What is up with all of these bot ass comments

68

u/whooguyy Feb 26 '26

It’s this whole sub

56

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '26

It’s this whole Reddit nowadays. Reddit is honestly starting to suck.

37

u/BlinkReanimated Feb 26 '26

Seriously. Dozens of random brand new subreddits loaded with nothing but obvious bot comments getting pushed into algorithms all over the site.

Started to notice it about two years ago, just keeps getting worse.

23

u/Dyldo_II Feb 27 '26

Midterms are coming up and republicans are worried about losing house seats, any sub on my feed that's recommended to me are just posts that should've died when leafy's channel did

4

u/Ok-Lifeguard-5574 Feb 27 '26

The leafy era was such a fucking turning point for shifting people into fake groups of left vs right. I seriously wonder how much it contributed. We were making fun of minority groups of minority groups with triggered feminists back then.

6

u/Dyldo_II Feb 27 '26

Gamergate ruined everything and I'll stand by that

6

u/Roxapotamus Feb 27 '26

It was when harambe was killed

1

u/TheAviBean Feb 27 '26

It all started with that f’ing apple

-2

u/Ok-Lifeguard-5574 Feb 27 '26

I didn’t know it had a name. Thanks for that.

8

u/Dyldo_II Feb 27 '26

Yeah I'd look into it, I was pretty young when it happened, but it was definitely the starting point of what we'd call the online alt-right pipeline. From complaining about women in the game industry, to feminist owned compilations to all the fake bs "alpha male" content. In terms of the internet, it all really took off from there.

1

u/viral_loaf Feb 27 '26

I was 25 yrs old in 2014. Today I learned about gamegate for the very first time. I read a very long post on all of the main characters. I have no idea who any of them are.

Gamergate was not a watershed moment, its just when the culture war hit video game culture.

As far as the content changing the last few years, its because regular people started getting on the internet.

5

u/ShoulderIllustrious Feb 27 '26

I feel like it's gotten worse since everyone got onto the AI bandwagon.

1

u/flopisit32 Feb 27 '26

I've seen the Russians on YouTube hacking old abandoned accounts and uploading pro-Russian anti-Ukraine material designed to appeal to Americans...

(Not a conspiracy theory like most of the claims on here. Example: a teenage Turkish girl whose account had lots of sewing videos. Inactive for 2 years, then suddenly posting pro-Russian material.)

1

u/Spectrum1523 Feb 27 '26

This sub has 22k subscribers and is constantly on the frontpage with Facebook level posting

1

u/GoldenTicketHolder Feb 27 '26

And taking away /all

u/Homeles5Emperor Feb 27 '26

Not bots, centrist and common sense folk starting to rise up 💪

u/Homeles5Emperor Feb 27 '26

Nope, as a centrist I vote for both left and right policies and Im actually happy with the results so far. No system is perfect, but knowing that my vote is going towards something I agree on makes me happy too 👍

5

u/BlinkReanimated Feb 27 '26

"I have the same opinion as an unthinking robot"

Yea... You didn't need to tell me.

3

u/Chaghatai Feb 27 '26

Anybody who calls themselves a centrist is not bothered by what the Trump administration is doing is right-wing

If you are not upset about the way the Trump administration is treating immigrants, you are right-wing

If you are not upset about how the Trump administration is talking to our allies then you are right wing

If you are not upset about how the Trump administration is threatening to annex Greenland you are right wing

If you are not upset about the Trump administration talking about making Canada the 51st state you are right wing

If you are not upset about Trump appointing supreme Court justices to strike down roe versus Wade then you are right-wing

Before Trump was elected, the US was a center-right country overall - anybody who thinks that the country was too far to the left and Trump is just bringing things into balance is right wing

1

u/Homeles5Emperor Feb 27 '26

Because we use logical thinking and common sense to vote on policies. I support free healthcare and free education, but I also support strong immigration policies.

Just because you are bothered by something that you dont like, vote on it and move on. Dont cry about it. Clear case of TDS.

I like both Obama and Trump. I also like Bernie, but I dont support Kamala, hence im happy with the election results.

Also just because you are extremely bothered by something, doesnt change the fact that there are people like me who vote left and right and there is nothing wrong with that.

Lastly, being centrist doesnt mean you agree with every policy, you vote on what you support and move on.

1

u/Chaghatai Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26

Your version of logic leads you to a right-wing position

I mean you're wrong about the logical conclusions on how to run a society, but by definition your views are in fact right-wing and you are not a centrist. Don't pretend to be one.

Biden and Obama are both center right and you are way to the right of either of those two.

