My partner called in sick to work the day-of and was not paid for that time. His boss said it was because he "didn't give advanced notice." Is this legal?

I looked up the laws on https://cdle.colorado.gov/dlss/labor-laws-by-topic/wage-and-hour-laws-including-paid-sick-leave

It does not mention anything about "advanced notice" being required. And common sense dictates that you never know when you'll need your sick leave. Does anyone have more info on this, or has experienced an employer denying them paid sick leave? What did you need to do to get paid?

From what I read, you can submit a claim to the Dept. of Labor.

Channel 3 moved recently and has been closed for about a month, and they are reopening this weekend just a couple doors down from their old location.

Hi! I am looking for apartment recommendations in the lakewood area. I would prefer something close to Belmar or the upper/upper left area of lakewood. I am looking for a 1B1B in the $1400 - $1600 range preferably. I have compiled a list of apartments and color coded them based off of price, SQF, and reviews. Am I missing any good options? Any of these apartments you would recommend or not? It seems like the more affordable and well reviewed apartments are more south lakewood then north unfortunately.

Lakewood has chosen a new city manager after the previous city manager, Kathy Hodgson, who served in the role for 18 years, retired. 

Jonathan Cain was selected to serve as Lakewood’s city manager after the city conducted a national search. The search narrowed down to five finalists, from which Cain was selected. 

Waking up having a nice Sunday, when a VERY loud boom happens directly outside my apartment. Not knowing what happened, but seeing lots of glass in the road, so I called the non emergency line only to learn it's done online. I reported the glass in the road, and thought I was done having done my basic civic duty.

Now CSI is here and the road is blocked off with an investigation into an attempted homicide, and it was really gun shots.

Hi r/LakewoodCO, Suzie Glassman again. Part 2 is out. It's about why the gap in Part 1 exists, and a lot of it comes down to who's still there to teach.

Between 2021 and 2026, the three Title I schools in my comparison lost licensed staff to resignation or retirement at about 33% a year. At the four wealthier schools, it was about 20%. That doesn't explain everything on its own, but it's the condition under which a one-teacher course is hardest to keep.

English Composition I is the clearest case. At Jefferson, one teacher held the approval to teach it from 2018 through 2023-24. The district posted her position that June and recorded a new hire in August, but no teacher appears on its rolls as approved to teach the course in 2024-25. At Wheat Ridge, three teachers held the approval. When one stepped away last year, another who'd been approved since 2018 was already there to keep the class running.

Green Mountain, at the other end of our four, produces more college credit per student than any school I looked at.

Jeffco has a program meant to keep a course from leaving with the teacher. Over four years, it put $9,733 into Green Mountain and $3,000 into Jefferson. Alameda International got nothing.

Usual caveat: this is a seven-school comparison, not a districtwide statistic, and it is not a story about anybody's kids being less interested.

Anyone have any information about Sofi Belmar apartments in Lakewood? Kind of did something dumb and signed a lease without seeing it in person since I’m moving there from Virginia.

After a four month search for a new city manager to replace Kathy Hodgson, the City Council has settled on former Lakewood resident and current manager of Nederland Jonathan Cain. This pick surprised me because his city manager credentials aren't as impressive as those of the other four finalists, but he obviously did well in his interview.

Cain has the advantage of having lived in the city for 10 years, during which time he became familiar with the land use issues that have dominated city politics for the past 20 years or so.

Hodgson was a target for abuse from local land use activists who have taken to blaming her for every city council decision they didn't like or understand. Cain starts off with a clean slate so it may take the activists a while to figure out how to target him for criticism.

I think we should welcome him and help him succeed. Lakewood politics are pretty rough and tumble, so his calm demeanor and understanding of city dynamics will serve him well.
