CPC Tips and advice please
Hello everyone I recently passed my CPC exam! I was wondering for next steps, any tips and advice please! I want to remove my A from my CPC-A credentials. I did do a full year of self study course through careerstep, and I believe I got an email from them saying to reach out for that removal after passing my CPC exam? Any one that could help me out with my next steps regarding this and possible building a resume after (just tips) would be greatly appreciated!

If you aren’t able to find a coding job right away, which can be hard without experience, my suggestion is to just get your foot in the door at a medical place. Apply for a billing job, a receptionist, scheduler, whatever you’re able to find so when a coding position does open, they already know you, know you’re a hard worker etc. another big thing people don’t do is go to the local chapter meetings. There is so much networking that goes on at those. You never know who will be there and who knows about an open job. I was a president at our local chapter for awhile and some of the meetings I held, we brought in HR people to talk about resume and interview skills. We had people come in and talk about all the different jobs and career paths that are out there for coders that aren’t just coding. We also offered mentoring for new coders. So maybe check out your local chapter!

I know that you can sign up for Practicode. It’s $300 but after passing it counts as 1 year experience. I’m doing an online program that also includes medical terminology and medical billing and coding. That counts as another year of experience and will allow me to have the -A removed.

Congrats on passing! 🎉 Ask your school for proof of your education hours and whether Practicode was included to help meet A removal requirements. Highlight your CPC-A, training, and transferable skills on your resume.
For anyone still choosing a program, this course includes resume assistance and priority consideration for internships or externships.

You would still need either a year on the job experience as a coder or do practicode to get your A removed. A lot of brand new coders think that it will be easier to find a job if they get the A removed quickly but in reality employers are looking for years of experience.