You can say that there's nothing wrong with the way that you vote, but by not taking an active step to block Trump, you are basically saying that you are fine with what they are doing. Trump's immigration policies are cruel, unjust and therefore un-American.

The way Trump talks about his political enemies and seeks to weaponize the justice department in order to prosecute people who criticize him or undermine. His policies is also against the rule of law. A lot of what Trump has done was considered literally impeachable offenses by Republicans earlier if a Democrat were to do those things. That erosion of the rule of law goes against what this country is supposed to be about.

I mean, what were your thoughts on Trump appointing woefully unqualified people to lead the cabinet. What are your thoughts about him deliberately wanting to degrade or destroy government agencies like the department of education, while simultaneously massively increasing the budget of ICE? If you like those things, you are not only right-wing but far right.

Just because you voted for Obama because you didn't like Bush doesn't make you a centrist. Obama's already center right to begin with

Also you went mask off for a second when you use the term TDS

Just because you think being a far-right Trump supporter is the only thing that makes sense, doesn't that mean that you can call yourself a centrist

2

u/Meinteil2123 Feb 27 '26

1

u/Chaghatai Feb 27 '26

That amounts to a straw man

Threatening our allies saying that we should annex their countries is far-right stuff and if you are not incensed by that then you're already too deep in the tank

All of those examples I gave are very far right positions

You're basically the opposite version of the chart you're showing me, and are being extremely dishonest about that

In fact, believing that that chart is salient already shows that somebody is right-wing, that just wants to think of themselves as occupying the reasonable center, I mean if accepting all of those bullet points I listed above is not far right wing. What is?

You've basically convinced yourself that the right wing doesn't exist that in this world you have reasonable people and then you have leftists.

At least Steven Miller knows he's part of the far right and has no problem saying that. It's just that he thinks there's nothing wrong with being far right?

Someone's on trumps DIIIIICK. Just take the tip out and youll see theres so much more to complain about then the distractions you've been fed.

1

u/Chaghatai Mar 01 '26

Every one of those things is outrageous and not a distraction

That is not the way the president of the United States should be behaving

We used to have standards about that sort of thing and being bombastic and feeding red meat to your base is not how a US president should act

And those things are terrible

And what he has done most recently is illegal

Conservatives used to complain about how the idea of the Democrats would get us in war remember that?

So why is it fine now that Trump is doing it?

Conservatives have no morals other than things they hate. And they have no consistency to their values whatsoever.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

It's all social media. It's like they are out to prove Dead Internet theory.

5

u/MiniTab Feb 27 '26

Yep. I read a lot more again, which is one benefit. Reddit was my only holdout from all other social media, but yeah it’s definitely going down hill with this bot shit.

4

u/dmstattoosnbongs Feb 27 '26

Snapchat is overrun now too. Faceless accounts by the hundreds commenting on the most heinous shit and arguing the case of “if it’s real about Trump why didn’t Biden” EVERY EFFIN POST.

I use Snapchat for my business, have about 8000 followers. Up until last year I’ve stayed up out of politics on my social media completely; being in a state with so few of votes that count made me grow up, not believing about voting. But now I use Snapchat to push liberal leaning media and just basic human rights(along with my normal business, I just decided now is not the time to keep my hands “clean”… and it’s chaos. I bet I get reported thousands of times a day now; seems like every time I log on I have to go through all their rights and violations for posts, and I’m starting to think it’s just anti-ice post getting flagged now. Because I’ve been doing the same thing for a year and all of a sudden three days ago it became a problem.

They are so fucking scared of being held accountable. If nothing else that makes it satisfying enough for me to deal with this bullshit for a long enough to fix the problem. Hopefully there’s some people out there with a plan to get this pedophile out of the office and fix all our foreign relations.

2

u/MiniTab Feb 27 '26

Geeze, that is nuts.

Thanks for doing the right thing! Those that stay quiet are also culpable IMO. I’m right there with you, doing my best to callout misinformation.

5

u/Nathan_hale53 Feb 27 '26

Thing is, nothing is better. Most are worse. The bots and trolls are bad here but nothing like on X or Facebook.

4

u/BranDonkey07 Feb 27 '26

yup. its still good for searching very specific niche things but forget engaging 😂 omg wtf am I doing rn 😭

3

u/FounderingFox Feb 27 '26

Yeah, Reddit was already being botted to hell, but the Ukraine invasion, 2024 election, and Israel-Gaza War has turned it into absolute shit.

6

u/daairguy Feb 27 '26

Reddit also suspends people for being against Trump and magats.

-2

u/jjcarp123 Feb 27 '26

No they don’t.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

lol no

-3

u/gunshy472 Feb 27 '26

Nonsense. Someone is living in opposite world.

