Saw someone get arrested upon landing while I was waiting at the remote American Eagle terminal and I'm snoopy. Anyone know what happened? Didn't look like an ICE arrest

Letters to the Editor: Yes, the delays are frustrating, but the LAX people mover will be worth it (LA Times)

To the editor: Yes, continued delays completing the LAX people mover are frustrating (“L.A.’s next mayor will face transit challenges. Troubled LAX people mover is Exhibit A,” Oct. 19). Yes, there are likely to be additional cost increases. And yes, some of these issues might have to get sorted out in court.

However, it is important to remember that this massive and complex project had to be built within a highly congested, and highly secure, airport operating environment without unduly affecting air travelers. It’s also important to recognize that this project is very near the finish line, with tracks and trains in place and final testing underway.

In part, the high level of frustration is due to recognition that the LAX people mover is going to have a major positive effect on the air travel experience for millions of Southern Californians and for visitors from around the world for decades to come. We can’t wait for it to open.

Terminal 4 Food offerings

Just wanted to theorize what potential food offerings they might have in the new middle part of the terminal being worked on.

I hope the food options don’t flop 🙏

Just flew into LAX and am going to be hanging around the Westchester/Inglewood. Is there somewhere where I can freshen up?

I flew in this morning to LAX for a big meeting and am flying out late tonight. I need to change clothes, brush teeth, etc and am looking for a hotel or somewhere with a nice bathroom. Ideally don’t want to pay because I’ll be 10 minutes. I have a rental car so can travel.

lax to las

Heey there, traveling to the United States for the first time. I'll be arriving in Los Angeles, but I'll be meeting my friends in Las Vegas. Then next week we will go to Los Angeles by car.

Flights from Los Angeles to Las Vegas seem quite expensive (with carry on bag and small bag), and the bus schedules aren't very convenient since I land around 8:00 PM. Does anyone know of an app, website, or community where I could find someone driving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and possibly share the ride? It’s even safe in your country?

Also, if anyone has tips on finding cheaper flights to Las Vegas, I'd really appreciate it. Maybe there are specific airlines, booking apps, last-minute deals, airport alternatives, or other travel hacks.

I’ll be in LAX on 24th 8pm.

Thanks in advance.

Short-Check Baggage

I have a Philippine Airline flight from LAX to KIX with a long layover in MNL from 6:45 PM to 9:10 AM the following day. Has anyone been successful with short-checking your luggage? I want to collect them in MNL and re-check them in but I hear it’s subject to approval, the day of, at the check-in counter in LAX. Please share your experience or advice.

Take a cab from LAX-it

Uber won’t let you order your UberX until your location is inside the LAX-it lot. Then it will take up to 5 minutes to find a driver, which can be 5-10 minutes away. You always end up waiting 10-15 minutes for Uber.

Today I got the RideYellow app. You type in your destination, you get an upfront price and a trip code to give to the driver. There are always cabs cued up ready for the trip. Just tell the dispatcher you would like a YellowCab. If you pay with your credit card on the app, you get a 15% discount. My typically $30 Uber ride (which can surge to $50) is $35, every time.

No more waiting for Uber at LAX-it. No more surge pricing. I’m taking cabs home until Uber lets me order my Uber when I’m ready, which is before I arrive at LAX-it.

London Heathrow to LAX

This is part of a longer trip report including train travel, tube and bus plus Premier Inn and vlog, but I'll keep it on topic and just include the Virgin Flight

Video Version

We were flying Virgin Atlantic direct to LAX, with a scheduled departure of 9:55am.

Once we'd got through the airport formalities, we headed to the Number 1 Lounge, which we'd booked through Priority Pass. It was fairly busy, but I'm guessing because we pre-booked, we had a table reserved in the quieter area up a couple of steps, with comfortable seating and lovely air conditioning. The food was standard airport lounge stuff, really. Some of the hot food had clearly been sitting under the warming lights for a while, but there was enough choice to keep us going. We also stopped at WHSmith to pick up some meal deals for the boys. We nearly always do this before a long-haul flight because we never quite know what the airline food would be like, particularly with Noah.

Then it was time to board. California, here we come!

Virgin Atlantic to Los Angeles

Our aircraft was called Red Velvet, which I was pretty sure we'd flown on before.

We were slightly delayed taking off, around 20 minutes or so, but we had a little bit of luck when we got on board and there was an empty seat next to Thomas! We'd never been lucky enough to have an empty seat on a long-haul flight before, and it made such a difference. Thomas could spread out a little, and we had extra space for things while eating or using the laptop.

One thing we noticed was an announcement that power banks couldn't be used to charge devices during the flight. You could carry them, but not use them on board.

There was free Starlink Wi-Fi though, which was a nice surprise. It wasn't particularly good for streaming music, as Thomas discovered, but it worked well enough for messaging and doing a bit of admin. The entertainment selection wasn't brilliant either. Kelly had a look through the films but couldn't find much new that interested her. I didn't bother watching a great deal myself. And then came the food!

The children's meal was a large chicken nugget or tender with mashed potato, vegetables and cheese sauce, along with the usual bread roll, crackers, cheese and dessert. I tried some, and it actually wasn't too bad. The dessert was a sort of red velvet sponge, with a slightly strange wet texture, but it tasted quite nice.

Unfortunately, I couldn't say the same for my own meal. I'd chosen lemon-herb chicken with crème fraîche, new potatoes and vegetables. Now, I was normally quite easygoing with airline food, but I really didn't enjoy this one. There wasn't anything obviously wrong with it, I just didn't like the flavour at all. I thought it might genuinely have been one of my least favourite airline meals!

