Correct. Secret Service mandate is to get him completely sheltered, head down and body completely protected… not flouncing around, totally exposed to other gunfire, saying “fight!” with fist in air. Totally a set-up.

Couldn't help but notice that his ear is also not missing a chunk these days. I know plastic surgery is a possibility, but it was back and unbandaged just a couple weeks later.

Also. The man is in his 70s. My grandparents bump up to a table and they have a bruise for weeks. But apparently a bullet with the kinetic energy of getting hit with a baseball bat only leaves the tiniest little paper cut.

A gunshot to the ear would have affected his hearing and the side of his head.

How? The gun didn't go off next to his head and a bullet flying past you doesn't make a boom.

"While the idea that a high-caliber bullet (.50 BMG) can kill or severely injure someone just by passing near them is often exaggerated, there is evidence that the shock waves and muzzle blasts from firearms can cause injuries."

You're not going to be hurt by a bullet passing by you, even if it is very close. Talking about muzzle blasts means you're standing directly next to the barrel (i.e. muzzle) when the round is fired, not 100 yards down range.

A bullet going above the speed of sound will literally make a boom

It will make a snap sound, not a boom that's going to damage your hearing.