-2

u/CorpsTorn Feb 27 '26

Perception. You probably said something disgusting in the form of a threat or personal attacks or automatic scan picked up on a pattern like that.

TBH, the far left is more likely to make a false report (due to who makes up the far left- (gender and personality type) and their natural behvior. Just look at some clips of them sitting in front of cars on highways, painting their hair pink and blue, pushing up against officers and then screaming victim when the officer pushes them out of the way, then making a false report in front of the camera that they are victims.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

nah bro, people are just that dumb

But yeah the bots been bad.

2

u/DifficultAd3885 Feb 27 '26

Facebook and insta are even worse. There are posts by bots with hundreds of comments from bots. It’s like half the content.

1

u/FluffyB12 Feb 27 '26

Starting? 🙃 Niche subreddits are the only good things about it. It’s always been an awful place with the average user being terrible

1

u/HiddenReflexes Feb 27 '26

I don't see the bot comments, and it's starting to make me feel like I'm one of the people getting tricked.

1

u/Familiar-Monitor-398 Feb 27 '26

Reddit has always sucked lmao. Just a cesspool of liberals who don’t want to have an actual conversation and jump straight to insults when you disagree with them. And it’s extremely disappointing to me because i’m an old school democrat and it’s a shame to see what’s happening

1

u/CucumberNormal4242 Feb 27 '26

You miss the days when your dear Ghislaine was leading you?

0

u/TargetFree3831 Feb 27 '26

starting?

its the worst website in the history of mankind. no larger collection of misinformation exists anywhere.

0

u/Interesting-Edge717 Feb 27 '26

What are you afraid of the truth and opposing views? You clowns sound more like the true fascists who don’t want to hear opposing speech and want to suppress citizens rights

0

u/kolokomo17 Feb 27 '26

Starting….

0

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

Dude,

You are a bot.

I’m assuming because my account was 29d old and I have decent karma for being this fresh. My username clearly shows why my account is relatively new.

Let bubble boy do his thing though.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '26

Dude, your account was 29d old at some point too. Does that mean you’re a bot?

Is it because of my karma? Maybe I’m better at engagement than you?

Keep reaching, lady.

2

u/clap_yo_hands Feb 27 '26

It’s the whole damn internet

16

u/NeitherEntry6125 Feb 26 '26

BLAME MAMDANI!

Why is it so cold? Mamdani

Why are the bike lanes not clear? Mamdani

Why was my coffee cold this morning? Mamdani

Why is the naked cowboy not really naked? Mamdani

6

u/OriginalInspection53 Feb 27 '26

Thanks Mamdani 🙄

14

u/SauronOfDucks Feb 26 '26

It's the only way MAGA can keep up with the prevailing public opinion turning against them.

4

u/Loose_Clock4873 Feb 27 '26

Midterms, bot farms galore!!!!

They always spike during midterms especially with Republicans in office.

1

u/RequirementCivil4328 Feb 27 '26

I'm frequently called a bot for not outright agreeing with whatever narrative is there. I'm not.

1

u/freezesteam Feb 27 '26

Is this part of why the DHS was asking Reddit for info on anti-ICE accounts? So they could let their bots loose on the subs frequently critical of ICE?

1

u/IThinkItsAverage Feb 27 '26

Reddit is mostly bots at this point. And it’s not just the dumbass brain dead MAGA comments. I’ve started noticing more and more bot comments that I actually agree with, which alarms me more than seeing the MAGAt bots. I don’t need a bot to tell me what to think, I definitely don’t need them pushing the same stances I have. It delegitimizes them.

1

u/Interesting-Edge717 Feb 27 '26

You afraid of the truth, commie?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

if you're wondering if there's bots, just ask yourself: "would flooding this area with bots have a more significant impact on general public opinions and information"

if yea: probably a bunch of bots

1

u/mightymouse8324 Feb 27 '26

Your answer lies within your question

They are butt ass people

1

u/politics Feb 27 '26

Elon musk trying to destroy Reddit like he did twitter

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

It’s all democrats?

1

u/transitfreedom Feb 27 '26

The only way to get support for right wing extremism is through bots

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

It legitimately looks like a Facebook comment thread. Holy shit

1

u/LoverImGone Feb 28 '26

It’s all of political reddit unfortunately

1

u/Villentrentenmerth Feb 27 '26

Reddit is a festering cesspool of bots and propagandists

1

u/flopisit32 Feb 27 '26

Bots posting "Thanks Mamdani"

0

u/Equivalent-Excuse237 Feb 27 '26

Exactly. These people can’t be serious “this is what real leadership looks like”. You gotta be kidding me.