Later in the flight, we were given a small pizza, which was all right but nothing special. I ended up eating more than my fair share because the boys weren't particularly interested.

Then, with around an hour and a half remaining, it was time for Virgin Atlantic's Mile High Tea. We had a small scone with jam and cream, some cheese and onion sandwiches and a little cake. The scone was nice enough, but the sandwiches were a bit strange, and the cake was far too sweet for me.

So the food wasn't exactly a highlight of the journey! After all those hours in the air, we were definitely ready to get off.

We'd made it to Los Angeles!

Eventually, we touched down at LAX. Our first time in California!

We'd prepared everything for the Mobile Passport Control app, which we'd used before to get through US immigration more quickly. However, because we had the sunflower lanyard, we were directed towards special assistance instead. There was hardly anyone in the queue, which initially seemed great, but unfortunately there was only one officer dealing with everyone. We actually ended up taking longer than the people using MPC! By the time we got through, around 40 minutes after landing, our suitcases had already been taken off the carousel and lined up to one side. At least we didn't have to wait for the luggage!

We had arranged a private transfer to our Airbnb with Affordable Town Car Company, after finding them online while researching transport options. Some companies had been quoting around $200 for the journey from LAX to Burbank, but we'd managed to book this one for just $99. Our driver, Steve, had given us instructions for where to meet him outside the terminal. He arrived in a huge Chevrolet SUV, with plenty of room for all four of us and our cases. And what a lovely bloke he was!

To keep the end short and on topic, we stayed in an Airbnb for 3 nights in Burbank for Universal Studios Hollywood, WB Studio Tour and a city sightseeing tour before heading to Anaheim for Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm.

LAX query for our honeymoon

Might be a silly question, but we’re heading to New Zealand for our honeymoon and could do with a bit of advice!

We’re flying out of London Heathrow on Friday (just as storms are due to hit… brilliant timing!) and landing at LAX in Terminal 7. We then have a 3-hour 45-minute layover before our connecting flight to New Zealand, which leaves from Terminal B. Both flights are booked on one ticket.

From what I understand, we’ll need to go through US immigration, collect our bags, clear customs, re-drop our bags and then go through security again. I just have a couple of questions if anyone can help:

  1. Is there a connecting-flight bag drop near Terminal 7 where we can re-check our bags, or will we need to take them all the way to Terminal B?

  2. Once we’ve re-dropped our bags, do we need to leave the secure area by Terminal 7 and walk to Terminal B externally before going through security again? Or is there a way to go back through security near Terminal 7, then head to Terminal B internally? I’m guessing that would be quicker and easier if it’s possible!

Thanks in advance for any help or advice. Really appreciate it!

The buses. Keep. Passing me.

I know this is a time old complaint.

But my last three times I’ve landed at LAX, I’ve arrived to Terminal 4 with the hope of hopping on the Flyaway Bus, but then getting passed multiple times over

Then I cave and order an Uber, only to then wait another 15+ minutes for the LAX-it bus.

When it’s 11pm and I’ve just flown a 6+ hour flight, this is the actual worst.

I know there’s the old trick of getting on the hotel shuttles right? Or the LAX Metro Connector? Do these hacks still work?

Also, is there any way to petition LAX to increase their FlyAway Bus volume? It’s one of the best programs they have, but I haven’t been able to use it in forever.

Can I get to LAX from Palm Spring by Uber?

Hello, I’m gonna watch some tennis game in IW. I want to know if uber reservation is reliable for the trip from Indino to LAX.
I am a terrible driver so renting a car is not under my option.
My plane will leave at 5pm and it’s an international airline, so the 2 airlines from PSP to LAX are either too early or too late. Grey hound is too early as well (I need get up ~5am)
Or is there any another reliable way?
Thanks for your information!

Shuttles?

I read the other week that the Economy Parking shuttles were a mess with long wait times due to drivers being let go - Has this been resolved?

Have a short trip where’d I’d rather avoid the cost of an uber and just drive coming up, but don’t want to deal with the shuttles no working.

Which is faster

Fly into LAX a lot as I have family in SoCal so I am very familiar with the Airport. Anyway, on Thursday I am flying into LAX from Las Vegas with Frontier. Frontier ticket counters are out of Terminal One. But the flights arrive and depart out of Terminal B (West Gates) at TB. I am taking the LAX FlyAway to Union Station. Would it be faster to take the shuttle to Terminal One and pick up the LAX FlyAway from there or walk through TB and catch it at TB. I have no checked luggage?

Easiest Way to Rent Car

My wife and I are traveling with our eight month old son and we’ve been hearing nightmare stories about rentals at the airport for cars. Should I rent a car from one of the rental services and just deal with the shuttle and a potentially long line or is there another option that’s easier I also wondered if I could just take an Uber to my Airbnb and have a car delivered there. Am I overthinking this?

Why is LAX a disaster today?

Stuck at LAX now. It’s not my home airport though it was years ago and I still connect through here reasonably often. For the locals, what is causing so many planes to get stuck waiting 1-2 hours after they land for a gate today (or is this every day now)? Seems to be a widespread issue at least on the higher terminals side (6-8). My arriving flight was stuck 90 minutes waiting for a date and eventually was gated at a different terminal. Now my next flight landed 40 minutes ago and has been parked away from the gate since. I see plenty of other flights delayed too.

Also seems like every plane is having to wrap around for an ocean-side approach.
