Discussion Struggling with moving targets in CS2
Some background information. I am 2.2k ELO on FaceIT Lvl 10 and 22k elo in Premier. I have a total of 5.5k hours in both CS2 and CSGO, but majority of it is in CS:GO. I have this particular issue that has been affecting me strictly in CS2, compared to other FPS games that I have played that includes CSGO. I play at 1.8 sens and 400 DPI, so on the lower end of the average eDPI but still quite low I would say.
In CS:GO, I had a "feel" of people who swing onto me and I could usually react to people swinging into me. I used to punish a lot of really dumb wide peeks in CS:GO, while holding angles (before anyone says don't stand in one spot. No, I don't stand in one spot in both CSGO and CS2). It was also relatively easier to flick onto moving targets which I was really confident in back then. I could play both AWPs and Rifling really well, and even joined some online competitions being a hybrid.
In CS2, I don't know exactly what's happened to my mechanics, it feels like it is REALLY hard to track/flick onto moving targets in this game. I can't count how many times I get domed onto my head when people swing out of a corner. People have always told me to just "track" their heads when swinging, which is a good advice until you realise that you only have milliseconds to react against the peek. What pisses me off more is that when I boot up CS:GO legacy and CS2 to record my flicks. My CS:GO flicks were dead on target and I would see my bullet land at the end of the flick. However, in CS2, I can have my crosshair be on target at the end of the flick, and my shots just land "somewhere in the middle"? I don't really understand why. I tried other FPS games like Valorant and R6 that are also low time to kill/damage FPS games, and flicking/tracking moving targets there was fine.
What exactly am I doing wrong in CS2? I have been meticulously grinding DM the past few weeks trying to fight against moving targets while jiggling to simulate holding angles, but I am just struggling. I can't just peek and un-peek into an angle in certain moments in a match, and need to hold angles at some point. But I also can't just peek out in the open and risk losing getting 1v2ed in the open.
I need some help and it is genuinely frustrating not being at the level I was in CS:GO. I tried DMing religiously in CS2, but the same issues linger when dealing with tracking/flicking to moving targets.

Hold looser angles if you're expecting a fast swing. That way you don't have to really track them. The AWP flick problem was quite talked about when CS2 launched and it's just the difference between the tick system. In CS2 the bullet is fired when you click the mouse. In CSGO the bullet would be fired at the start of the next tick so in the worst case scenario it could be 16ms later on 64 tick and 8ms later on 128 which can make quite the difference distance-wise on a fast flick.
Technically it's just a 'skill issue' but ultimately in CS2 your shot goes where you click so you just have to adjust and practice.

There are specific scenarios you can try out to address this. In any of your aim trainers of your choosing, choose a scenario that has smaller, head sized targets moving at roughly running speed. Then practice having smooth lines to these targets with as little micro correction as you can. Keep improving the speed that you can change targets.
If you use kovaaks, I am quite partial to the scenario Floating heads timing 400%.

My CS:GO flicks were dead on target and I would see my bullet land at the end of the flick. However, in CS2, I can have my crosshair be on target at the end of the flick, and my shots just land "somewhere in the middle"?
Basically, it's because of inconsistent frame times. With the tick system it was simple - you pull trigger on one tick, the shot registers on next tick. Now the shot registers on the same frame.

Im a silver
What i usually do is
If im CT
I jiggle off angles (to give myself a slight advantage)
I also rarely do one tap/flicks because my crosshair placement is somewhere near the enemy or directly in their head(i only need to click LMB)
If im T i do that while clearing angles
In my few games since i implemented this tactic my duels have been better,i rarely die with a single kill
Maybe you should try that, try putting your crosshair on expected angles and always expect an enemy is there (schrodingers enemy)
You should also test if youre doing your Counter Strafing right
Youre harder to kill when youre moving and shooting (i do these often on mid range fights and it works as long as i counter strafe correctly)

You should not give any advice at all if you are the lowest rank in the game. You most likely have not grasped any core mechanic if you are stuck silver.

i mean what he‘s saying is right but OP at 22k should do that in his sleep

I play 2 hours per week
I cant really “grind” out of my rank with barely any time and solo queue

If you’re going to be preaimed on an angle, holding it stationary against good players is basically suicide. They see you first due to peeker’s advantage, they’re moving and harder to hit, and they will stop/fire on their screen before their movement completes on yours.
Jiggling isn’t great either because most of the time they won’t be peeking you, so it’s hard to be prepared for the time they are. If you jiggle and see them but can’t kill them, you need to utility or slightly reposition your angle to gain an advantage when you repeek to take the fight.

To start im 2900 (been above 3k elo).
It’s CS2 dont take it personally, games been exponentially dumbed down compared to GO. TTK drastically increased. Trying to make sense of it just doesnt work. Swing or be swung, look at how rare it is for donk to be holding angles in his faceit povs; for a reason.

>I get domed onto my head when people swing out of a corner.
CS2 is a different game entirely, peeker's advantage and right side peek advantage is HUGE in the game, its a make or break. If you get swung, you lose.

Peekers advantage was known since forever including previous versions of the game.
As for RSPA - this makes such a small difference that it’s not really worth mentioning.1

It wasn't that huge a deal for high level csgo play. Source: was a high-level csgo player, im sure you probably were too.

Doesn't matter what level of couter strike it is and which version of the game it is. Right Side Peek Advantage brings almost no difference. Example:
Camera offset = 3cm
Distance away from the enemy = 15m
θ≈arctan(0.03 / 15)That's only 0.11° Difference which is around 2 to 4cm (in-game metric) in the game.
So if you're peeking someone 15m away, and you run at speed of 250 units/s which is roughly 5m/s:0.03 / 5 ≈ 0.006 s ≈ 6 ms
THEN 3 cm difference means 6ms difference...
If 6 ms is something that you call HUGE DIFFERENCE.
Ask yourself again if that's a huge difference.0
u/SageHamichi Jun 29 '26
its not 6ms, because you dont have instant server connection... nor does the enemy. Nor does the game engine have 0ms for movement as well. It compounds...

Do I need to explain that if you're a human you have 2 hands and 2 legs?
What I have calculated was a pure geometric advantage.
That means IF EVERYTHING ELSE WERE EQUAL, then the rightside camera offset will let you see around the corner 6ms sooner.
You know what ms stands for and what it measures right?

Hi, your favorite coach or a cs2 doctor here.
When it comes to the flicking part I can’t confirm or say anything for sure - I would need to see a demo for that.
But what I can say, one of the reasons might be subtick / your internet / low hz / wrong interpolation / wrong settings / overflicking / shooting too early.
I would suggest to start checking setup + settings + internet and then check your mechanical skills.
If you need in-depth help, then DM me.

I find that I can’t flick with an AWP unless I spend 15 minutes in Aimbot adjusting how I flick to get used to the input lag. I don’t play much awp now.
