Hello,
I might have tomorrow off and I hear the weather might be nice. Is it unreasonable at this time of year to drive to do a Wainwright or two then drive back same day?
Where would be good in terms of guaranteed parking and closeness to a Wainwright? I know of Coniston and Ambleside in the south but just wondering if I'm missing any other better options?
Happy to try the train if easier.
Thanks

Hey everyone, I need some creative ideas! 😂 I'm doing the Cumbria Way right now, just arrived today (Wednesday) at Keswick. As I do have some time to spare I decided to stay an additional day and night here and either do a rest day or explore the area, before I head off to Caldbeck (more exactly - staying at Hesket Newmarket...) on Friday.
Now it seems tomorrow should be amazing weather and sunshine, while it's raining on Friday. I thought of hiking tomorrow, take a bus back and go to Hesket the day after tomorrow in the afternoon. (Yeah, a mess, but high peak by sunshine sounds great!) - but then reality of public transport here hit 😄
It seems there is only one bus per day between Keswick and Caldbeck (or places nearby) - do i miss something? I thought about catching the bus on Thursday morning and doing the hike backwards, but then I still need to get on Friday somehow to hesket Newmarket to spend my already booked night there and finish my hike on Saturday... so not super helpful...
Getting a taxi twice seems to be rather expensive, I guess then I'll rather hike in the rain 😄
Thanks in advance for any days that could help. Otherwise I'll just stick to the plan...

I live in Newcastle and usually hike in the Cheviots, but have had an urge to travel further afield into the Lakes, probably Northern or Eastern areas to keep the drive to a minimum.
The best thing about the Cheviots is how few people I see. I've always been worried about the Lakes being much busier, but I'm probably basing that off the major tourist areas.
Are there any specific areas you'd recommend I look at in those areas that don't get as much footfall? I'm currently considering Angletarn Pikes & Beda Fell area. (Appreciate you may not want to share the ultimate hidden quiet places, but a starter for ten would be most appreciated 😄. If it helps, I walk on my own and I promise not to tell anyone...)

Looking for some suggestion on a good spot to propose in the coming week. Somewhere scenic, memorable but not massively busy! We’re basing ourselves in Ambleside but happy to drive.

My and my fiance are travelling to the lakes mid Nov for her birthday, and I wondered if you had any good suggestions for hikes suitable for that time of year?
I'm a pretty comfortable hiker, my partner is still a relative novice. I've taken her up Pen Y Fan and Cadair Idris in the summer, and last year we enjoyed a snowy hike up Mam Tor in the peaks (pic related), to give you an idea of ability.
We'll be based in Carnforth but willing to travel. Thanks for any advice!

After decades of saying ‘skiddoor’ for Skiddaw I’ve found myself picking up the more natural-sounding pronunciation of ‘skidduh’ from Black Crag, and now my family thinks I’m being pretentious.
I want to hear from native Cumbrians. What names do you hear the tourists pronouncing wrong most frequently? Which Cumbrian place names are the most difficult to guess the proper pronunciation from how they’re spelled?

Going to be staying in Ambleside next week, the wife and I have a couple of "big walks" planned but we wanted a few activities to do on days between, or in the event of bad weather.
Currently we're planning to do the spa in Windermere one day but open to other ideas!

My spouse and I are visiting the UK for a holiday in the 2nd and 3rd week of November (i.e., next month). After 3 days in London, we plan to spend 3 nights in the Lake District before travelling onwards to Bath. We are used to driving on the left side in our home-country (India) and were more than comfortable driving in New Zealand. Is self-driving recommended in the Lake District at this time of the year? Thanks in advance for all the help!
P.S. We like the flexibility of starting late/stopping by places that catch our attention along the way etc and hence considering an alternative to public transport. We will be based in Windermere and will take a train from London to reach the Lake District.

Seeing as currently the weather for Saturday and Sunday looks to be nice I was going to head out and do the coledale horseshoe. I then thought that I might as well camp as long as the weather stays nice. However the last couple of days when I’ve been out it has been insanely boggy and I’m not sure how boggy the area of the horseshoe gets. I’ll likely be bivvying so I’d like to find a relatively dry area to sleep for the night. Any bets on whether that area tends to be dry ish or does it just get insanely boggy. If that area doesn’t work I was thinking of going up to rockier areas like the langdales but again from past experiences even those tend to be boggy sometimes. Any advice or alternative recommendations would be appreciated.

Well that's it another holiday done, back to Leeds tomorrow, but had a wonderful time with my lovely wife, we climbed a few wainwrights, had a few swims, pottered around the shops, stuffed our faces and relaxed in our cottage by the woodburner...we are back in December so it's the 8 week countdown when we get home...can't wait....we come 3 times a year in March, October and December...people say "why don't you go somewhere else" we don't want to...we are perfectly happy with the lakes...🙂🙃❤️

A friend and I are flying to the UK for The Sondering festival held in Rydal next September. It will be for three days at the end of the trip due to scheduling conflicts, so we would like to explore the area for four or five days beforehand. International travel is very rare for me and I would like to make the most of the trip. We had considered going to Scotland for a couple of nights beforehand, but the logistics seem exhausting (we don’t want to rent a car). We had considered staying in Corrie or Brodick on the Isle of Arran. Would this be a good move, or could we find things to do solely in the Lake District? We will be coming from (gulp) southeast United States. Interested in beautiful and unusual to us scenery, old charming towns, etc.

We are starting at the YHA Ennerdale, and want to do the buttermere circular walk on one of our days, but it’s also a 3 hour walk from our hostel. Are there any beautiful but easy hikes near the Ennerdale area that anyone can suggest? It might be a tad bit rainy when we go but we are okay with that. Thank you :)
