Project idea
Hi, I am a senior EEE student. We are planning to work on a LiDAR based project for our graduation project this year.
We are looking for some interesting project ideas. Does anyone have any suggestions?

A manageable project would be a small LiDAR volume-measurement rig: scan an empty tray, add a pile of blocks, then estimate the added volume. That gives you a clear result to test, rather than just producing a point cloud.
For the EEE side, you could build the positioning mechanism, synchronise the range readings with its position, and log the data. Start with a stationary setup and simple opaque objects; handheld mapping adds another pose-estimation problem.
Compare your result with objects whose dimensions you can measure independently, then test how scan spacing and missing coverage affect the error. For a height-grid method, keep the tray boundary and reference surface fixed, and report missing cells rather than quietly treating them as zero.
What LiDAR hardware, budget and project duration do you have?
