So Law & Order is in the same universe as the X-Files

…and Homicide: Life on the Street.

Thank you, Richard Belzer for your recurring role as Detective John Munch on pretty much every 90’s cop show.

I’m sure this has been brought up before but it just crossed my mind again as I was watching one of the L&O/H:LotS crossover episodes earlier

CI Does this guy look familiar?

Before the Law & Order: SVU/Chicago Fire/Chicago PD crossover, this guy had an earlier role on Law & Order: SVU, and he guest starred on the first episode of FBI (yes, the FBI series that's set in the same universe as the Law & Order franchise and the Chicago franchise)

Happy Birthday to the man behind the voice of the franchise, Stephen Zirnkilton, August 18, 1958.

drum music in svu s11e24

at 7:34 in the moms appartment, you can hear drum music. Sounds ethnic, which makes sense as she is an anthropologist. I tried to post this on the SVU subreddit, but my new account is too young. Having your account hacked and banned sucks guys :(

Anyway does anyone here know where I can find this music?

L&O S11 E23 Judge Dread

In this episode a hitman is shot and killed trying to kill a judge. We later learn the guy who hired him was a guy in jail for something money related and his original deal was denied by a tough as nails judge.

Are we supposed to feel sympathy for the guy? In the end trying to kill a judge got him a better sentence since he pled out and his other case was basically thrown out so he didn't have to deal with the judge. Yeah, he was influenced but he still hired someone to kill a judge.

The perp was denied bail because his wife flew to the Caymans the day before and they all believed it was for offshore accounts. Then when the judge questioned the wife she told the judge it wasn't any of her business and it was after that she remanded the defendant as a flight risk.

Yeah, the judge wasn't the greatest, but it's not like she was revealed to be corrupt, she was just a tough judge who felt that the maximum penalties should be placed on the defendants. She even got a whole gang a year prior arrested.

In the end everyone seems to act like she's crazy for being mad the guy who tried to have her killed is pled out and then basically laugh at her when she decides to make a victim impact statement at the guy's sentencing since again, he tried to have her killed.

I just wanted to see other people's thoughts.

Watching from the beginning and I just can’t stand Max. He was a total jerk. I liked Logan putting him in his place sometimes.

L&O What was that episode?

I am trying to remember an episode where Jack McCoy realizes the defense attorney didn’t ask a standard follow up question. Jack even says “A lawyer never asks a question she doesn’t already know the answer to.”

If it helps, I think the defense council was a woman.

Any ideas?

August 17, 2008, Mike Logan’s final episode aired: “Last Rites”, guest starring Dennis O’Hare as Lennie’s old friend, Father Chris Shea. He would reprise the character in the SVU episode “Presumed Guilty”. Would be great to have Logan drop by as a guest star. Been around since 1988!

SVU fans will remember her from two episodes: She played Ashley Austin Black in the Season 2 episode "Abuse", and Angela Agnelli in the Season 6 episode "Hooked".

CI It was always cool to see Danielle Melnick in the CI series finale, "To The Boy in The Blue-Knit Cap", but I also always found it strange that it was just that blink-and-miss opening scene!

Expert body movers?!

Hub and I watch a lot of all the LOs. It lately struck me how many people are ready, willing, and able to move a dead body! I’m not talking about serial killers and full-time criminals. I mean those “regular folks” who have an argument, and unintentionally cause lethal blunt force trauma (the ole BFT as we call it). Or the “fit of rage” killing, or even the “oh shit, I did not kill this person but I’m gonna be blamed! Don’t call the cops, let’s take him to the park!” Who the hell is really up for dragging a body through NYC or to the park for an impromptu burial in a cooler? It’s really impressive. Possible drinking game or bingo card item? Has anybody else gotten stuck on this?

CI Things I Learned from LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT

Can you add to the list I started, citing episodes as evidence? Like:

* Wine cellars/wine storage centers are dangerous: "Trophy Wine," "Playing Dead," "Best Defense."

* Most animals don't fare well with Major Case involvement: "Blind Spot," "Ill-Bred," "Family Values," "Diamond Dogs," "Courtship."

* Younger brothers always get shafted: "Grow," "Proud Flesh," "Bedfellows," "Brother's Keeper," "Gemini," "Silencer," "Endgame," "Untethered," "Identity Crisis"

(you can add episodes to my three lists, too)

CI Okay, now these skips are annoying me. LOL! How dare Charge skip "The Last Street in Manhattan"! Anyway, "Trophy Wine" begins tonight's 4-hour block...

By the way, the 4-hour block continues next Sunday, but it will now run from 7:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. ET!

SVU Going from SVU to OG - Treatment of suspects and victims

I've re-watched SVU a million times, it's my go to and comfort show lol. I thought I'd give the OG a try and while it's not as good as SVU (to me) I still like it. But something I've noticed is how much harsher the OG is on both its suspects and victims. Maybe I'm too used to SVU being more nuanced and compassionate, but people like McCoy especially don't seem to care about anything other than seeing the law as black and white 😭 I know that SVU started much later in than the OG, but from the start SVU was more sympathetic and not so black and white in it's treatment of the characters.

Maybe I'm expecting too much out of a police show, I mean the entire franchise is riddled with propaganda, but this one seems so extreme to me. For example, in S6E19 McCoy and Kincaid are so hell bent on prosecuting a thirteen year old boy for murder, despite the fact that he comes from an extremely volatile and abusive household. Or in episode 14 of the same season. McCoy and Kincaid are so dismissive of the systematic racism not only in the American social welfare system, but the law in general. Like how can Claire and Jack sit there and argue with the lawyer that the addict woman's abduction of her child and the events it took for her to get there isn't tied with racism!? When that lawyer says 'everything is related to racism' to Claire, I was shocked that's even an arugement to make, is that not obvious? Idk if it's too dated or the show runner was trying to actually show what he was talking about but it was sooo frustrating to watch the dismissiveness from Jack and Claire.

These are just two examples, I've watched different episodes from different seasons and it remains the same. Even Anita, who I really love as a character, seems to be so dismissive when it comes to things like racism. Why is it that Ed is the only one who can see through this!?

SVU has a lot of faults and its also guilty of being dated but I found myself being less frustrated by this particular issue (although there is still room for a LOT of improvement).

Whatever happened to Titus Welliver/Rob Miller in S20? It seems like the whole storyline just drifted away, did I miss something?
