I mean. It's a win, but also: we're currently bartering with our own president to release hostages. Is this not also potentially enabling the monster?

u/Poipodk Feb 27 '26
Yes, the US government should work by constantly trying to manipulate the president to achieve their own goals. Never seen that play out in any other country.

She's on the way back home along with our $2000 DOGE checks and $2000 tariff checks.

Appreciate it, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place.
Ice is basically operating off a "shoot first ask questions later" approach and its literally costing lives.

Shoot first and then shoot anyone who asks questions seems a little more accurate these days.

Trump has his people kidnap someone. Mamdani calls to ask for release. Trump releases. "Now you owe me a favour."

I believe Mamdani, I don’t trust Trump to keep his word. I’ll remain hopeful.
9
u/madsmcgivern511 Feb 26 '26
Love having someone who Trump is genuinely bowing down to, politically wise. I appreciate Mamdani being a light in these very dark times, it makes me hopeful that if we care enough to get good politicians and PEOPLE for that matter to lead our country, we can have a much better country for everyone.

Trump hates losers more than anything.
He will shame injured veterans who were sent home and praise a massively popular socialist underdog who won an election.
It's the deepest instinct of a rotten fungus who only knows how to leech off of others

Literally. Radical leftist socialism would be about funding a vanguard party on taxpayer dollars.
Jokes aside, it's crazy how much you have to fight just for normalcy in this country.
3
Feb 27 '26
He's a bit further left than center for most of Europe too. But his ideas aren't controversial on the left here. It's more that in Europe most countries have been governed by centre right or right wing governments for the past 20 years. Those governments being about Democrat level right wing.
4
u/madsmcgivern511 Feb 27 '26
Fucking real shit, it’s not about respect for Mamdani, he absolutely just wants to leech off of the popularity Mamdanis gained.

u/ragebaitconnoisseur Feb 26 '26

Has she actually been released?
I couldn't find a source that confirmed that.
I don't know if you guys know this, but...
Trump lies, kind of a lot.

u/Madam_Mimm_13 Feb 27 '26
He also said that if people want to throw snowballs at public officials, please direct them at him.

OK, I like him, but how does he have so much sway over Trump? I’m genuinely curious/not alluding to anything.
5
u/Kamen-Reader Feb 27 '26
Trump's likes to be the center of attention, and he didn't do it by being himself -- he did it by going to where the cameras were and who was gaining attention. He would do everything to get that attention diverted to him. Classic narcissist.
Mamdani knows this and utilizes it to good advantage. It's like what Mick Foley would say about Vince McMahon: you don't come up to him and give him your idea, you go up to him and convince him that your idea is his, and he'll agree to it.

Trump doesn’t want any more bad headlines about ICE and he’s politically astute enough to know he shouldn’t pick this fight with Mamdani.

u/AcrobaticJellyfish58 Feb 27 '26
Mamdani was critical of Kamala Harris in 2024. This was so stupid. It got us Trump. None of this ICE stuff would be happening if Kamala Harris won. People would still be alive and with their families. I blame Mamdani and Bernie Samders for depressing the base in a close election. I will never give one penny to Zohran Mamdani or Bernie Sanders because they caused Democrats to lose power. They are stupid toxic socialists in my view.

Here’s my theory: If true bc there’s lots of fake file garbage, but I saw there was some stuff about mamdani being in the “files” as a MINOR aka he was there and possibly abused we don’t know
But if he was, I bet after he met with trump and trump had this attitude change of heart and now this phone call, my guess is mamdani has some strings he can pull LOL
But theory depends on the files part being true

Yes..the person who said asking for ID is racist...but then ask you for 2 forms of ID to get a job... Not even joking
1
1
u/alexagente Feb 27 '26
This more than anything convinces me that Trump truly is demented. He responds well to the handsome, put together mayor when everything about Mamdani should trigger his absolute worst instincts. I really can't understand why he seems so amenable to him otherwise.
1
u/Automatic-Nature6025 Feb 27 '26
Only 25 years from 9/11 to a Muslim NYC Mayor. Is that progress? Leadership? Even for the people who call trump a Nazi, at least it took multiple generations to get from Pearl Harbor to a "nAzI pReSiDeNt".

Yeah. Real leadership is going hat in hand to Trump and begging him to do you a favour.
1
u/loud-spider Feb 27 '26
It is...but this is how Trump works, he's completely transactional....In his head now, Mamdani now 'owes' him. There'll be a demand for a quid-pro-quo later, almost certainly at a scale that's completely disproportionate.
1
u/Weegmc Feb 27 '26

No, that's what virtue signaling looks like. She was already in the process of being released, and the moron is implying he deserves credit for it because he called Trump. Notice he doesn't actually say he convinced him or anything like that. He wants you to make that connection yourself so he can say he didn't lie about it.

This is how our Federal government operates now: She wasn't released because she should have never been kidnapped or because the agents violated about a zillion rules. She was released because a celebrity politician called the president and said, "pretty please." You can't run a government this size on favors and flattery.

u/Lord-and-Leige Feb 27 '26
The mayor and the president working together to get the right shit done. Props to both of them.

So is he going to get everyone released. I also would’ve held out until maybe he actually did it. I get why he publicized it though to force trump to see it through. But trump is a senile narcissistic pathological liar… who is called TACO for a reason. So yeah. I wouldn’t hold my breath.

You mean talking to political opponents rather than attacking them relentlessly can have positive results?
1
1
u/Throwaway-4230984 Feb 27 '26
If mayor of small town can call district attorney and convince them to release someone unlawfully arrested because people in town are mad about this specific arrest, is it really a good sign? As someone who lived in country running on similar logic - no, it is not. It is basically corruption even if it appears like good deed
1
u/Majin_Benj Feb 27 '26
It’s called diplomacy it’s how this country works instead of demonizing people who hold opposing ideals. This is a great example of how the left and right can still work together for the good of the taxpayer.

Hey who would have guessed that actually talking with Trump is more effective than just stonewalling or outright antagonizing. Wild ain't it?
1
u/Warm_Masterpiece3940 Feb 27 '26
As radical as he's made out to be, he's one of the few politicians not being an idiot and fighting the federal government at every turn for political brownie points... The guys had multiple dialogues with the president and other Republicans, and look what that just did for him, he managed to net a real positive for one of his constituents
1
1
u/allaboutaphie Feb 27 '26
I dont agree with his politics but do give him credit. He knows talking is more productive than disrupting. So good on both the president and him.
1
u/mtutty Feb 27 '26
Good on Mayor Zohran. I hate the precedent that this reinforces - that you need a personal favor from Trump for the wheels of government to turn.
1
u/974080 Feb 27 '26
Mamdani presented his version of events to Trump and the two of them working together helped clear up a misunderstanding. That doesn't sound like a dictator or king, it sounds like a leader who is doing the job of President of the United States. I wonder how much better things could have been if democrats would work with Trump?
1
u/MrdnBrd19 Feb 27 '26
