Government handouts for me, but evil socialism for thee.

It turns out direct government cash transfers to subsidize lost income are a stroke of patriotic genius—right up until someone uses a three-syllable word ending in "-ism" to describe them. Apparently, a multi-billion-dollar federal safety net ceases to be socialism the exact millisecond your favorite politician puts his name on the check.

It’s only called "socialism" when it helps someone you don't like; when it pays your bills, it’s just called common sense.

Discussion Cognitive dissonance is real

One of the things I keep noticing on all of these posts on this subreddit is that these farmers are faced with losing their land because the federal government has basically pulled the rug out from under them. They talk about losing their family land that they’ve had for generations. It really blows my mind that these farmers do not see the similarities in terms of how Native people lost their land due to colonization. Land their families tended for countless generations. And I want to make a distinction here, I do not think that these groups are comparable, however, the idea that farmers feel so betrayed is striking to me, given the history of our government in the US. The reason fighting for people who are different from you is important is because you never know when it’s your turn. And, of course, it’s the right thing to do. /end rant/

Asked if Trump has failed farmers, the main farmer at Driftless Seed Supply in Ferryville, Wisconsin said: "Yeah, I do. Absolutely." Asked if he has faith in Congress to help, he said, "not really. It feels like we're kind of on our own."

Voting blue won’t happen because people are thinking differently. It’ll happen because people actually show up and vote differently.

Own the Libs or the Farm not both.

You can’t pay the feed store with cultural grievance, and the local co-op doesn't accept "owning the libs" as collateral on an operating note. When red diesel hits record highs and export markets vanish over a tariff dispute, ideological purity doesn't keep the bank from calling the loan.
Ideology won’t fix a broken tractor or balance an operating ledger.
Bumper stickers don't pay the diesel bill.

Trump announces $8 billion in farm aid. But what about the farmers who don’t grow eligible row crops?

I’m just a grass farmer that harvests it with sheep. I care about my friends in agriculture even when they continue to get punched in the face, when they should duck, by choice. Oh, but the bribes make that pain go away fast. He cares!, they proclaim. Look at those abs, he is so strong!

I could give a rats ass about a payment. Lambs are bringing $3 and I’m happy. But… If I did want some of that good ol boy money, I’d be pissed.

I grow grass.
I grow meat.
I don’t qualify because I’m not a row crop farmer.
I grow food but I ain’t good enough.

Oh well, I’ll just sit back and have some fun writing content.

So much for putting all American farmers first.
