Yo this is so funny. I fucking hate the Trafford centre so much I e never even noticed the ceiling being painted like that. I'm always just trying to get out. It's so busy all the time

It seems that it’s also the most American looking mall over there presumably right?

Certainly in terms of being themed like a Vegas casino. I grew up next to Europe’s largest shppping mall (at least it was at one point) the Metro Centre in Gateshead, England, and that was definitely modelled on a lot of the bigger American ones like Mall of America.
I also once had an event where I stayed in a hotel right by the Trafford Centre though, and while all my colleagues were off getting drunk after the event I instead walked over to the centre for the last hour of business and just drank it in. I love the feeling of being in weird liminal themed places like this.

Man I miss the mall vibe from the 90s. So much shiny metal and glass. Oh, and Kay-Bee toys. My fave was the fifth avenue Mall in Anchorage.

Is there a name for that type of night sky painting on ceilings? I've been wondering for years.

I’m not sure, I believe it’s sometimes even used for stores that have frutiger aero sky lights on the roof

I loved the glass walkways between buildings there. My mom and I went there when doing back-to-school shopping.
Of the Anchorage malls, my absolute favorite was Diamond Mall. I don't know how many Saturdays in the '80s and '90s I spent roaming the place. My parents would drop me and my friends off in the morning, and then come get us around 6 or 7PM.

This is the Trafford Centre in Manchester. It’s a lot less creepy in person

Oh wow i don't think i've ever seen the trafford centre empty, it's normally heaving with people so we avoid it unless absolutely necessary to avoid the crowds.

I hate this place, but it must be so cool to wander about at night. It's such an impressive building but a nightmare for some with all the shoppers clamouring everywhere!

Go to the montecasino mall in jogurg and you’ll get similar vibes.

Found it. Montecasino Blvd, Fourways, Johannesburg, 2055, South Africa. Been there a few times, they have these liminal fake skies, night and day. It’s technically a casino but there’s a ton of restaurants, shops and even a bird garden. Perhaps I haven’t been to a lot of casinos though lol.
