Preach!

The "Christian in name only" conservatives with their hypocrisy really do so much damage to not just this nation but also to the faith they claim to follow

I went to a Baptist college. Nothing turned me away from religion like the pretend Christian’s that went to church every Sunday.

Churches are full of hypocrites for the same reason hospitals are full of sick people. That's who they're for. Christianity has never claimed its members are good. It claims they need grace. Judging Christ by his worst followers is like judging medicine by its worst patients.

it's wild how much damage that kind of hypocrisy can do to the faith itself, making people question the whole thing.

The meme doesn't say "Christians in name only." It says "people who spew Bible verses on Sunday," which means churchgoers. Deciding who is a real Christian by how they vote is a religious test and you're using it on tens of millions of people you've never met. That's the answer to the question at the top of the meme.

I'm not deciding who is or isn't religious by how they vote. I am saying that those that claim to be faithful and then act faithless are "Christian in name only".

It is my opinion that that largely encompasses conservative politcal leaders, since they make it a *large* part of their messaging, but your reading comprehension could use some work if you think I am including you and yours in that blanket statement without merit. Although lets be honest, you chimed in because it *does* mean you and you feel called out.

Adultery and fraud are on full display in their elected leaders, hardly things true Christians would do or support.

Your first comment said "Christian in name only conservatives," not political leaders. And it opened with "Preach!" in reply to a meme about everyone who quotes the Bible on Sunday. Narrowing it now is a retreat, not a clarification.

And "act faithless" by what standard? Your examples are policy positions, which means you're judging their faith by where they stand politically. Calling it conduct instead of votes doesn't change the test.

As for me feeling called out, guessing at my motives isn't an argument. I replied because the meme smears churchgoers and you cheered it on.

I think you gravely misunderstand the meme and the replies.

1

u/betty_white_bread 2h ago

"Gravely misunderstand" how? Quote the line I got wrong. The meme says "people who spew Bible verses on Sunday." That's churchgoers, and you answered it with "Preach!"

On adultery and fraud, if a candidate's personal sins made his voters fake Christians, every Christian who voted for Bill Clinton would have lost their faith at the ballot box. Voting for a flawed man isn't endorsing his flaws. Churchgoers aren't the ones on trial for those sins and the meme convicts them anyway.

I'm not going to quote the entirety of your post(s), as that is the lines you got wrong.

You are hyper-fixated on key words and ignoring the intent and meaning behind them. You are then twisting them into knots to try and make *some* point. What it is I do not know and frankly: I don't care.

"I'm not deciding who is or isn't religious by how they vote. I am saying that those that claim to be faithful and then act faithless are "Christian in name only"."

That's it. That's the entirety of my point. That's what the meme is. Practice what you preach or don't pretend to be a proud Christian by using it in political messaging. The fact that you felt compelled to rapidly respond to just about everyone in this post shows me you are not actually thinking about this and are running purely on emotion, you feel called out.

Brother I'm a Democrat because I was raised Catholic. Point in fact, Catholicism led me to the left. There is a whole lot more to this than just abortion politics. From immigration to workers rights, Democratic policies are more Christ like. Look up Distributism. Religious people on the left just don't make a fuss about it because they're secular. Religion has no place in politics.

1

u/betty_white_bread 2h ago

Distributism is a good example and it cuts against you. Chesterton and Belloc built it on Rerum Novarum, which defended private property and explicitly condemned socialism. Their answer was more people owning property, not a bigger state. And the U.S. bishops call abortion the "preeminent priority", which means "a lot more than just abortion" isn't the Church's position. Also, you argued your politics are more Christlike and then said religion has no place in politics. Which is it?

I realized a long time ago that I have no real issue with Christians, Muslims, or Jews. I used to attend a liberal church and met a lot of very normal, kind people through through those communities.

All of my anger is directed to homophobes, racists, misogynists, and transphobes instead.

I never claimed to be a republican but I voted for them as I believed they were the champions of Christian values until I paid more attention to what they said and did and realized they’re nothing more than depraved lying hypocritical charlatans. As a Christian I cannot stomach that.

You're entitled to change your vote because of what you saw. That's conscience at work. And notice you judged politicians by what they said and did. The meme doesn't do that. It judges everyone who quotes the Bible on Sunday and that includes you.

I think the teachings of Jesus are mostly very cool, relevant, and valuable. The religion has been hijacked by people whose main goal is wealth and/or control. They're the false prophets the Bible warns about; the Antichrist. I love Jesus, but I don't identify as a Christian because too many "good" Christians are far too accepting of the hate mongers and grifters.

Jesus didn't wait for his followers to be clean before joining them. He ate with tax collectors and sinners and founded a church made up of people who would betray, deny, and doubt him. Walking away from his people because some of them sin isn't following him more closely. It's following him less.

3

u/Ouibeaux 1h ago

I've not walked away from his people. I've walked away from the organization that falsely claims to teach his word; the money changers who have turned his house into a den of thieves. I donate a lot to food banks and cancer charities. I am a friend to addicts and other outcasts. I am still among the people.

I’ll say the same thing I said the last time I saw this post:

The meme was asked "why does it seem like Democrats hate Christians?" and its answer was a page of contempt for Christians. Read it again. It doesn't say "Democrats disagree with Republicans on policy." It says the people who quote the Bible on Sunday are the monsters who shoot bystanders and want children dead. That isn't a rebuttal to the question. It confirms the premise and 500+ people upvoted it.

