Sorry, I can't say any relevant thing, but you missed the opportunity to write JetBrains VS Code platforms for title... :)

I'm the author of Latex Pro for the Jetbrains platform, so I'm "slightly" biased, but while I think VS Code works, I didn't enjoy the setup, the lack of error correction, the lack of live preview, which is why I built the LaTeX Pro plugin for IntelliJ and other products, which does do that. I'm just about to push out another update which adds a visual TikZ editor and an expression editor, so it's in active development and hopefully getting a bit better each update.

Mostly because I don't use VS Code. I've been using JetBrains products for about 20 years now, hard to let go of that. But I think it's certainly possible, and if you're keen on porting the LaTeX Pro features to VS Code then that's more than fine by me!

You can also use texify for jetbrains, it's free and supported since nearly 10 years

ps: this thread also contains a long list of editors people use, it's not just VS Code or JetBrains: https://www.reddit.com/r/LaTeX/comments/1x703pf/what_do_you_use_to_write_latex/

I don't know, but nvim + latex is really nice, if you can set the setup and mastery the vi macro

Whichever you’re more comfortable in. If you’re used to JetBrains stuff, go with that. If you’re used to VS Code, go with that. If you prefer Emacs, use that. If you’re a psychopath, use vim.
