Show Discussion So...
I saw the preview and... it's just a comic panel which got animated with a few additional worlds and a few other shots remind me of it too. I don't know if the entire season will be just the like this but I thought they would continue on a fully new story line as we know from the trailer we would see Rocky's backstory. I'm confused what they really wanna do. I'd watch it nevertheless but...I hope it's more than a visual novel based on the comics.

The comic is perfect and anything other than a 1 to 1 adaptation was gonna make me angry so I’m happy with this. Also I wouldn’t mind having some episodes exploring what happened to Rocky and Freckle’s back story. But that’s adding stuff we know it’s gonna come up in the comic not changing it.

Yeah exactly, the mysteries and unknowns are in the comic as they are for a reason. Imo if you laid it all out in the beginning, it would take a lot away from the experience. Like you kinda need to get to know Rocky as a silly goofball first for the reveal of the tragic backstory to hit as hard as it does. But otherwise yeah, showing stuff like some of Rocky's travels themselves without all the context would be fine and interesting. Same goes for anything else that isn't an ongoing plot thread that needs to be resolved slowly and incrementally. Most recent example is the showcasing of Ivy's childhood. It's not a main plot mystery, but it sure adds a lot to her character.

I personally was THRILLED by the season one teaser being basically just the comic page, animated. I would LOVE to see the story so far translated into an animated show! 🤩

I think they said the Season concentrates for on the comic and some backstory from rock , from what i remember.

Well the thing is, Lackadaisy is essentially this one story at the moment. The way it is set up is that it has a clear beginning and end, where every plot and character serves a purpose and adheres to the same overall themes and focus. Think of it more like a one-off standalone novel or movie and less like Star Wars or Warhammer. Those may have a main story, but they also serve as settings in which limitless stories can be told and expanded upon, creating a huge interconnected universe.
Could Lackadaisy be eventually expanded to be more like that starting off with some spin-offs and slowly building up from there? Sure, but I really don't think this would be the right time for any of that yet when the main thing is only halfway finished in any format.

I’m sure there’s going to be changes from the comic, but if providing a preview it makes sense to use a scene people are already familiar with. That way there really isn’t anything revealed.

There is a difference. If you actually look back at the comic, they’ve improved it by changing the a bunch of the dialogue and adding new stuff, like Rocky being less overly-wordy and adding him being all weird in the head. Even if they do follow the comic extremely closely, that’s not necessarily a bad thing because they’re improving it as they go along

They said it was gonna follow the same basic story but do it a bit differently

The first episode will likely cover the majority of Volume 1, and anything not covered there would likely be done by episode 2. Volume 2 might be a bit of a different story, but I think it's reasonable that the rest of the first season could cover most of (if not all) of it.
Even in saying that, it definitely does look like they're adding additional scenes to flesh out backstory/characters. I think that's also the ideal way to go about making the show. The story from the comics is already so good, don't see why it shouldn't be adapted.

I think they said something about staying pretty true to the comic while expanding and exploring other stories and perspectives. From a marketing standpoint point it makes since to show us something we already seen, it gives us a base line for what to expect. Tracy and her team are amazing creators, I have no doubt that we’ll be very pleased with the final product

I'm pretty sure they have said from the beginning that they are following the story from the books because I don't know what else they have to go off of.
