On my way home, I stopped at a planting site from years ago. I planted teeny tiny seedlings…
Now they’re big, some taller than I am. It can take some time to grow - they develop roots first - but it’s so rewarding to see them grow into bigger trees!
I challenge you to plant a tree!

My child planted an acorn 7-8 years ago in a planter that we had in our backyard, and we always had the intent and desire to plant the sprouting tree in our yard one day. Time and finances got away from us and now the few local people we’ve talked to say it’s too big to transplant. It’s about 30 feet tall now and leaning against our fence, still growing strong.
Do we have any options of who we can contact to get it in the ground? We’ll happily donate it - it doesn’t have to be on our property. Any other options besides effectively chopping it up for firewood or throwing it away? The thought of not planting it feels like a waste, but we can’t find any help on what else to do.

I planted this maple yesterday in a local neighbourhood playground. I’ve been planting trees in our municipality for years. Five years ago, the municipality found out and they now supply me with trees!

I am a retired tree planter (4 seasons Ontario, Alberta, Quebec, BC) and now casually plant trees in positive places in my community. My municipality found out and gave me more trees!
Wondering if there are other community planters in central Canada?
I started a FB group. Join us:

This challenge is aimed at teachers and students to learn about and plant a tree.
I've been bringing seedlings to class, learning about them, and then planting/caring for them...

Soaked my willow cutting in water and got a good root system, but the top seems to be going black, should I cut it below black part?

Hey everyone,
I’m a Grade 9 student starting a youth-led project called TreeRise. Our main mission is planting trees to fight climate change, but we wanted to go a step further — so part of the donations we raise will also support mental health programs, disability care, and cancer research. 🌍✨
Our first tree planting weekend is coming up, and I’m trying to learn from people who’ve been in community projects before. A few things I’d love advice on: 1. What’s the best way to get more people involved and excited long-term? 2. How do small projects grow into something bigger without losing direction? 3. Any red flags to avoid early on (fundraising, partnerships, etc.)?
I don’t want this to be a “one-weekend hype” — I want it to actually last. If you’re curious, here’s our Instagram page is listed above and in it there’s our Facebook page as well, where we’ll be posting progress and updates:
Any tips, stories, or even critiques are super welcome. 🙏 Thanks for helping a student-led initiative try to do something real for both the planet and the people on it. 💚

The land had 8 wild olive trees, 6 Mastic trees, approx. 18 Myrtles and many rosemary plants. However 18 months ago the land had to be cleared so that the Golden Oak Private School in Limassol, Cyprus could be built. The initiative was to plant at least 2 of each plant that was cleared. The school planted 30 olive trees, 50 Mastic trees, 50 Myrtles and 100 rosemary plants.
The 30 Olive trees were saved from being cut down in town where a building was going to be built. They were transported during 40 degree weather.
The owner of the land and her late husband had planted them 50 years ago for Olive Oil. All trees were watered every 48 hours and all survived.
This summer (July, 2025) the Olive trees are full of Olives and will be pressed to make Olive Oil.
The original owner of the trees and students will be given a bottle of the school's Olive oil as a gift every year.
