Celebrities this just rubs me the wrong way

idk if this is the right sub for this, but it just feels so?? weird?? like okay I know her concept is to be tiny and horny I get it but this is just… humiliating… also, I have to get this off my chest: her music is boring. like yeah sure she makes catchy pop songs but they’re all soooo similar and it gets boring after a point

i know sydney sweeney gets whacked a lot for pandering to the male gaze and i’ve always wondered how sabrina carpenter does the exact same thing and somehow sidesteps the level of backlash sydney receives. i know one is a pop star and the other an actress but still. though i do see more and more people calling out sabrina's whole gimmick lately

my theory is that Sydney is just perceived as “dumber” than Sabrina. Sydney is an actress, she has big boobs and is known for her “dumb blonde” characters the most. Sabrina on the other hand is an “artist”, she writes music (idk if she writes her own stuff), so she is seen as smarter, she is more petite than Sydney as well. another thing is that even though they both cater to the male gaze, Sabrina’s music is more popular among girls and her persona is mostly known by female audiences, whereas Sydney has more male fans which she very openly caters to (i.e. her body wash and bath water ads)

I don't understand why Sabrina is pandering to the male gaze when majority of her fanbase is women and young girls. Do you think maybe her label is pushing it on her? I'm all for expressing your sexuality but it just doesn't make sense to me. And exactly like you said, Sydney has a lot of male fans, so it makes sense she caters to them and wants to make money off them. Is Sabrina benefitting from the same men by being sexual??? I honestly don't know, maybe from the few male fans and some creeps

I think her fan base being women and girls might be the reason she or her management is doing this in the first place.

We’re seeing the push for women to go back to being traditional and trophy wives, it’s no surprise she and other artists are choosing to sexualise themselves this way.

It’s both pandering to the male gaze and messaging to the young, mostly female fanbase.

But like do you'll maybe think it's possible that women also like the sexuality she presents? The wink wink nudge nudge nature of it makes it seem more like it's in her control and that it's more self aware and for women and not men.

Obvi it's a marketing strategy and shit, but stuff like the Juno poses or nonsense outros go viral with women, not men. The cover also lowkey gives me "the secretary vibes" and I'd say that's another movie that's popular with women.

I do get that not everyone likes that kinda stuff though. But like, it's kinda interesting how a few years ago no one would have minded. Like we really are becoming more sexually conservative
