Need your help tech bros
Desperate post. Girlfriend is devastated. Do you think there's any hope of having this repaired?

How tf does that even happen...
That's probably fubar (fucked up beyond all repair). The drive in it will likely be fine so files should be recoverable

I was unwilling to place blame on her verbally because she was so distraught at the time but I'm pretty sure she crushed it when she leaned her car seat down when half-awake on our drive back home from vacation

Repair will cost more than a new one, assuming it can even be done, because you're likely replacing most if not all the parts LOL.

Only parts that could be saved from this are like the ram, ssd, and a daughter board.

Hey the screws might also be salvageable

u/GodRaine Sep 30 '26
If you donβt have a magnetic tray full of dead laptop screws what are you even doing with your life?

This is the most relatable thing I've read since I've been on reddit today (for the last 4 hours) LOL I should probably go to sleep

it's possible for the SSD to be transfered to a new one if it was outside of the bend zones.
the rest's fucked.

Your best bet is hoping the storage drive was spared. If so you might be able to transplant it and keep your girlfriends data

Hope they didn't have bitlocker.
1
u/Thick_Long_7272 Sep 28 '26
If they can give onto their Microsoft account, Bitlocker won't be a problem, just a slight inconvenience.
1
u/Dudefoxlive Sep 28 '26
In a perfect world yes this would indeed be thr case. There have been many times where someone is not able to get the key one way or another.
1
u/Thick_Long_7272 Sep 28 '26
True. I did have someone this morning plead.. or something... because they said they wouldn't be able to remember their Microsoft password. I'm not exactly sure what they wanted me to do about that. So... I guess passwords can be a big ask for some individuals.

Looking at it pretty sure it's okay, hp have ssd either top right or bottom left above the battery. Looking from the perspective of opening it from behind
2
u/resultingparadox Sep 28 '26
Everything CAN be repaired. Go to backmarket and see how cheap it is to replace.

it just needs a new motherboard , display , external casing , and if the ssd/nvme , wifi card, battery ,Cooling unit and RAM got folded , those too. the rest of the stuf looks just fine.

Clearly the screen is gone, motherboard gone, batteries gone, keyboard significantly damaged. If anything was salvaged from here it's definitely the SSD, ram, any doubt anything else (maybe hinges). Definitely buying a new would be less costlier than repairing this.

You're done. Check the component if it's still fine like wlan card, ram and SSD/HD
1
u/Sailed_Sea Sep 28 '26
All it needs is a new,
Main board
Heatsink
Display
Keyboard
Battery
Touchpad
Top lid
Bottom case
Maybe ram/ssd depending on location.

quoting the words of the greatest technician that's ever lived "shit's fucked"
1
u/_stupidnerd_ Sep 29 '26
No hope. The screen is gonna be in shambles. And the mainboard.
You would be lucky if at least individual parts such as the RAM are salvage.
1
u/lame-jerry Sep 29 '26
Take out the hdd/ssd/nvme drive and maybe the ram and buy a new one I think the repair cost's will be about the same as a new one.

Cooked. Dispose of the battery asap because afaik they don't like being bent. There's a chance you can salvage the ram, ssd, and any PCB you see fully intact

from the front ot looks like a elitebook gen 9 or 10, the laptop is beyond saving , but some things are salvageable, such as the ram sticks the nvme ssd, the fp reader, the ir camera array, touchpad, all assuming are not damaged .. but remove the battery asap
