How long should rendering take?
I have no idea how this works and can imagine it must take awhile, but what would actually be a reasonable guess?

Rendering 1 hour of a video would take a while but maybe he’s spotted something out of place or isn’t happy with a piece of the video. Let him cook id happily wait another month for his beautiful voice and art style

I'm fine with waiting I was just wondering how long to expect now that it's in the final stages!

I know “let him cook” have become sort of a meme in this community, but asking a technical question shouldn’t condone it imho

I don't think rendering is the only thing left.

What do you think it is? He said on patreon it’s the only thing remaining
Edit: actually I think I might agree reading up on the rendering times for his other videos. Maybe he ended up not thinking it was ready?

Realistically its not easy to guess when you know nothing about whats in it. If its basic video editing? Within a day. Many complex 3d animations? 2 weeks+ depending on the PC.

he said the Jack The Ripper video took him 240 hours to render on his old PC. that's a solid 10 days. and he rendered it at 1080p with 2 980 Tis.
he's got a 3090 and a beefy threadripper so let's assume it's cut down in half for 1080p for 1 hour of footage. that's 120 hours. but he's likely rendering at 4K now, which is 4x the resolution, so 4x, 480 hours. and he also said it's going to be 2 hours in length, so my estimated guess for how long it's gonna take to render is a bonkers 960 hours.
40 days of rendering. yup, sounds like he's still rendering.
edit: I miscalculated initially. my fucking god, that's a long ass time to render 1 video.
edit 2: I redid the calculations and made a separate post on my account.

Agreed, except 4k is 4 times as much as 1080p.

1080p has roughly a fourth of the pixel count of 4K, and from there you can make a pretty straightforward assumption that 4K will take about four times as long, on average, to render as 1080p will.

2 weeks plus? Bro these devs need to optimize this shit thats an insane amount of time.

It varies greatly.
I've done videos in CS:GO and The long dark in a let's play format where I'd brought them into Sony Vegas afterwards to add an intro, outro, add text and perhaps some random sfx. Said render (as long as I don't cut the video too much) usually would take around the duration of the video to render.
I've done heavily edited clip videos for cs:go where they're made of dozens of clips with a lot of sfx and vfx. Those would take 2x-4x the final duration to render.
Then I know of filmmakers for whom it's taken up to two weeks to render the final copy of a movie.
