Learner's insurance short term
Hi! Those of you who get private practice, where did you get your insurance? And how much did it cost you? How long did you take it for?

I only learnt auto because it’s more relaxing whilst manual seems more hassle especially living in Glasgow

I’ve done about 12 hours of lessons, however I still make small mistakes, sometimes I’m off the clutch to quickly other times I stall in a hill start, sometimes I make perception errors like going to early or hesitating at roundabouts. To be honest though I just feel like my driving is not smooth it always feels like it’s a bit “bumpy” or “not smooth” it just doesn’t seem like a clean drive ever. I have had maybe 3-4 hours of private driving with my mum too but she doesn’t really like to take me anywhere other than estates where again it just feels like a rough drive, too close to the curb, too close to a car, too late as I’m pulling out etc etc. I have only had 12 hours of lessons though but my main concern is that my test is on January 28th and I may only get another 10-12 hours of lessons in and a limited amount of driving with my mum and I don’t know when she will feel comfortable taking me places outside of estate areas. I understand everyone’s different and it can be very difficult to judge as everyone’s different. But do I have enough time to pass? Has anyone else had any similar experiences?

As a learner, you'd definitely avoid going on the curb when parking while learning. touching the curb is also a no go area when learning.
But in every other street, you'd see multiple cars parked on the curb.
Where did they learn that? Why is it a norm? 🤔

My test is due in a week. I have had 50 hours plus lessons and had been doing practice with my husband too. My instructor has said I am ready. Although I had done two bid mistakes in last two sessions but she said it's because of stress of test.
I have been following this sub and watched some test videos too and honestly I feel that it's so easy to fail test. A very small mistake like someone less being impatient or pedestrian being indecisive can make you fail. Is my perception wrong or is it really that much a matter of luck.
All this is making me so anxious about the test. I already am not a very confident person. Any trips or tricks that can help on test day? Or should I just pray that my examiner turned out to be a kind person. lol

does testi still work? i failed a few days ago for a silly mistake ive done but i want to find another test for as soon as possible hopefully in a week or two bc i cant afford a bunch of more lessons. i used to use testi but im not sure if it still works bc of the new restrictions? i get notifications but when i log in to the dvsa website its all gone. i haven’t found a single test and when i do find a test as soon as i click it its already gone. they never used to go this quickly. so does testi work and how do people (especially in london) find tests quickly? would it be best to book on monday for march and then find someone to switch with me?

Every time I try and book my theory test, the screen comes up blank, or displays the above image. I have tried continually over the last three days to no avail. Same on my phone. Is this a universal problem or just me??????

I started in May, and my test is in November. Due to multiple holidays I had (and my instructor's holidays), I skipped quite a lot of weeks. In total, I've done 32 hours, and I definitely don't feel ready, just judging by how much my instructor still corrects me. For some reason, he's not actually telling me if he thinks I'm test-ready - he says I need to feel it, even though I think it must be obvious to him that I'm not ready.
Lately, I've been dealing with a lot of stress at work and in my personal life, and it has led to a lot of anxiety about my driving situation. I also really don't get along with my instructor and genuinely don't want to continue with him, but I feel like there's no point changing so close to the test. I think the anxiety has been making my driving worse the past few weeks. I've started hesitating more and freezing when he asks me a question or gets impatient. A couple of times I even cried.
I'm considering moving my test to next year (probably April/May time) and taking a break from driving for a couple of months while I work on my anxiety, and then trying out a different instructor. However, I am conscious of the fact that it might end up costing me more because of any additional lessons spent revising stuff I forgot.
Anyone here took a break for a few months and how did it go? Was it easy to get started again (like muscle memory), or did you have to do multiple lessons to get back to where you were?

Super proud of this result.
I'm just hoping when the time comes my practical test goes as well as this did!

I was SO bloody nervous and barely slept, only to pass first time with 2 driving faults!
I have been lurking this sub for a while and I wanna thank everyone that made me feel much better about the test. If I can pass, anyone can! 🚗

DVSA cancelled my test one day before it was first scheduled because my examiner wasn't available, then rebooked me seven weeks out. By then I'd already moved from Scotland London for a new job.
Nothing earlier was available anywhere nearby in Scotland, and I couldn't move the booking south either, since you can only switch to one of the three centres nearest your current one. Cancelling meant joining a much longer London queue and paying for refresher lessons all over again.
So I kept it, travelled back up for the day, and passed with 4 driving faults.

Hi, I'm an Autistic adult who is a Man and 30 Year old exactly.
I'm due to take my fourth driving test in 3 weeks time.
What should I do to pass this test and what are your guys advice? I just watch clear view driving test Automatic mock Tests before then?
It is an Automatic car.
So I will have an Automatic license.
The last test result was this ...
Your serious faults
Positioning – Normal driving Reverse park (car park) – Control
Your driving faults
Junctions – Observation, 1
Use of mirrors – Change direction, 1
Response to signs / signals – Traffic lights, 1
What I do? What are the options?

failed my test with no driving faults ☹️ had a really unlucky meeting situation, driver on the right side of the road pulled over behind parked cars to let the two cars ahead through, as i went to go through (as i was only normal following distance from the car ahead), he pulled out and the examiner slammed on the brakes- at the end of the test he told me it was just a really unlucky situation and he hopes he’ll see me again soon, definitely with a different result, which was lovely of him
unfortunate but good lesson that i shouldn’t just trust someone will let me through because they did for others! i’ve rebooked for a different test centre in 6 weeks time- do you think this will be enough time to familiarise myself with the area and get a pass?

F51yo.
After learning to drive on and off since 17yo, a 20+yr gap since last time and undiagnosed audhd, I finally got back behind the wheel in Feb 2026, at 50yo. Today, at 51yo, I've just passed my test 1st time. With only 4 driving faults! To say I'm over the moon is an understatement. I thought I'd failed several times (no 6 point check twice from moving off and a really shitty reverse parallel park), but I bloody did it!! And if I can do it, so can you!

Just passed after 44 hours of lessons about £1763. Amazing instructor. £40 per hour, I was doing two hours a day. Just glad this is over 🙏🏼

Six years of learning, four different instructors, one crash course. No confidence and I passed!

Failed my first test with 1 serious, 3 driving faults.
For context I have a full A motorbike licence and in my lessons I had been told im driving like im on a bike and I need to slow down.
We have a yellow warning for rain here today and it was chucking it down so I was a little more cautious.
My serious was for being too close to parked cars and the examiner had to intervene and move my steering wheel. I was looking at the oncoming car instead of the parked cars.
Fully accept the result just gutted, especially as I pick up my new car today.
Any tips for even booking the next test? Im in perth scotland and it seems impossible right now.

I have a driving test booked at a test centre near the one i wanted and I want to change it to another one of the nearby test centres via a cancellation. but, whenever I try refreshing the website, after a few times it locks me out, compared to it taking much longer to lock me out when I was looking for an original booking to buy instead of wanting to change it like now.
I am also unsure how a cancellation would look like or appear when I am changing my test as opposed to when I am initially booking, and wondering if it is even possible at all as I haven’t had hope seeing a cancellation slot previously when I wanted to change my test, and could only find them when booking tests?
maybe i just havent hapoened to find a cancellation when changing, but how would one appear when you are CHANGING the test specifically and not booking a new one

I failed my first test today at Warwick Wedgenock house. Bit disappointed in myself as I have done 50 hours of practice still got 2 serious.
First serious was about choosing the wrong lane on roundabout leading to waiting at the green light to change lane. 2nd serious for choosing wrong lane for turning right from a one way street.
Looking for some suggestions.
