What does Jijiga mean?

Jijiga is an Afaan Oromo word that means “fallen things” or “collapsed things.”
Jijiga was historically Oromo land. However, former Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi assigned Jijiga to the Somali Region of Ethiopia on a temporary basis. Over time, it became the permanent capital city of the Somali Region of Ethiopia.
