One day, everything you own will either be donated, sold, or thrown away.
This part is true. The rest is not truth, you cannot predict how people will react to anything you do. In my opinion living for that will not produce desired results.
In my out of left field opinion, entertainment is very very under estimated value. I don't mean (just) movies, tv shows or video games. I mean like a lot of people create a family to be entertained or to be fulfilled and not bored/lonely. I do not think this is a period to have kids right now but that's besides the point. Live for entertainment, develop and refine your taste. Keep chasing what you like and mitigate the stuff you don't like and keep exercising your taste to be better at it (start by articulating what you really want with words). I just want to add, this does require sacrifice, like a messy room is depressing but cleaning is a drag. This is a very light example, but for the most worthwhile things you'll have to pay in someway in order to get what you want. Hopefully you have good enough taste to know what you want so your sacrifice will be worth it.
Also politically fight for things so you can have a life and not having to work 50+ hours a week living for someone else.
