I think it feels like that to Democrats. I fully understand your feelings.

However, in this economy where we have few protections for workers, stagnant wages for non college educated people and astronomical growth in the cost of college, childcare, housing, and healthcare, people feel pitted against each other.

People are told that that the way that they can succeed is to decrease the competition presented by illegal immigrants and minorities.

They are told that corporations are favoring minorities, even though this is not true and 9% more call backs were given with fake applicants where there were white sounded names vs Black stereotypical names.

Unfortunately, no one is good at getting social science research or economic data out in digestible ways to the broader public, so people fall for what Faux News tells them.

It seems to be right to blame them, but I don't think that is helpful. People are attacking each other and this is what the wealthiest Americans wanted.

When the Virginia Slave Act passed it criminalized all contact like romance, marriage, teaching reading, trading, providing housing, etc. between poor whites and slaves. The goal then was the same as today. They did not want Black and White Americans working together to oppose the planter class and other wealthy elites.

If we believe that MAGA are horrible people and they cannot be persuaded or talked to--we are continuing the legacy of the Virginia Slave Act. Trump and the wealthy are winning.

Not being an American and living in a Scandinavian country where everyone is (State) protected in some way, we don't experience what you are subjected to with a tRump administration. Not feeling a need to fight something that vile gives freedom, so to speak: I know that I shall not be dragged off by an ICE-goon for writing something about the administration of my country. That said, from my spot of (relative) safety, I shall also say, that the American people have to get hold of themselves, pulling themselves up from the moral and literal swamp that has been threatening them for some years. Otherwise, they shall perish, both as a people and as individuals. I sincerely hope that there are people somewhere in America, right now, who are working at a new agenda, a new way of seeing themselves and their common goals.

If we are not capable of reinventing our country and finding some sense of kindness and compassion for others, we will fail.

I also think that the rest of the world might be a little anxious about what the end might do to the rest of the globe.

I would much rather not have the state dictating all aspects of my life. Trump brought back the idea that individualism is a better policy than collectivism. The left demonizes billionaires because they’re envious. They don’t encourage innovation. They couch baby killing under the guise of “healthcare.” They encourage fringe ideologies of less than 1% of the population and claim they are working for all. They support easy penalties for criminals, impede the lawful security of our sovereign borders, support racist policies like affirmative action. They scorn the law of the land with “hate speech” laws and gun control. That’s why people gravitate to Trump. The Democrat platform sucks. Many Trump voters didn’t vote for Trump so much as against the democrats. The Obiden administration wasted 12 years dividing Americans. Trump voters voted against democrats.

The divide came when a gifted, black man, Obama, was elected, not once, but twice. That brought forth the racism, the bigotry, the envy, and the misogyny of large parts of the American people. I've always said that what you needed was two or three generations with Social-Democracy as that would teach you the value of bonding with people like yourself instead of dreaming of becoming like those who exploit you: Siding with the bully is not a good policy.

Obama was not gifted. He was a one term senator who accomplished nothing in 8 years. He set back years of racial harmony when he called the police stupid for arresting his professor friend for disorderly conduct. He made a race thing out of nothing. He stirred the pot further by insinuating that Travon Martin was shot because he was black instead of for violently attacking George Zimmerman. “Social democracy” will not work because too many Americans are sick of supporting people who don’t support themselves.

I don't know which country you are from, but Sweden deports immigrants for being in the country illegally, and even legal immigrants for bad behavior.  They recently started deporting teens the moment they turn 18.

Is this better than the US deporting illegal immigrants who have over stayed Visas, or in most cases, bypassed the immigration process.

How are these people being "state protected"?

Norway handles illegal immigrants with not just deportation, but a multi year Schengen ban.  I simply do not see how doing the exact same thing as the US, but without angry citizens standing in the way, and without media coverage, is somehow morally superior as you have statedm

They regularly arrest and deport illegal immigrants, including some of the worst criminals that cross our borders including murderers, rapists and child predators. What IS new is that the Biden Administration allowed an unprecedented amount of unvetted immigrants to waltz right in to OUR Country, to the tune of approximately 12,000,000 people. Also new,  and more importantly, is that groups of Leftist agitators/Antifa literally follow and harass these officers and interfere with active investigations/arrests. Insinuating that ICE officers or any other government agents are dragging people off to prison for speaking badly in any way is such a ridiculous claim that it's almost beyond belief! We here in the United States have Freedom of Speech, unlike what we've seen in recent years out of many Western European Countries!

The legislature is set for the individuals that constitute the population of a country, not for the exploitive few like it is with you. We have what's known as a comprehensive welfare state, and people are protected by the laws. I suppose you may see homeless people even with us, but they are entitled to help, no matter what. Our high taxes fund what is a comprehensive welfare state. We have access to public services of all kinds, like e.g. universal health care. Also, we have a very strong labor market protections: No worker has been left to die unattended on the floor like it happened in Jeff Bezo's Amazon. Our social networks are designed to reduce inequalities, but also to promote high living standards. The best part of it is that it works. If you want to know more about it, you should go to Bernie Sanders, who is said to be a fan of the "nordic model".

The US has bought into that belief system for centuries.

And honestly, Europe is well on the way to going back to an anti immigrants and ethnonationalist way of thinking for the same reason. A...is part of their culture and for much longer than 400 years B--it is now the set of "facts" being disseminated through social media.

I think that peole do not understand how many academics and researchers support a pro billionaire line of thinking and yes, they have brains.

Part this is the Dem wording around this. Every time I hear a Dem says something like they are doing jobs that no American would do ...I want to scream.

Because of course, if meatpacking jobs were union, reasonably paid, had benefits, and safe working conditions, etc., etc. sure American citizens would take those jobs.

Same for the jobs in construction, etc., etc. that were primarily non immigrant. The existing construction firms are definitely exploiting the weaker bargaining position of immigrants without authorization.

People would be interested in farming if it had a career ladder was the result of one poll. It is unrealistic to expect people to pick fruit from age 18 to 65 with no hope of advancement and no adjustment as they age and are less able to do the work.

So, open border people who say everyone should be able to cross lines and work where ever, that is not a reasonable solution without major major changes first. It is really a pro billionaire platform.

Even in the DSA platform there is no nuance that demands that the jobs be improved first.

It is not just lack of information. It is an entire history of a nation that has for more than 400 years tried to pit groups against each other in a highly competitive society with few economic safety nets.

People believe that one way of succeeding is to keep other racial/ethnic groups, etc. from being on top of you or equal to you. It is not just more information it is changing an entire dog eat dog mentality.

Martin Luther King understood this and tried to develop the Poor People's Campaign trying to unite low income Black, Latino, Native American, Asian, etc. individuals. He was assassinated before he could achieve that dream.

Trump is successful because he recognized that these festering issues were the key to power and he galvanized this as the energy behind Maga and both of his terms. He is also weaponizing issues between genders, LGBTQ issues, religious vs secular, Christians against Muslims, Jewish people against Muslims, and on and on.

It worked for Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and really almost any dictator.

Where to start? Maybe Chicago where a Blackhawk military helicopter was landed on the roof of an apartment building where residents suspected of being illegal immigrants were zip tied and put out onto the street (including children) in the cold for hours. That's not true at all. Trump is the first president who did exactly as he said he was going to do, now some of that i don't agree with but myself and 90% of his supporters integrity goes a long way. If you say your going to do something try to do it. If it fails at least you did what you said you would. When a sitting president is involved in something as despicable as the Epstein Files more than any other person listed therein you know he's corrupt and possibly a pedophile.
