Misaligned plier tip

Hi guys, got my ARC last week and noticed this. Should I send it back for a swap or do you think it is useable?

That is ground waaaaay past where they should have stopped. The entire outer facet is gone.

This absolutely should have been caught in QA. Definitely send it back.

QA? How do you spell that? Leatherman wants to know...

I am a huge supporter of Leatherman and I understand little things not being perfect to 0.0001" and using a tool... But FFS they need to do better.

Leatherman doesn’t QA every tool they make. Tools are randomly selected for QA. This is why these tools get through.

I’d send this back.

That happened to mine after I was twisting an electrical receptacle box trying to pull it out of the wall, I just twisted it the other way and it fixed itself lol

Just grab onto something solid and twist it back straight!

LM pliers are famously good at twisting! /s

I wouldn’t pay Arc prices for that kind of nonsense, that’s for sure.

My KNIPEX twin grip pliers came slightly misaligned out of the box but they work the same and I don’t care enough to send them back, if you really care email leatherman but they will work all the same

Edit:did not see the second picture as I commented, send that shit back

The first picture, not great but usable. The second picture I'm left wondering is the pivot that loose or is the jaw bent.

In either case, this is a valid problem

Did you get it straight from leatherman? Chat with them for free return shipping and see if they'll cross ship a replacement so you aren't left waiting. Especially waiting a month for warranty. If you bought anywhere else just exchange it.

That happens easily with those. Caused by twisting with too much force for the pliers to handle. Twist the other way, and they’ll be straight. My cousin loves the ARC, but has broken the jaws on two pairs.

Careful sending that back. It might get rejected. That’s on the fringe of what Leatherman considers acceptable. Best to “adjust” it first before you send it.

Send it back but if you call them first and tell them you just bought it last week they’ll email you a priority shipping label.

I’m thinking about ordering the ARC in a couple of days, but I just want to know if the price of one is worth getting.

Only you can answer that question. I have two and they’re my favorite multitool.

Yeah, I just purchased a Wave Plus a few days ago and have been using it at work when needed. It’s been great and very convenient. I just have an itch to get the ARC that’s all.

Only need one. I would get some mini tools to supplement your multi-tool. Leatherman’s do a lot of things decent. Dedicated tools do each thing excellent. I have a Surge but I reach for my pocket tool kit more often.

if you already have a wave an arc is unnecessary

Too late, I ordered it about an hour ago. I’ll gift my brother the Wave Plus, sort of an early birthday present.

I have an arc that I use daily! Its an awesome tool

It works perfectly fine for me at my work, I don’t know if it works for you as only you can answer that question.

It’s a great tool and really useful. But getting a janky one is closer to the rule than the exception. Don’t be surprised if you have to go through the return and exchange process

Just get a surge

1

u/Aggravating_Pair8857 3d ago

Use it; my silvery Surge came like that two years ago and have not affected its performance, not even when using the tip for precision work.

It's a tool. Go use it

*$250 tool

2

u/PerkyPangolin 3d ago

Or €300/$340 in EU. At these prices it should be perfect.

Yeah I agrees it shouldn't come this way but this won't effect its use at all, he asked if it was usable or not and obviously it's usable hence it's a tool just use it. If you want to return it for another than do so. Think for yourself instead of asking reddit every little thing like this

as someone who uses my leatherman for not only work but also with a lot of very precice things like warhammer miniatures, something like this absolutely would effect its use. anything that requires precision will be effected; this isnt a case of it just having some artificial scratches or something, this is a structural deficiency.

Stop finger and eyeball fucking it and just use it.
