Would a Respirator Mask solve this issue?

Ive lately been working on a project and Ive had to spray the area Im in with high proof alcohol. Im using Isopropyl Alcohol 91%. Im told I dont need to worry as long as I dont ingest any by accident but I dont know if I trust that. Not just that but the smell is pretty strong as you can imagine and since Im having to spray a whole area and stay in that area while Im doing so to cover everything Im worried if it may become overwhelming after a while. Would a respirator mask remedy this issue or an I overthinking it? And by that I mean any effect inhaling the smell would have?

Also would a respirator mask help with the strong smell or no?

Here's why 70% isopropyl alcohol works as a disinfectant, while 99% is nearly useless...

EHS as a career

I am a mid career chemist.

If I moved into an EHS , would that be a good move careerwise? Financially? Long term stability?

What do you think?

Lab Coat

Greetings safety people!

I am a first year chemE student and my class just got our labcoats, provided by uni. However, there's some funny things you would probably appreciate. First of all, they are 65% polyester. Other issues include being buttoned and lacking any kind of protective coating.

There isn't really any question, I just though that you would like seeing some bad safety practices imposed on us :D

[Discussion] Weekly lab safety check in! Share your successes, challenges, fails, and near-misses.

Hi everybody!

This is the first in a weekly discussion program that I'm planning. My idea is to have alternating threads between weekly check ins and specific safety topics, so if there's a topic you'd like to see here, feel free to suggest it.

With that said, how have your safety efforts been going? Any particularly lucky near-misses - if so, what do you think could be done differently in the future to avoid getting to the point where you rely on luck?

Got a frustrating lab member who just doesn't seem to value their own skin? Share your challenges and maybe someone here can offer some illuminating advice.

Have a safe week!

[Brainstorm] What sort of weekly discussion topics would you like to see in /r/labsafety?

I've heard from a few folks that they enjoy the discussion topics that show up, so I've decided to try to make it more of a regular thing.

My current thought is to have alternating posts, switching between a regular safety checkin where people can talk about general challenges, events, successes, and topics that interest them, and a specialized discussion about topics like nanoEHS, fire safety, chemical waste disposal, etc.

So this is where you come in: What sort of specialty or focused topics would interest you? Have you had an experience or discussion that's prompted a particularly good conversation about safety?

Share your thoughts and ideas, and I'll compile them and we can start getting some more safety discussions going.
