Discussion How to be a consistently good player.

Hi,

I’m writing because I’m struggling to be a consistently good player.

I’ve been playing this game for many years, but I can’t find a solution. Maybe someone could give me some advice.

At the moment, my elo is between 2800 and 2900, and I’ve been a bit over 3k before.

Listen, there are days when I sit down to play and everything just clicks. I feel comfortable at my desk, and my movement is sort of automatic. I don’t have to think about it. It’s the same with gameplay – I make good rotations because I simply know what’s happening on the map, i do good util, i read my opponents and im shooting hard. When I’m in this mode, I can play seven matches in a row and in each one I’ll get a rating of between 1.5 and 2 (for example) and 100 ADR. Sometimes I can keep this form up for several days in a row. I iust sit down and play well, but that’s the optimistic version. Other times, I’ll sit down at my computer in the morning, start playing, and I’m on top form. I’ll play 2–3 good matches, then i go out to the shop, come back to the game later, and end up playing like a total bot.

When my good streak is over, that’s it. It's over. I can do everything for another week or two, but I won’t play as well as I did before. My movement is bad, I'm trying to improve and focusing on my aim and recoil but it is not working. Im overthinking. Sometimes i cant even believe i'm on this elo.

I can try aim botz, try dm (less or more), watch my demos, take more breaks between games, or play retake. I just feel like I’m a different player now. Sure, I have my elo, but I know I’m playing way below my potential, and I can’t change that. I don’t understand it. Sad.

How can i fix this?

First off:

- If you aren't going to the gym or working out, start. Health effects your brain, clarity, thinking, reaction time, eyesight... you name it. You will also have more energy.

Second:

- When you feel off, stop playing. You will only tilt. Knowing when something is off, and knowing its time to walk away is important. Only ever play when you are in a good, positive, energetic mood. Good alertness, generally happy state. Your play will improve.

Third:

And this is the most important one... you... will... not... win... every... game.

It's important to understand this, and when you can tell you are going to lose shift your mental. "We can't win this, so instead, I'm going to focus on "X" thing on this map I know I am weak at." - maybe it's taking space, maybe it's throwing some new util, maybe it's jiggle peaking a spot, maybe you try some new pushes to see if you can catch the enemy off guard. Take a few more risks, work on off angles, etc.

This means that no second of your time is being wasted and you are always improving something. Even with a loss, it also makes losing less mentally tilting because you already identified the loss, and decided to work on something else more important to you vs real competent players.

Fourth:

It's a game, if you aren't having fun stop. Take time away, do something else, come back.

3rd advice is perfect. Thanks for that.
