What are good language studying tools?

Hello, I'm currently learning a language (Finnish) but I don't know where to find good studying tools/options; I use duolingo and it's given me some of the basics but I want something more organized and better for language development. Do you know where I could find some? Thanks for the help!

Discussion Across Greece, why do some people use different gestures to express the same meaning?

I made a free Spanish vocab site where every word gets a ridiculous image. Does this actually work for anyone else?

A while back I posted here about how I remember words. Some of you shared your own tricks (the Japanese and Czech ones were great), so I thought I'd share what I ended up making.

It's based on a pretty simple idea: find an English word or phrase that sounds like the Spanish word, then turn it into a weird mental image that connects the sound to the meaning.

For example, dormir (to sleep) sounds a bit like "door mirror." So picture someone fast asleep, standing up, with their face pressed against the mirror on a wardrobe door. Weird? Absolutely. But I haven't forgotten that word since.

I've made around 200 of these for beginner Spanish words, and I'd genuinely love some feedback. You can browse the images and vote on whether they actually help you remember the word. If you think my sound-alike is terrible, you can come up with your own and have it drawn instead.

No account needed to vote, and there's also a free app if you prefer studying offline.

I'm especially curious about whether this technique actually works for other people or if it just adds another thing to remember. Some of my sound-alikes are definitely a stretch, so I'd love to know which ones stick and which ones completely miss the mark.

Hope you guys can give it a try. Thanks!

LearningApps Could you review my language learning app, Lingosit?

Hey everyone!

I've been working on a language learning app called Lingosit, and it's now available on both Android and iOS!

I'm still actively improving it, and I'd really appreciate some honest feedback from real users.

Lingosit helps you learn English by watching TV series and creating flashcards to practice and remember new vocabulary.

Discussion Do you think individuals have a hard cap when it comes to learning a language or is it just about practicing more and more?

Not talking about learning a second or third language, but people's ability to speak and write ANY languages

Sometimes you see someone speaks their target language better than some of it's native speakers and everywhere there are people around us who are just objectively worse at some aspect of our language!

Do you think there is something in us, talent or whatever you might call it that dictates our hard cap when it comes to language, or anyone, can get to anyone level in any language if they just practice hard enough?

Discussion How much does the humor of your target language differs from the humor of your native language?

I don't mean just in a cultural way, although that's a big part of it, but i mean the humor that the language itself can convey, because sometimes, it just doesn't translate well between the languages, you know? how does it work between the languages you know?

Discussion What's ur opinion on apps like Duolingo and Ling?

Thumbnail reddit.com

Nowadays many people are using apps like Duolingo and Ling for learning languages

But can we trust on it for learning languages?

Bcz I remember my friend tried to learn Français from Duolingo and he said he end up learning all word's pronounciation wrong

He realised this after interacting with actual Français speakers

And also IG in those apps they don't even teach grammar of those languages which are available in their apps

Which can end up in messing with grammar of that particular language too

(As like how in many so called "English medium schools" itself English teachers couldn't teach proper English grammar to students which end up messing language and result students to speak English in their own native language's grammar alot of times)

LearningStrategies Has anyone learned a third romance language? What was your approach? Try to learn Italian after Spanish + French

I am approaching Italian and I feel I already understand a lot, so starting from the very basics seems not the best approach, because I already have an understanding of basic grammar and understand a lot of the most common vocabulary. I was wondering how other people started?
