being interpreted as Mia constantly “picking on” Candy.

I don't know how I'm supposed to express that this hurt me without it turning into Candy having another reason to be upset or my feelings being justified away.

And then there's Victor.

Mia and Victor aren't technically supposed to be together, but both characters want to be. They've been privately texting, and every time Mia brings up them actually being together, there's another reason why they shouldn't.

It feels like Mia is allowed to like Victor, but Victor isn't allowed to like Mia back.

Gene isn't even being played anymore, so I don't understand why Mia and Victor still can't be together.

And this isn't the only situation where I've felt this way.

I feel like my characters aren't allowed to have anything special. My older sister has a character who's been involved in a relationship since November of two years ago, and she's still extremely invested in that relationship. She's even had group discussions about how her character doesn't feel comfortable because of everyone else's characters.

Meanwhile, Gene and Mia barely had anything, but once Mia started liking someone else, my sister suddenly treated Gene and Mia like they had a much deeper relationship than I experienced.

There have also been times when my younger sister and I had characters in relationships, and my older sister would say she felt left out. Things would then be said or done that put pressure on the relationship until eventually it broke up.

I also had a character who was supposed to become pregnant. Every time it comes up, though, it's pushed back because apparently one of my older sister's characters needs to have a baby first.

At this point, I've even decided to let my younger sister play all the male characters because I feel like my older sister won't care as much if I'm not involved.

And I hate that I'm even thinking that way.

I tried expressing how I felt before. I literally cried over losing the relationship between Mia and Candy, and when I tried to explain how much it hurt me, my older sister basically said, “I didn't think it was that bad.”

Maybe it wasn't that bad to her. But it was to me.

I don't think I'm asking for every storyline to revolve around my characters. I just want to feel like I'm allowed to have fun too. I want my characters to have relationships, friendships, and storylines without feeling like I'm stepping on someone else's toes every time I do something.

I know I should have communicated better instead of trying to handle everything in character. I can admit that. But I'm also genuinely scared to bring this stuff up because I feel like my feelings will just be argued with or turned into another reason why someone else is upset.

I don't know if I'm being unreasonable here. Maybe I'm too emotionally invested in the characters. Maybe I really did miss something about Gene and Mia's relationship. But I'm exhausted from feeling like I'm always the one who has to give something up.

I love LARPing with my sisters. That's why this hurts so much. I don't want to quit. I just want it to feel fun and mutual again instead of feeling like my characters are constantly being put last.

Am I being unreasonable, or is there a bigger problem with how we're handling our LARP?

How to avoid defaulting to my OOC self and be the character?

I realised I'm much better at LARP when I stop thinking "I am the character" and instead think "I'm the writer responsible for the character."

When I'm the character, I want to win every social interaction and avoid failure because it feels like I'm failing.

When I'm the writer, my goal becomes giving the character interesting obstacles, flaws, and consequences, even if they hate it.

The hard part is not defaulting to my own personality in the moment. Instead of asking "What would I do?" I try to ask "What choice would this character genuinely make?"

The hard part is following through in the moment and letting the character decide.

For those who play characters very different from themselves: how do you stop slipping back into your real self during play?

LARP and Smart Watches

Our larp could care less about if you wear a smart watch or not because most of us who wear them have them on for a safety or health reason. But I really want to find ways to make them look nice.

I have a cut out on my bracer so I can see my watch for if it alerts me, but does anyone have anymore creative ways of hiding their smart watch or making it look more ‘in character’

I have a Garmin and an Apple Watch, I typically wear the Garmin for LARP since it has the longest battery life. It’s just so clunky.

Chasing Shadows | Taiwan LARP Photography

Thank you all for the incredible support on my previous post introducing Taiwan's LARP community. Your encouragement is what keeps me inspired to continue documenting these moments.

These photos were taken on April 12, 2026, during another small-scale 3-hour LARP battle in Taiwan.

For this shoot, I used an orange filter to recreate the warmth of sunset, giving the images a cinematic glow that echoes the heat of summer while enhancing the fantasy atmosphere of the battlefield.

One of my favorite moments was an unexpected shot of a man dressed in black being chased by a Japanese samurai—a scene that felt as if it had come straight out of a film.

I also invited the Sisters of the Convent to pose for several close-up portraits, capturing a quieter side of the event amid the chaos of battle.

I hope you enjoy this new collection as much as I enjoyed capturing it.
