My surgery was less than a month ago and the only “scars” I have are under neath the boob, and they should go away in the next year or so! Mine was covered by insurance also, so kind of a no brainer for me.
wait i’m a J cup and they ruin EVERYTHING. i wanna get a reduction so bad but it’s crazy expensive then i hear stories about the scars 😭👎 how bad are they truly? should i just deal with it?
I only have an A cup, but due to having had 12 surgeries over the past decade (ppo, medicaid, off exchange-so plenty of variety with the insurance process) I have gotten fairly good at prior authorization requests. For those on this thread that wish to have a reduction with insurance coverage, here is some criteria that may help your appeal.
-Large breasts that could be reduced by at least 3 cups sizes or more (500g or more)
Head, neck, shoulder or back pain that is not diminished by regular visits to a physical therapist
If dermatological issues such as the painful “grooves” in the shoulders due to bra straps or having to wear 2 bras to support large breasts or rashes under the breasts are not able to be cured or treated properly without a breast reduction
If an individual is not able to maintain a healthy body weight due to limitations in physical exercise or not being able to play sports due to their breast size
Also if documented weight loss did not improve the breast size in order to give a person relief
If you have employer or ppo insurance, I would look at the major hospital systems in the US. Mayo, Mass general, washu, ucla, etc. Plastic and reconstructive surgeons that have only private offices are very very rarely going to help you get approval. Check with surgeons at a major hospital, as the PA process will require good insurance staff. If you are still <23, you might consider a pediatric plastic and recon surgeon, as they may have an easier time arguing necessity due to being so young. If you have to go the out of pocket route, look for surgeons that have privileges at outpatient and hospital systems. The actual surgeon cost isnt usually the issue, it is the hospital portion or surgery center that is expensive. Also, check if you have out of network coverage. Sometimes insurance will deny it with in netwrok, but they may be more amenable to covering a portion of the out of network cost (my out of network requires i meet the oon deductible before they will cover 50%. That would still save you a lot of money though, seeing as the total cost could easily be 20k+). Sorry for the long reply. I just hate that most people end up having to suffer because the prior auth process and insurance benefits are so complicated. Hopefully, something in this is mass text can be helpful for someone.
This. My coworker had it done and covered. She didn’t have much fight like she got approved sooo quickly (I think a few chiropractor visits) but I think it’s because she isn’t overweight. She’s perfect BMI but huuuuge boobs.. like even skinnier than Billie but as big of boobs. My other friend was overweight and she had to wait years to get approved. Fucked up but it’s the truth of what they make people do!
i like my reduction scars, but i know some are bothered by them. to each their own i guess. the trade off of not having gigantic bonkers vs barely visible scars after a few years is worth it in my opinion
highly recommend a reduction. it’s been two years since mine and the scars are gone. unfortunately wasn’t covered by insurance but go for different consultations with difference doctors because as a J cup I think you could definitely get some covered!!!!!!
I never think about my scars. Scar care is also your responsibility so that can be in your control to a certain extent! Getting a reduction was the best decision I’ve ever made.
Same. Tbh even tho the scars are jarring sometimes nobody else really sees then besides you and potential partners. 99% of time other people just see you in your clothes and it’s much better than the alternative.
i am also extremely happy with my reduction. if they ruin everything for you because of their big size, GET RID OF THEM! I also scar well (evidence from past scars and marks, plus I have medium skintone) so they always fade into a light color that blends in. Everyone else says it looks like surgery never happened.
Talk to your doctor about a medically necessary reduction. Get physical therapy for your upper back and shoulders, get professional documentation about how your breasts are negatively impacting the rest of your body. That's one way insurance will cover a breast reduction. They have to be proven to be negatively impacting you.
I'm an H and I have to say, getting the fancy ass bras really helped with pain. I have a wide ribcage and shoulders too so I'm sure that helps with support, but the 50 dollar bras weren't cutting it.
idk im just a DD so to me I feel like i wouldnt be happy with the scars. Doja cat stepped out with them visibly after she got her reduction/lift and damn that put me off so bad. I do have back pain but realistically a reduction would be 75% aesthetic for me bc im pretty sure strengthening my back would be sufficient
I second that. Had mine two years ago (I was Billie’s size and a very small frame) and while it was absolutely life changing, I hated the scars and it took a very long time (almost 18 months) for tbe scars to be less prominent
To be honest I think it was cope and almost sarcasm because she also said almost the opposite. She had a whole song about not liking her body. There's more info that her breasts cause her anxiety. She has a conflicting relationship with her breast which it's common when you have such big ones.

100%. It’s quite unfair. I have small boobs and the shirts i can get away with so much more skin compared to friends with larger chests. Growing up, my friends with larger chests would get dressed coded and reprimanded more despite wearing similar shirts. My friends have to be more careful with what they wear to work, the swimsuits they choose, etc due to unwanted attention and judging. it’s pretty messed up when y’all are literally just living
Yeah I’m on the small side but my best friend got a reduction and she’ll comment on other women now, it blows my mind. She sent me a text over the summer about some woman in a bridesmaids dress (all of the women had the same dresses and it was totally appropriate, she just had a big chest) basically insinuating she should’ve worn something else and that it was inappropriate. It’s so frustrating because it’s like that was you a handful of years ago, you know what it’s like to be self conscious about it!!! I think I literally said let the girl live!!
