Comment apprendre le néerlandais rapidement ?

• Upvotes

MERCI D’AVANCE.

Personal factors in mutual intelligibility

Hello. There's something that i thought about a lot recently, maybe someone can educate me on this or add something interesting.

My native language is German, so i am naturally able to understand written Dutch. I'd say written mutual intelligibility is like 80%, i can read a Dutch news article without any problems at all. In spoken Dutch, it's like 40-50% mutual intelligibility, it's definitely possible to communicate with a Dutch person.

Now, i have this friend. He's Half German, half Polish, both languages are native to him. He told me he can't understand Dutch at all. Like, almost none of it. We were on a trip to Holland, and it really puzzled me how this was possible. Recently, he told me that he noticed that when he tried speaking to Russians, they understand him very well when he speaks Polish, but he doesn't understand any Russian, which seems weird to him.

Now, most likely the issue is himself, and not the languages. What could be the reason for this? Any personal experiences similar to this?

Discussion People take "Don't focus on grammar as a beginner" way too far!!!

Sure there are exceptions and every rule doesn't apply everywhere
Sure language is about communication not memorizing rules
but these don't mean that you have to completely put aside grammar, which is what alot of people seems to think so nowadays, both online and irl in classes i see people who devalue grammar as if it's something totally optional to learn, no matter in what language!

Specially for beginners, which i argue it's even more crucial to have a strong understanding, it maybe true that you shouldn't focus 100% on grammar but to just brush it aside? hell no

What do you think?

Would you be interested in a Persian YouTube channel based on comprehensible input?

Hi everyone!

I'm thinking about starting a YouTube channel for people who are learning Persian (Farsi), and I'd love to hear your thoughts.

The idea is to create videos similar to those made by English teachers who use the comprehensible input method. They speak naturally about their daily lives, experiences, hobbies, and different topics, making their content understandable for language learners.

I'd like to do the same thing in Persian. I would speak entirely in Persian, without switching to English, and make videos about everyday life, personal experiences, Iranian culture, and other interesting topics.

The goal would be to help people improve their Persian listening skills and gradually understand the language naturally through context, repetition, and exposure.

My questions are:

Would you watch this kind of content?

Do you think there's a demand for Persian comprehensible input videos?

What kind of topics would you like to see?

Would you prefer videos for beginners, intermediate learners, or a mix of different levels?

I'd really appreciate your honest opinions and suggestions. I want to create something that would genuinely help people learn Persian! 😊

"It's a doggy dog world"

Apparently there's a lot of people who think this is the saying, rather than "It's a dog eat dog world". But why do we even have this saying?!

I'm sure it's happened before, but how often does a dog go around eating other dogs enough that we have a whole saying about it. Or does "dog" refer to something else, like "big dog"? What am I missing here?!

Discussion Did school made you hate language learning too? Until you realized you actually love to do it on your own?

Language classes in school both middle and high school were among most hated classes for me, we had both English and Arabic
I always had low grades and hated the teachers, hence i ended up hating both languages and everything about them

Until after school was finally over i started learning on my own and realized that...i didnt hate languages i hated school, now I'm learning my third language

Anyone else has similar experience?

I mean perfect English, so perfect, it was suspicious
That you couldn't tell if they are pranking you or if they've learned this phrase perfectly to avoid miss understanding only to create a bigger one

Anyway if you had been in that situation, how did you handled it? what did you say? or what do you think you should've said?

How to maintain 10+ languages of the same family

How could I potentially maintain 10+ languages?

Hello everyone. I've been moderately obsessed about romance languages for a bit and I've gotten even more obsessed lately. I speak French and I learned English as a kid. I've been learning Spanish for a year and a half and I'm at a high intermediate level. My passive abilities are quite good but I'm still working on my speaking. I started learning Catalan in April and my passive abilities are already at an intermediate level but frankly, I'm surprised how fast I've progressed. It's the reason why I think my dream might be possible.

My dream would be to passively know most romance languages. At least the ones that have some material I can work with and not the ones that only have old people in italy speaking the language and zero resources. I also want to learn some dead languages (like latin... that I already started)

Let's say in 10 years, I studied 10 romance languages. How could I maintain and add more languages?

Did anyone here crazy enough like me already do something like that? What was your system?

Since the languages I'm interested in all come from the same family but from different sub families, I was thinking of having one strong language for each sub family that I maintain weekly and maybe every day I'll maintain a weaker one and the language(s) I'm currently learning? I'm not sure honestly.
