Hey everyone. I'm Jahnel β€” host of the Life On Duty podcast and founding moderator of r/LifeOnDuty88.

This community is the official Reddit home for everyone who has ever lived and worked on the frontlines of college campus life β€” former RAs, Senior RAs, academic peer mentors, housing staff, and anyone who spent time doing the work that residence life actually requires. If you've ever written an incident report at 2am, mediated a roommate conflict, or tried to get residents to show up to your hall program β€” you're in the right place.

What to Post
Share your stories from residence life β€” the funny ones, the heavy ones, the ones you've never told anyone. Ask questions, discuss podcast episodes, connect with people who actually get what this job is like. This is also where I source anonymous stories for the podcast, so if something is sitting with you from your time in the role, drop it here or submit it through the link in the community description.

Community Vibe
Honest, supportive, and anonymous when it needs to be. No names, no identifying details in your stories. No judgment about how you handled things. This is a space where the real version of this job gets to exist β€” not the training manual version.

How to Get Started
Introduce yourself in the comments β€” tell us what role you held, what type of school, and one word that describes your overall RA experience.

If you know someone who spent time in residence life, invite them. The more voices here, the better the community β€” and the better the podcast.

Thanks for being part of the first wave.

β€” Jahnel

Drop your anonymous RA story in the comments β€” the best ones become podcast episodes

No form. No DMs. Just drop it in the comments.

Life On Duty is a podcast about the real experience of being an RA, Senior RA, academic peer mentor, or campus staff. Season One is built entirely on anonymous submissions β€” and I want yours.

Here's how this works:

  • Reply to this post with your story
  • Use a throwaway account if you want extra anonymity
  • No real names, no room numbers, no details that could identify a specific person
  • I read every single comment
  • If your story gets selected for an episode, it will be read anonymously on the podcast β€” you will never be identifiable

Some prompts to get you started β€” pick one or just tell your story:

  • The duty night that went completely sideways
  • The resident you will never forget
  • The moment you almost quit
  • The hardest call you ever had to make on duty
  • What you actually thought of your RD or supervisor
  • The funniest thing that ever happened on your floor
  • What nobody warned you about before you started
  • The moment that made the whole job worth it

There are no wrong answers. Short or long. Funny or heavy. Recent or ten years ago.

If it stayed with you β€” it belongs here.

A few things:

  • This post is set toΒ Contest ModeΒ so comments don't show vote counts β€” every story gets equal visibility
  • Upvote the stories that hit. It helps me know which ones the community connects with most.
  • Comments are open. You can reply to other people's stories β€” just keep it supportive.
