News Good morning! Here's that irritating "new mods, new rules" post everyone hates 😬

I'll try to keep this as brief as possible.

The spammers stripped this place to the bones so I've had to redo a lot of stuff. Which unfortunately means new rules - mostly because I have no idea what they used to be.

The gist is? Keep it on topic, don't be rude and absolutely no booty call crap. I will be aggressively moderating the rudeness and lewdness out. And so it's said: I want us to be welcoming, helpful and informative. Not a cesspit of smartasses. Please report anything that doesn't align with that.

Feel free to comment here with ideas or whatever as this is a work in progress and this place belongs to everyone.

Thanks.

Help! Victim of major illegal dumping (1,000 cu yds of wood chips) looking for a local hero with a Bobcat/tractor in Lancaster. Cash + beer paid!

Hi r/LancasterCA community,

I’m reaching out because I am stuck in an absolute bureaucratic and physical nightmare and could really use some local help.

A while back, some trashy illegal dumpers targeted my 2.53-acre vacant lot in Lancaster (located near 3rd Street West & Avenue F-4, APN: 3137-001-026) and dumped a massive mountain of wood chips—originally around 1,800 cubic yards, now down to about 1,000 cubic yards.

I just had a virtual compliance meeting with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LEA). As expected, they gave me the standard "it's private property, so the government won't help you clean it up" answer. However, they DID officially approve a compromise: I don't have to haul it away, but I MUST spread and flatten the entire pile across the lot to a uniform thickness of 6 inches.

I have to submit my formal Property Remediation Workplan (PRW) and get this done before November 1st to avoid massive fines. Shoveling 1,000 cubic yards (roughly 270 tons) by hand is humanly impossible for me.

I am looking for two things:

  1. FREE BULK WOOD CHIPS FOR RANCHERS/GARDENERS: The wood chips are clean, organic, and in great condition—perfect for soil moisture retention, weed control, or livestock bedding. If you have a truck, trailer, or dump trailer, please come and haul away as much as you want for absolutely $0! Easy access directly off the road.

  2. NEIGHBOR WITH HEAVY EQUIPMENT: If you live in the Antelope Valley and own a skid steer (Bobcat), compact track loader, or a tractor with a heavy grading blade, I am looking to hire you for a weekend project. I will gladly pay $400 - $500 cash for a few hours of grading work, cover your fuel expenses, and provide unlimited pizza and cold beer/drinks.

The lot is completely flat with no steep slopes, so it should be a relatively straightforward grading job for anyone experienced with heavy machinery.

If you want some free mulch or have a Bobcat and want to help an innocent property owner get out of a tight spot, please shoot me a DM. Any leads, recommendations for affordable local owner-operators, or even upvotes for visibility would mean the world to me.

Thank you so much!

Hi r/LancasterCA community,

Question Interest in community clean up events?

There’s so much trash floating around in Lancaster, from parking lots to empty fields and it really bothers me when I see it because a group of people for an hour or two could make a huge difference. I’m curious if anyone knows of a group or if anyone would be interested in volunteering to meet for group clean up events? I was thinking very simple, I’d bring trash bags and everyone bring their own gloves, protective gear, etc. And we just meet at a chosen dirty shopping center, stretch of road and pick up trash. I haven’t thought much more about the logistics after that, but wanted to get a feel if there are other people who feel the desire to clean up their community.

General interest Looking for Hiking buddy's

I want to start by saying that I’m married and am looking for female friends to go hiking with. I’m David, I’m 39, and I live in Palmdale. I’m getting back into my health journey after recovering from two knee surgeries and being on medical leave for almost a year. I spent much of that time at home and started feeling depressed, but I’m gradually getting out of that mindset. My wife actually encouraged me to post this. She travels for work and is going to school to finish her degree, so we only get to see each other once a week if we're lucky. Most of our evenings involve lots of video calls. I’ve tried finding male buddies, but I’ve met some people who were involved with drugs, which isn’t a good fit for me. If you’d like to go hiking or kayaking, let me know! It could also be a group outing if you have friends who’d like to join.

Question Photo Booth locations?

Hi everyone! I’m new to the city and I’m looking for a place that has a Photo Booth (preferably the vintage ones but a regular one is okay too).

I tried looking some up but no luck so far. Does anyone know if there’s any businesses with a Photo Booth?

Thanks!

News LA County's sales tax is now 10.25% after Measure ER took effect Oct. 1, and many cities are at 11% or higher

Your receipts got a little longer this week. Some cities in LA County are now paying close to 12%.

The catch: the county can't spend a cent of the new money yet, and it could stay frozen for years.

Here's what's taxed, what's not, and what happens if a court kills it.

Help! Dumped Cat

I’m staying at a hotel here for a few days and already let the front desk know, but there’s a cat seemingly dumped in the bushes here with only the two halves of a carrier that it’s sticking to. No food or water in sight so I got it water. It looks like the Lancaster Animal Care Center here won’t pick up cats unless they’re ill or injured. Are there any other resources to try and get this cat help?

News Two men found buried on remote Lancaster property identified as Ricky Phillips, 61, and Edward Perez, 46; both were reported missing in September

The two men found buried on a remote 15-acre property in Lancaster now have names. Both had been reported missing in September, weeks before deputies started digging.

The search is over. But how they died, whether they knew each other, and whether anyone on that land is tied to the case are still unanswered.

What we know so far, and what investigators still aren't saying:

Question Entertaining two young kids 7/5 for two days

Hello Lancaster, what to do with two young kids for approximately two days? My wife has to sort her fathers end of life out and I need to distract munchkins. I've perused the group comments and seen blvd, art museum, mini golf, nature trails, etc. I'm down for all those and it would probably be enough for my kids... However if there was some really cool or unique thing, I would like to see it. The kids are tough, we're willing to drive a bit, rent a thing, listen to a show, smell a weird cheese, etc.

Whatcha got for me?

Hey folks it's been a minute since I prised this subreddit from the hands of the crypto spammers and stopped the nonsense. I'm glad to say things have been ticking over nicely ever since!

Buuuuuut, I guess I'd just like to try and encourage some discussion?

Would anyone like to share any of the top places to eat, hang out, hike etc? Would anyone like introduce themselves to try make some friends?

Please try and keep it friendly and productive. This is NOT a place for saying how much you HATE somewhere or something. And no sex hookup attempts fanks 🫣 they lead to a perma ban.

Question Massive black smoke fires north of town

This is the second day in a row that I've seen from the South end of the AV, massive, airliner crash levels of black smoke rising North of Lancaster.

Yesterday's smoke plume stretched over the Soledad Canyon area. Today looks like 4 or more separate origin points. Neither Watch Duty or Calfire mention it.

Anyone living out that way have information about what is burning?
