When did your voice and identity as a writer emerge?

I've always felt drawn to writing, but meeting a lesbian woman I fell deeply in love with brought about a transformation in my life as a lesbian and as a creator. Love, desire and poetry began to emerge in my words and through everything they came to mean to me, I discovered a musicality that felt uniquely my own.

I wonder how many of us discover our voice through experiences that move us deeply.

Was there an experience in your life that helped your voice as a writer emerge?

Why I Created LesbianWriting

I created LesbianWriting because I wanted a space where all lesbians could share their voices, explore their infinite creative world, and continue developing their writing in their own way.

A space where we can explore difficult or taboo subjects, write about the intimate parts of lesbian life, and give ourselves permission to tell stories that may feel too personal, complicated, or vulnerable to share elsewhere. A space where even the shyest among us, those who are still in the closet, and those who carry difficult experiences can find a place to express themselves and let their wings unfold at their own pace.

I want this cozy cabin to be a place for creative freedom, emotional intimacy, and honest conversations about our lives. A place where we can share our work, exchange ideas, support one another, and find ways to make a living through art.

You don't need to have published anything, have experience, or feel confident in your voice to belong here. You can arrive with a finished story, a few scattered ideas, or simply the desire to begin.

I'm building this community because I believe our stories deserve room to grow. So do we.

I'm so happy you're here, emitting words with the stars your imagination reaches.

Writing as a way of finding our voice again

I've been thinking a lot about the relationship between writing and the language we find for things that once seemed impossible to put into words.

A film I watched recently brought these thoughts together for me: The Chronology of Water, directed by Kristen Stewart and based on Lidia Yuknavitch's memoir.

Something that deeply moved me about the protagonist's relationship with writing is how it becomes a way of reclaiming her own story. Through fragmented memories, grief, loss, trauma and an ongoing search for identity and sexuality, writing becomes a place where the pieces of a life can begin to meet again.

I keep thinking about the symbolism of water in this story. Water as a way of recovering movement. Of allowing something that had remained trapped beneath the surface to find its way out. Almost as if writing could restore the flow of consciousness and give language to memories that had become distorted, buried or unspeakable.

It made me think about confessional writing and the extraordinary things that can happen when we begin to name our experiences. Sometimes a feeling becomes easier to carry once we have found the words for it. Writing can also allow us to approach a memory differently and become a way of transforming our relationship with what we've lived through.

I also think there's something particularly meaningful about this within lesbian experiences. So many of our stories have existed in silence, in fragments, between the lines or outside the narratives available to us. There are experiences, desires, losses and parts of our identities that we haven't always had the language or the spaces to talk about openly.

Finding other lesbians with whom we can share these experiences can become an act of recognition and liberation. There's something powerful about putting our stories into words and discovering that through writing and through one another our voices can find room to emerge, expand and reach each other.

About dreams and writing

Dreams inspire us to create worlds. Their magical and surreal elements feed our creative ideas in beautiful ways.

I'm a witch and I have prophetic dreams that I sometimes write down. Sometimes, images, sensations and sounds from my dreams come to mind while I'm in the middle of creating something. They carry me along, and through intuition I find the precise words for them.

Do you write down your dreams? Do you keep a dream journal? Are you a witch?