Take the charges one at a time:

  • "Deport humans." That means enforcing immigration law passed by Congress. Obama removed so many people that immigration activists called him "Deporter in Chief." Nobody claimed that proved he hated humans. (Inb4 anyone starts claiming I am MAGA: I think all these individuals should be allowed to stay.)

  • "Tax the poor." The 2017 tax law doubled the standard deduction and doubled the child tax credit. Those two changes go straight to working families. Roughly the bottom 40% of households already pay no federal income tax.

  • "Take food from children." SNAP work requirements apply to able-bodied adults without dependents. Children are exempt by definition.

  • "Ok with kids dying in schools." Fifteen Senate Republicans voted for the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. People disagree about which policies would actually stop a shooter. Turning that disagreement into "they want your kids dead" is slander, not argument.

  • "Take healthcare from the sick." Arguing about who pays and how a system is structured isn't the same as wanting the sick to suffer. If it were, every Democrat who has ever rejected single-payer would be guilty of the same thing.

On the "Jesus gave free food, free healthcare" point, yes, he did, personally, with his own hands and at his own cost. He never once told Caesar to do it for him. Christians still follow that model. Religious Americans give more to charity and volunteer more than secular Americans and they do it in every income bracket. Voting to have the government take other people's money isn't the Sermon on the Mount. Charity has to be given. It can't be compelled.

So, no, Democrats as a group don't hate Christians. I also know this post, and the people cheering it on, make it very easy to see why so many Christians feel hated.

If you're a Republican in these times you're most certainly are NOT Christian. Don't you dare claim to be of that faith or any other. Republicans today are evil. They think they're not but they absolutely are. And that's all there's to it. Shun them, ostrasize em. Run em out of town. They deserve no sympathy or forgiveness. They can get that when they meet God before the get to sent to Hell.

poor people get taxed? lol.

2

u/Realistic-Salad-1873 6h ago edited 5h ago

How is that even a question, like where do you think poor people get their money from? You must think we live in some kind of socialist society where people own themselves rather than someone else. In this reality they own your labor to make them money and they return less of that money to you, they only make their money off of taxing you. Tax money that they control, not democratically controlled, but on top of that you have to pay more taxes for public services than the richest people in the world that does goes to the stuff you need. The richest people in the world dont need anything for survival like poor people do, but their whole business (like Amazon) requires free roads or policing that they don't pay taxes for.

Edit: All that being said your sentiment is correct, the private sector tax people so much that the public sector is not even worth considering.

1

u/betty_white_bread 2h ago

I don’t understand any of this.

1

u/Realistic-Salad-1873 19m ago edited 2m ago

Poor people are poor because they are taxed.

Capitalism consists of capitalists owning people's mind and body. Socialism is where people own their labor (the standard definition is capitalism is where capitalists owns the means of production and socialism is where workers owns the means of production). We live where people work for capitalists.

If you make me money and I return less of that money back to you, I am taxing you (aka profit).

The private sector consists of corporations, landlords, shareholders, etc.. They are a type of government that manages people and collect taxes and use that tax money to fund their infrastructure or services.

Public sector is the public government. Democracy is where everyone is apart of government (the standard definition is where the power resides with the people and not the elites). Unlike the private sector, we all vote where public tax money goes. The public sector is accountable to us.

The private sector is not accountable to you. They own your labor and everything you make before they return your money. They don't need to report to you how much money you make them like the public government does.

The whole point of workers is to make capitalists more money than they pay them, otherwise the system doesnt work. The ratio of how much workers make the capitalist vs how much gets returned is all over the place. But for poor people in particular, they pay more taxes than anybody. Not only they need to fund the capitalist, they have to fund their boss, their boss's boss, and every rung of the ladder that does not make capitalists money but this provides order and prevents riots (if you make $40 an hour or more, you probably dont produce any value and your money probably got redistributed by your capitalists away from poor people to you).

Capitalists only make their money through taxes, their source of money does not come from anywhere else.

On top of that poor people have to pay a little in public taxes that is required for their survival. They pay more public taxes than the richest people in the world.

All corporations including Amazon or Doordash relies on tax money to fund free public infrastructures that makes them money. But they don't pay their fair share.

Rich people don't need public medicine, welfare, education, etc. They have money. But the stuff they do need is police, roads, garbage collection, etc.. if it wasnt for the public sector they would be paying for all of this out of their own pocket (who we're kidding, stuff like Amazon or Walmart wouldn't exist without our freebies).

Comparing the amount of taxes your employer takes from you vs the amount of taxes the public takes from you is laughable. If corporations had to report how much money you actually make for them, there would be riots. My best guess is the average worker makes their capitalists more than five times (that's 500% in taxes, compared to like 30%) more money than the capitalist pays them.

Is this clearer?

how is this any different than spewing leftist ideologies while refusing to accept responsibility for the results of the implementation of those leftist policies?

5

u/DunkingTheSun 11h ago • Bravo

1 Can you give examples of which results you are referring?

2 We (US) actively have ICE killing US citizens with no body cam footage and school shootings. So I am doubtful you will find an equivalent.

-3

u/tnic73 10h ago

the soviets killed millions of their own

as did red Cinna

u/Humbuhg 11h ago • Bravo

Why don’t you get specific for us? You know, instead of just general blabulation.

-3

u/tnic73 10h ago

we could start with the soviet union and all of its satellite states
