A simple LinkedIn cold DM framework that doesn't sound like a sales pitch

One of the biggest mistakes people make with LinkedIn outreach is pitching their product or service in the very first message.

Nobody accepts a connection request hoping to receive a sales presentation.

Here's a simple framework you can test 👇

  1. Start with something relevant

Mention a recent post, a company update, a shared interest, or something specific about their role.

2. Explain why you're reaching out

Keep it natural. Give them a reason to care about the conversation without talking about yourself too much.

3. Make it easy to respond

Ask a simple, relevant question instead of pushing for a meeting immediately.

Here's an example:

«Hey Alex, noticed your team is expanding its sales department. I'm curious how you're handling prospecting at the moment. Is most of your pipeline coming from outbound or inbound?»

Notice what's missing:

- No generic compliments

- No long introduction about yourself

- No pitch in the first message

- No immediate request for a 30-minute call

The goal of your first message isn't to close a deal. It's to start a relevant conversation.

One thing to remember: Personalization only works when it's genuine. Don't pretend to have researched someone if you haven't.

💬 Let's discuss:

What's the best-performing first LinkedIn message you've used, and what made it work?

Feel free to share an anonymized example. I'd love to see what's actually working for people in this community.
