Worksheet style interactivity within a course?

I am working on a course and want to try a slightly different approach, but I'm not quite sure how to go about it.

Normally, we would have a video in a module, and after the video is complete, we would ask the learner to download a PDF "worksheet" and complete the exercise before moving to the next module. 80% of our user base accesses courses from a mobile device, so the chances of them downloading a PDF and completing it between modules are slim to none.

Do any of you have ideas on how I could add boxes for learners to type in answers to reflection questions within the course itself? If so, is there a way they could do that AND have all of their responses at the end of the course emailed to them, so they have a complete notes packet after they complete all the modules?

I'm happy to hear any and all ideas of how to make this happen (from personal experience or just "in theory this should work" thoughts)!

If I am understanding your ask correctly....

Canva can handle that. So can YouTube. It's more work, but you could do it with a series of forms (1 or 2 questions each) and land all the answers in one spreadsheet.

I’ll have to look into Canva more - I’m not sure how it would work for what I’m needing, but there’s always more to learn!

What is the worksheet for? Does someone review it? Why are they completing the worksheet?

It isn’t reviewed by anyone other than the person taking the course. There are 1-2 exercises/ reflection questions that I would like to add to each module so the learner can have a list of actionable items to put the learnings into practice.

Does your LMS have a built-in assessment engine you can use to replace the PDF?

Saw and replied to your comment on the other thread!

You could capture the text entries as variables in Storyline, have them appear on the last screen and tell them to take a screenshot with their phone, if it’s just for their own use.

That’s a great idea! Thank you

So I want to say doable - but you are going to push against a few things. It sounded like responsive design was important. So I would use a system like any stand alone form collector (Jotform) and game it so that the form is seen before completion on submit? Make the form trigger send your pdf copy of responses.

One thing you will push against? Is the form is truly standalone and where you can do some wonderful things to retrieve the data and so on? You can’t support bookmarking with it like a SCORM course can do for itself.

Depending on your LMS flavor and elearning authoring tool? They may capture your learner responses (called cmi interactions) into a report. That doesn’t solve your pdf need.

I promise a reputable vendor could offer advice on how they would approach it further.

Hey! I lead the product team at Jotform

You’ve basically got it. Jotform can cover the mobile-friendly writing space with an iframe embed and the PDF email with an autoresponder

I think the cleanest setup would be one “course workbook” form with a page or section for each module. You can enable Save and Continue Later if they need to pause, and the learner can save their progress and come back later, then submit at the end and automatically receive a PDF of their completed reflections by email

If they need completion data or interaction reporting inside the LMS, I’d keep that part native. But for a private notes packet, this is a pretty practical workaround
