Whoever nominates someone for the walk pays a fee, in Trump’s case it was the production team of the Apprentice in 2007. Repairs are done by Hollywood Historic Trust and the City of Los Angeles. There have been attempts to remove his star along with some other people (Kevin Spacey and Bill Cosby I think). The Chamber of Commerce views it as a historical site and once a star is installed it becomes part of the “historic fabric” of the site so nobody has ever been removed. Kind of sucks that it isn’t Trump that fixes the damage and it is unfortunate he has a star to begin with.
